So I've seen a number of threads and discussions regarding removing local chat, or some variety of that, but I have not seen any official response on this.
Has CCP made a comment at all about removing local chat from systems? Or perhaps making it where you don't show up until you comment. (Like Alliance chat or similar.)
Sorry if this is the wrong thread to be asking.

if they removed the subspace beacons that report you in the local area, then they should also remove the subspace beacons that transmit to concord when you kill a rat - so no bounties or security increase imo lol

Err... I haven't been there yet, but I heard wormhole space doesn't have a local. Maybe that's their response.

Well surely this is the correct thread to ask, since you made it for the purpose of asking the question.
There was hope about some changes from an question/answer session with zulupark some time ago. If I recal correctly he said they had some ideas they wanted to try, but nothing happened. They also said that it would be replaced by some other intelligence gathering tool when it happens and in empire local might remain unchanged. Basicly all we know is, that there is some interest from CCP to modify the system.
EDIT: Just some delay would be nice and bounties are payed after a delay anyway so it would fit perfectly.

I dont think the game needs to make high sec missioning even more attractive than it is.

Removing local from "wildspace" was just an experiment to see how things can work.
They won't be removing local in 0.0 until they get a chance to improve other ways to gather intel with in-game tools. Improved scanner, improved probing, something entirely new, they don't know yet for sure, and won't know for a while because they have other priorities right now.
Will local in 0.0 be removed eventually ? YES. But it won't really matter all that much by then. When will that be ? Your guess is as good as mine, and not much worse than CCP's.

Broken or not its an intel tool. scanner implimentation is a joke. 2 second delay that never ends. auto updates? my arse it does.

It's extraordinarily screwed up that a chat channel is the primary intelligence tool for determining who is in a particular system to begin with however. That something must be done to fix this goes nearly without saying. I mean you don't even have such a crutch to rely on for pvp in WoW for example. It also would make things like cloakers camping your sovereign systems while being AFK far less effectively to alliance morale etc - another exploit of this currently broken game mechanic.

dunno if any of you 'remove local' numbnutts have a clue about the affect this will have in systems with lots of pos's, but I can tell you it will kill the game for any roaming gang.

SCOUT:"392 shuttles were just in pos's, 4 in safe spots, 4 I couldn't find. Out of the ravens, I think they are all empty. Are you sure there is ANYONE in this system except me?"
FC:"It said 5 people were in there in the last 30mins, but now it says 1, try the next system?"

Explaining that all those things only hilite some of the necessary and trivial improvements to the new scanner that would replace Local is an exercise in futility since you receive that explanation in almost every thread on this subject that you troll with your useless ****. ...

Perhaps an indication on the scanner as to whether the signal was distorted by having to penetrate a POS force field so you could discern which ships are outside of a POS would help mitigate this?

Perhaps the solution to that is not showing un-maned spacecrafts on scan?

And i agree with an above statement. if you remove 0.0 local then you are going to see a lot of people move out of 0.0 ratting to do high sec missions.
Also if you want local removed, turn blink off, minimize local and never ever look at it. it works just the same.

You don't need to "Remove" local as you just need to somehow keep that from being a tool for intel.
As stated above, just make it where you don't show up in chat until you speak.
That way you have to find ships the real way.
