After spending alot of time in wormhole space (which btw you might want to visit OP) lately I have to admit there are benefits but it still changes the entire game too much to just be "removed" and people need to understand that.
People keep saying remove it remove it, improve the scanner, but I've yet to see a realistic alternative...
spamming the scan button every 2 seconds gets old, but it gives a chance to be ganked when you're not paying attention and it gives you a chance to get away if you are. What system could it be changed to and still keep balance? if the scanner was constantly active you couldnt sneak up on anyone, improving it to show if ships are active or not still dosent take away the need to click scan every 2 seconds....
If people insist on making these dam remove local whines they need to include SOME kind of alternative or just stfu -----------------

Edited by: cpu939 on 09/09/2009 04:22:11 anyone notice that ccp had to add a nerf to the scanner!! http://www.eve-search.com/thread/1155042/page/1
remember bm they made lag if you copied them in system thats why you can only do 5 at a time, i'm sure if 500 people or more hit scan it will make lag
once it is made so it doesn't make lag then sure look at game changes but i prefer a game where i can play at speed and not at 1 frame every 3 days (joking on the 3 days)
just my idea.
also here is a question do you think you'l get more kills in fleets in 0.0 i see very few with combat probes due to the module needing cpu next you'll whine for that to have less cpu.

if they removed the subspace beacons that report you in the local area, then they should also remove the subspace beacons that transmit to concord when you kill a rat - so no bounties or security increase imo lol
cant have it all

Agreed. Local should be removed and rat bounty replaced with tags.
Dood, if the sec increase was attached to the tags as well... LOL. -- Bellum Eternus Inveniam viam aut faciam.

I know this is not the perfect idea, but check this link out, maybe a step in the right direction?

Yeah that was my original suggestion, along with being able to use them to repair faction status instead of getting a bounty. (and loot as well, as long as I'm wishing, replacing it with meta 1-4 BPCs) Combine that with removing rat bounty altogether from missions and greatly increasing the LP reward to compensate, so that all mission rewards (LP, salvage, meta BPCs) are now competitive and counter-inflationary and all that's left to do is put the 'I' into the NPC AI.

This a thousand times over. It'd be funny to see pirates having to grind sec standing in their own cesspool that lo sec is. That would bring life back to lo sec belts, just not in the way pirates expected . Poetic justice.

I foresee pirates ganking a ratter, stealing his or her collected tags, and ending up gaining sec status for it. Irony, for fun and profit!

I dont think the game needs to make high sec missioning even more attractive than it is.
There is pvp is high sec too. And local chat is used to see war targets in system. |

Except the lo sec "ratter" in this case is a pirate trying to grind sec status. The poetic justice effect still holds quite lovely . If 00 local is removed and pirates are forced to rat in lo sec for sec status grinding then I'm all for it .

I think having the local channel there but with a bit taken from alliance. Have people not show in the channel until they speak but do show how many at the top of the local channel.
Local (5) Users
x: euhuioh x y: fdeded y
Much like what happened to Revelations patch (I think) where local vanished for an hour so. |

Has CCP made a comment at all about removing local chat from systems? Or perhaps making it where you don't show up until you comment. (Like Alliance chat or similar.)
Sorry if this is the wrong thread to be asking.
The only place local is affected is in wormhole space. From CCP Abathur's blog on wormholes: "Don't bother glancing at your æLocal' chat channel; out here in the darkness, the only warning you will get is what your eyes or your scanners give you."

Thanks for your input Fallout!
The issue here are some specific statements made by CCP Zulupark less then a year ago regarding switching the 0.0 Local into delayed mode and adding some new intel gathering functionality that fixes several issues of the current ship scanner (like having to spam button press and no ability to filter out empty ships) and allows the gathering of information that is currently provided by Local (albeit, without the magic qualities of the current Local).
Many are anxiously awaiting for CCP to go through on their word and get this implemented, or, at the very least, start some serious SISI testing on possible implementation strategies. ...

That doesn't answer the question. The OP wanted to know about future plans to change the local mechanic, not clarification on the existing system.

I think instead of changing local they should change the solar system map to show things like explosions/jumps/cyno's
Basically it would probably look like sonar and if you were looking at the map you could see a small explosion blip when "something" blew up which would fade in a few seconds, same thing for warp points and such. While it wouldn't give you the exact location of anything you could make observations as to what was going on in the system fairly easily.
This would also cut down on scanning time needed to find whatever since you would already have an idea of what sector of the map they were in by watching say explosive signatures created by a missioner or multiple warp signatures if someone was patrolling the area.
