They met in secret, these three, at an undisclosed station, where they sat and discussed starships and politics, and how to save the cluster from the State.
This is a new entry in our chronicle series, published on Monday every other week. It ties quite tightly in with current events, and was written by the talented CCP Greyscale.

But they already do!
Didn't you read the words about the militia?
Currently the gallente militia is all beaten back only winning fleet fights but not capturing systems. All the factional warfare systems for the gallente are lost.
What now if it stays this way? Or what if the gallente militia decides to conquer the systems and fight for space instead for winning fleet battles?
This is all linked together, and the results of the factional warfare shifts and influences the stories!
This is really good reading :-)

Edited by: Tony Sharp on 07/09/2009 11:51:38 This is clearly set in the near past.
So we have someone from Ishukone (who won the auction for Intaki and Intaki only), someone from the Federation (goverment? Navy? Roden?) and someone from a little shady entity which is most likely Guristas (references to the rabbit) but could also be the Mordu Legion (ties to the Intaki).
Interesting. |

Mhm, maybe someone from CreoDron, seeing how the chronicle mentions Old Man. Ceul Darieux was Intaki if I'm not mistaken.

I think I have a good idea as to the identity of the three men who were in the room.
If the first man to enter is who I think he is... this is VERY exciting for those of us who are Gurista loyalists.

Awesome with just the right amount of winsauce.

Just pointing this out, as some posters seem to have missed that fact.
It was an excellent story though. I may even go so far as to say it's the best chronicle to be published in a while, mainly because it actually affects things in a way that we can react to. -----

You mean the host? Not so sure it is who you think it is at all. He might play cards with The Rabbit but that doesn't make him Fatal.
The first guest is obviously an Ishukone man and probably Mens Reppola. The 'Old Man' this person refers to will be Gariushi. (The person who has to sell the deal to his people refers to an 'Old Man' and from context that makes it the Ishukone man.)
The second guest is the Federation man and it's much less clear to me who it is. I'm inclined to think it is a politician rather than a businessman because he hasn't considered a key problem for the Ishukone man: shareholders. It is someone with an 'official budget'. That again suggests a politician rather than a businessman. Certain other things strongly suggest he is an Intaki rather than an ethnic Gallente. ("You'd prefer that your new landlord is someone who's not going to throw you down the stairs for fun." - strikes me as something that would said to an Intaki but not a Gallente in the context.) It might be Foiritan but there are counter-arguments to that. I can't really see it being Blaque as he's ethnic Gallente and not a big fan of the Intaki from his past record. Bit of a puzzle really and could simply be an as yet unknown. (I considered Eman Autrech but I believe he's still SCC Head and therefore a CONCORD man which would not quite fit.)
The host, though, as some have already said, is pretty clear: it's Muriya Mordu. It's the only thing that makes sense given the discussion. In particular the security contracting stuff and the remark from the Ishukone man 'Hah! You are a Caldari after all.' strongly suggest it is Mordu. The most famous Caldari to have arguably become closer to another ethnicity than his own is Mordu with his well-known regard for the Intaki. That latter point also more than explains his interest and his having 'a foot in both camps'.
After all that, I think I'd better say bravo Greyscale. This is an excellent chron.

Could be and this ties very well to the DUST 514 naming theory: it is the name of the new cloning project/technology developed/researched jointly(?) with Creodron in the new Ishukune Station in Intaki 5-14 (station can be seen in dust video/battle in intaki). DUST is some kind of abreviation like Deployable Ultra Shock Troopers or something.
Given both companies' expertise in genetics/cloning the above I think is plausible.

I love the chronicles and short stories and have read every single of them. Can't remember all the stuff I've read in there though.
But one things bothers me:
"And monsters if they get out of control. It's good to finally meet you."
gnaahh, you are overusing this already. I know that you are striving to highlight the very special nature of us capsuleers in new eden, but I don't wanna read this over and over again, what mass murders we are and how brutal.. (yeah, I know that it's true..).
Okay, now back to finish reading this chronicle. ^^

Love the chronicle! It shows the EVE universe operating in a way that I would expect it would.
I like how the chronicle invites you to guess the actors. Here's my take on it: The host has dealings with the Rabbit and the Guristas. I'm not convinced Muriya Mordu would play cards with the Rabbit, rather I think it would be Fatal, AKA Jirai Laitanen. The first guest is a company man, and the one company suitable for this would be Ishukone. In financial problems right now, and with the referenced problems with the current administration, and also with a reputation for handling the populace nicely. The 'Old Man' reference is strange because it is in the present tense and Gariushi is dead. But if it is Mens Reppola, he could be referencing/probing the Gallente benefactor? Which brings us to the second guest, who is a politician from the Federation, which basically means most high-level functionaries in the Federation. He's a bit if a mystery man, because Foiritan, Blaque, nor Roden seem to fit. The Old Man reference could mean he represents CreoDrone indirectly but it is not Darieux (who is Intaki) himself. Perhaps Ashtucer Alonaert, CFO from CreoDron? I don't think Old Man references Gariushi, as we already have an Old Man in EVE, and that's Darieux ... Or the reference could just be any CEO of a company?
Anyway, good chronicle, I liked it a lot ... -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |

As for the three men, Mordu, the host, Reppola, the first guest, and... ...someone from the Syndicate perhaps, as the second guest. Makes more sense to me than a Federation politician.

I think it's bull.
That money could've been spent to mobilize a whole navy fleet and drive the Caldari out of there and out of the whole region once and for all.
Oh wait, the Gallente fleet consists almost exclusively of ships with a 5km blaster range and can be killed by a single Caracal. My bad.
And one more thing, this really isn't going to motivate Gallente people into participating in FW, if there are no consequences to the systems being occupied and some mystery men covering their shortcomings. When will we see some worlds burn? ---

A Syndicate man having an official budget to fly around in a Proteus strategic cruiser? The Syndicate having enough Isk to buy the Intaki in Heth's auction AND pay for 10 years of protection? Seems rather unlikely to me. However much I like to hear more about the Syndicate, only a Federation man with a big corporation putting up the cash can pull this one off.
Mordu winning a Rattlesnake of The Rabbit (in some game no doubt)? Seems rather unlikely to me. He seems too much establishment, and watched too closely by the State to be a regular game partner for the likes of The Rabbit. This could be the Syndicate, and I would like it to be, but Fatal seems more likely, especially with the ties to Ishukone.
Still I like the reference from Reppola (probably?) to the Empire loans, and how it ties in with the Transcranial Microcontrollers news item. -- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? |

I was thinking the same thing. The idea that the host is Mordu is also supported by the concern for the state that Reppola seemed to assume the host would have when talking about Heth, although the host could also be someone from the Syndicate due to their very close ties to Intaki. I assume that the Gallente is an elected official based on the sentence
Quote:
My problem is not an electorate, it's shareholders, and we communicate with them using numbers, not words.
which implies the Gallente has an electorate to answer to.

I am fairly certain that Mens Reppola was referring to Otro Gariushi when he said
Quote: It is good to be able to make business and ethics coincide. The Old Man would be happy with this.
I think it highly unlikely that the host is from the guristas because openly contracting for security from the guristas would be "professional suicide" for Reppola based on the secrecy that Caldari executives have had to excercise when dealing with them in prime fiction.
Overall a very good chron even if I am still a little uncertain who said some of the lines after reading it 3 times.
