Hi there.. Well, this is no noob post "please tell me exactly how to outfit the xxxx for maximum xxxxxx"
I'm just interrested in peoples views on how to use the Wolf, as i seem to have a hard time deciding on the right setups for NPC and PVP.
I have tried a few setups with everything from 200mm to 280, with or without missilelauncher, mwd or burner, defenders or smartbomb...
My philosophy has been to use the best equipment possible for every setup i have tried (tech II).
All input appreciated.

wolf is ok - but most assualts are gimped by large missiles atm as they go so slow. My ethos has always been tank em as much as poss.
4*280mm II, 1*arbalest standard launcher 1*small sb II, 1*shield hardner 1*tracking enhancer II, 1*gyro II, 1*cpu, 1*cpr
is one of my setups

you might be able to replace that small sb II with a small SB C5-L which AFAIK gives the same shield/sec. That would reduce the CPU usage on your wolf and you might be able to throw out that cpu for something else. ................. |

As I am using it today (playing a bit with lvl 2 missions)
High: 4x named 200mm autocannon (soon to be replaced with Tech II) Named rocketlauncer with defenders (feels kind of redundant as I go VERY close..)
Med: MWD II Targeting comp II
Low: 2x Gyrostab II Small armour rep II Co-Processor II
I have a bit of cpu to spare and quite alot of powercore left with this setup. Some of it will be used up when i upgrade to the tech II guns.
Even with standard 200mm I it did not take me many seconds to kill a 40k and a 12.5k Sansha.

Youd better hope it wouldnt take long to kill 40k NPCs, I can take out 110k rats in a kestrel, rifter, breacher, and a punisher. If NPCing you would hope that you could take out 500k NPC BS with that wolf of yours
Because the wolf doesnt go that fast, and because of its bonuses, I would recommend you ditch the 200mms and switch them for 250mm IIs or 280mm IIs. Much much better range, and its what the wolf was made for :D ................. |

So you recomend 280 tII or 250 tII? Dont you use any hardners? It has only good res to EM and ok therm res.

Edited by: TekRa on 21/10/2004 13:03:11 the set up on my wolf goes somethinglike: 4*280mm Arty 1*Rocket Launcher(defenders) // 1*small CL-5 SB 1*Optical Tracking Computer // 1*pneumatic Stabilization Damage mod 1*asimuth(sp?) descaloping(sp?) tracking enhancer 2*some other modules, will edit when I remember :) //
I've been using this for level 3 missions, and it performs quite well. missiles are the biggest problem tho, and you have to fire the defenders at the right time else they all go for one thing and screw up :/
so far I pretty much use it like I would a rupture, keep to a certain distance rather than orbit, fire alot and pray. also went for shield 'tanking' (if it can be called that) because the shild has better resists than the armour, and without a MWD/AB I've got alot of spare cap to keep the booster running.
edit: well, that was actually an older set up I had, I changed it and totally forgot :) anyway, here what I'm usig now, and it's much better... 4*280's // 1*rocket launcher 1*small CL-5 // 1* small Azeotropic ward Salubrity I (shield extender) 1*MAPC // 1*CPU // 1*Partial hull conversion overdrive // 1*Pneumatic Stabilization Actuator I.

Edited by: Jaredh Elkin on 21/10/2004 13:08:03 I'm flying a Wolf with the following configuration:
Hi: 4 280mm Artillery Cannon II 1 Named Rocket Launcher
Med: 1 Cold gas arcjet 1 Small Shield Booster II
Low: 1 Aux reactor 1 tracking enhancer Something to make all this fit
I can't remember the low slots exactly, but there's at least the reactor and the tracking enhancer, and maybe a cap relay.
This is obviously shield boosting. The only level 3 mission rats which have given me trouble have been the elite mercs, as they missile spam quite much. I haven't taken it against the scrambling intys, though.
Heavy missiles from Angels are not usually a problem - Thunderbolts do 37.5 damage to shields. I hit the shield boost as the shields go below half, and cap is enough to run it a while.
I start with jump to 30, orbit the biggest one and lock and kill the small ones. Usually the frigates die before I reach orbit. The launcher fits defenders or rockets. Orbit at 10-15 km seems to prevent most cruiser ships from hitting well at the 440 m/s this baby can do, and frigates die quite fast to the guns.

Cruz.
The 40K is the biggest i found so far... :) ..only had the ship for 2 days..
As i said i use this setup to play around with lvl 2 missions and mainly wanted to move around fast, hence the MWD. And with a MWD on I couldnt get the heavier guns on. But as you said, for a more pvp oriented setup i think the 280mm howizers would probably be better. 25, 30km with good damage shouldnt be hard to achieve.
The only problem with the short range setup is to handle multiple enemys. 5-6 8-10k frigates can be a *****, especially if they use missiles... One or two larger NPC targets should be no problem at all, especially if they are using lasers, witch the Wolf was built to counter.

Maybe PIE or AMAX will release my setup when they take down my beloved Wolf.
One of the setups above had a tracking computer - I am really suprised you need that with all the existing tracking bonuses.
