Keep the flames out of the thread please.
First I like to say day 2 has been a great improvement on day 1. A few things which I think may help:
1 One Announcer do the play by play while the other give the color commentary 2 First minutes usually fairly fast pace, less color commentary in the beginning.
3 For the play be play, spend more time on painting the broader picture rather then the details. Example: "Team A's Hurricane are engaging Team B's Apoc at close range" is a better statements then "Team B's Apoc is at 50% Armor"
4 Avoid asking what the other commentator think, this should be planned out before hand. Example: Play by play: Looks like team A have a tackle on the Scimatar (we know its team B so no need to state that) Color: This could be bad, the Scimatar will go down fast without its speed tank.
5 I like that the broadcast is starting early which give the commentator a chance to run the the ship list on both side, good time to discuss weakness each team may have against the other and alot of player likes to hear their names so you may want to add name to key ships if you have time. During the match, I would avoid trying to drop name unless its slow or if the player is doing something special (Hero tank for example)
Anyway my 50 cents worth.

Learn everything you can about each team before you even begin recording, especially names. Some comments on YouTube pointed out the commentators' problems pronouncing the name of Romanian Legion, making it sound like a sort of pasta dish ù these should be figured out earlier, and not on the spot.
And yeah, I agree with point 3, we can see who's going down, and who's popping, based on the ship readouts. More time should be spent detailing the actual engagements, and not just on statistics. We the audience can see that Drake is at 50% shields and dropping fast, but we can't always determine why, or who's shooting at it. Commentary should give more information than is already available.

constructive is stuff is great, i appreciate that.
you both need to keep in mind though that we are not just catering to a youtube audience. we know you guys can see ship hp % and would love to be able to just give overall picture surrounding it, however, there are 3-4k listeners tuning in live who cannot see anything. a lot of what we are doing is trying to keep them as up to speed as absolutely possible and hopefully communicate some urgency and excitement.
your comments about research preceding matches is something i agree with completely. no matter how much i try and keep track of setups and strategy and names and whatever i always feel totally under-prepared. no doubt a lot of the things we missed week 1 will be better week 2, but you gotta remember we arent getting paid here. i wish i could devote hours and hours of prep to this, but its already enough time commitment to seriously infringe on our usual lifestyles. i will do my best though to be informed.
thanks again. hope you enjoy coming weekends of action o/

on other thing to keep in mind is that teams can bring any member of their alliance so while we can prep to talk a little about the alliances we cannot possible prep for the potential 10,000 members who could be fielded.

To be honest don't avoid pilot names.
It improves comments and gives you a little exclusivity. Its not That Tengu its person flying it.
So like add people names to commentaries whenever possible.

Tbh, i think the commentators could take a thing or two from KIAEddz. I wasn't a huge fan of his commentary until i realised that without his input, there's a lack of interest or excitement from the commentary team.
Him and Verone actually sounded like they were on the edge of their seats in certain matches, but i get the impression the current panel aren't as bothered about the matches. It seems like each match is run-of-the-mill in this tournament judging by the commentary - there's no mention of past performance, there's no colorful comments or varied talking in the more slow matches.
This year it's mostly: "and the Rook is going down, it's in half armour, it's in structure now, it's in 50% structure, he's about to go down, and he's down. And the enemy drake is also down."
Anyway, i'm not bashing the commentators, i just know they can do better. My advice would be to put yourself in the shoes of the teams, assume this fight is actually quite important and if a key ship is going down and hanging on, mention it, get excited, get involved.
One match that would outline what i'm trying to say is AT6 G00DFELLAS vs. Dead Terrorists

My 2 cents Much better commentary than last week. The poor chap who was stuck commentating by himself, kept it up till the rest got their audio sorted, whilst still getting it right. WD to him. The descriptions were clear and fairly concise for the most part. The only let down imo was the nasaly Yank, (Dont know his name), who says "errr" and "errrm" all the time. again this week he flew his ship out of locking range and had to hand it over to his fellow commentators. Once this week, and a couple times last week as I recall. Star of the show was CCP Atropos who was typing descriptions just as fast as the others could describe it. and still found time to be funny with it. Top marks to him.

Yea, there is no doubt that this stuff takes some training, and you can definately feel the commentators feeling more at ease with the format. Good show today, considering just how much technical issues there were.

Nah I wouldn't blame it on Veto. Verone never had problems leaving his ingame hatreds at the door. This Ryas guy just seems to have some issues. It's kind of ironic he's in a roleplay corp but can't turn it off, and he's not a bad commentator otherwise. _

This ... less squeeky voiced teenages who make think ***** jokes are fun and don't know setups and mods.
PS: I wouldn't call Ryas's inability to keep personal opinions from doing his job something new - Verone had the same problem during AT6. How about a ban on RP-ers or chavs ? --- I smack just for myself.

I didn't really appreciate being called *****Jet. I dunno whether it was because he couldn't read the name properly or that he just likes to get his digs in on MM (having already said before that he dislikes us being in the tournament). Also, the whole "losing drones is wasting isk" thing was just insane.

it was obviously on purpose, the commentators are pretty rude this year - it's a lot cuter when it's stavros doing it tbh, at least he has style -_-

I'd have to check my logs, but a couple of ransom / sellout offers did appear. Mostly it was GFs and claw countdowns.
We did have a bit of a natter with some of the teams while Soundwave was busy bathing in peanuts.

Maybe the commentators need a list of pilots and ships from the teams BEFORE the game starts? In almost every other competition I can think of, the commentators receive the necessary information before the match starts. It is a courtesy to the commentator. There is no reason that I can think of why a team could not do this. If they don't they shouldn't complain. It should not be the job of the commentator to "figure out" who is flying what. Things happen too fast in this game, so, if the teams would like their pilot names noted, they should provide a list of members and what ship they are flying.
---------------------- It is my concerted opinion that 5 minutes is too long of a lockout for forum posts. Come on!

For the qualifiers there is no way the commentators can keep up with the pilots from 64 teams some of who only get sorted 30 mins before the match.
With up to 10 pilots per team, the fact that it doesn't have to be the same people each match that would be up to 1280 pilots to check up on for the qualification stages. This is also not helped when you end up commentating on matches you weren't originally scheduled to and thus have less prep time
Now we have 32 alliances we can spend more time on previous setups, checking up on them in game and generally prepping interesting facts etc.
When we get down to the final 16 we can look more at the actual pilots.
This is of course open to change depending on what else we have to do in Iceland

Wasn't knocking on the commentators. I was thinking the responsibility for the team roster should be on the team, not the commentators. No other sport requires the commentators to "glean" the information from the players on the field. Yes, it would require planning and responsibility on the part of the team, but hey, maybe that is what it should be?
