Hello,
As I understand it, the storyline (SL) agent that you receive for SL missions is the closest SL agent to your regular agent, as long as said SL agent is in the same faction as your basic agent. Is this correct?
I was wondering if there are certain times when there are two possible SL agent for one basic agent. For example, I am (hypothetically) running missions for the Brutor Tribe (Minmatar). There are two Minmatar SL agents exactly one jump away from my basic Brutor agent (the two SL agents are either in the same system or both in two separate systems). Does this kind of setup exist in EVE? Or are SL agents sprinkled about so that this kind of conflictual configuration doesn't happen?
If it does happen, then which agent takes precedence? Which SL agent out of the two is selected for that basic Brutor agent?
Also, and this is a bit off topic: Is it true that if you have a basic agent in high sec and trigger a SL mission, that the resulting SL agent will also be in high sec, even though there might be a closer SL agent in lo sec?
Thanks, -- Sable

This is what i have found out yes. Running missions for Fed intel in Auvergne gave me the SL agent in Bale wich was for advanced studies something.. though still the same faction. (it's 1 jump apart)

I can't confirm or deny any of these other questions as i haven't had these situations yet. Though getting SL agents on same jump distance away will happen. But how the one is chosen and the other not is a mystery to me :) maybe every SL agent has their own set of adjecent systems they will be activated for. ------- Always a deeply religious people, religion remains of great importance to every Amarrian, a fervour which at various times has been responsible both for great good and great evil. |

I seem to remember at least one station in hisec with two storyline agents occupying the same station.
The general rule is that the storyline agent closest to where you are when you hand in the mission will be triggered. If that agent is already waiting on you to accept or complete a storyline offer, the next furthest one will be triggered, and so forth.

I've run missions in a Caldari system where the nearest storyline agents appear to be in Haatomo - 3 jumps away. There are SL agents there for both Caldari Navy and Propel Dynamics. I have received storyline missions for both corps though Propel Dynamics appeared to be more frequent - that may just be random chance.
So to answer some of your other questions from my experience: 1) Yes - there are systems with multiple storyline agents. 2) Assignment of the storyline agents in these systems would appear to be random - based on my experience thought there may have been some other factor affecting which SL agent was assigned.

Hmm... that's what I was afraid of. What corp do you run for? Maybe the agent is chosen based on your missions corps standings with the SL agents corp? Higher standings means they get picked more often...?
Love to know about the hi sec/lo sec thing also. =)

Not true. It's always the storyline agent closest to the agent you accepted the last mission from, prior to storyline.
I did a bunch of courier missions for a agent that sent me all over the region, and I always got the same SL agent giving me missions. Namely, the one in the same system as the courier agent.
I have noticed, however, that if there is an equal distance between two storyline agents from the agent you accepted the last mission from, prior to storyline, and they're both in the same constellation, then there's a chance you may get a different storyline agent.
Though it's very likely that a storyline agent is simply assigned to a set of agents, and you will always be sent to him regardless of distances, location or whatever. |

Edited by: Sable Blitzmann on 17/09/2009 23:43:20 Hmm, I've just come across this problem myself.
I used to mission in Lustrevik for the Republic Security Service. The SL agent that I was always assigned to was Talt Belk, one jump away in Pator. She was in the same corp that I am in.
I then moved to a level 3 agent in Eytur (one jump from Lustrevik, and also one jump from Pator). I figured I'd get the same SL agent as I did in Lustrevik; however, I just received a SL mail from Aekelm Ontbald, a Six Kin Development SL agent in Vullat -- one jump away from Eystur.
So, I'm currently one jump away from two SL agents, one in Pator and another in Vullat. I would have thought the the RSS SL agent (one in Pator) would have contacted me since I have high standing from them, but I guess not.
I would really like a Dev's input as to how these mechanics work. I'm trying to devlop an app that uses this information. =)
EDIT: This is a bit weird. Eystur -- the system that I'm running missions from and that is sandwiched in between to SL agents, is in the Sveipar constellation. However, Vullat, the system that I just received a SL mission from, is in the Erada constellation, where as Pator -- the other system with the SL agent -- is in the SAME constellation as my regular agents system (Sveipar)
So, constellation seems to have no effect on SL agent assignment.

Nonni has storyline agents for both Caldari Navy and Propel Dynamics. When I used to grind Lai Dai standings near there, I sometimes I would get the storyline from one, sometimes the other. It was completely random as far as I could tell.
I can also confirm that it is proximity to the agent that gave mission #16 that counts, not where you happen to be when you turn in mission #16.
Another thing that has not been mentioned yet, if you leave the storyline mission "offered" but do not complete it, and instead run 16 more regular missions, you will get a storyline from the next closest storyline agent for that faction.

Edited by: Arec Bardwin on 18/09/2009 01:01:29 Pro tip to get storylines from the agent you want:
If you get a storyline with an unwanted agent, just leave the mission open (don't accept or decline).
Do 16 more missions and you will get the next storyline mission with another agent (the storyline agent next closest to your regular agent), because each storyline agent can only offer one mission at a time.
You can reapeat this as needed to get the storylines with the agent you want. This can be useful when power blitzing standings for a specific corp.

I think I can confirm this to be true. It certainly answers a question I posted here some time ago.
I had an agent in one of those highsec areas you can only access by going through lowsec (2 jumps in this case). There was an SL agent for the same corp in one of these lowsec systems.
The first time I got the SL mail I got sent 5 jumps away, through lowsec and past the SL agent I was expecting, and back into highsec.

Thanks for all the info guys...
Someone mentioned to me that SL agent assignment may be based on the warp distance top those agents if there's two SL agents involved. For example if I have an agent that has 2 SL agents one jump away in different systems, then the game calculates which one you get by comparing the warp distance from your agents station to the gate going to the system with the SL agent in it.
Hope that made sense. Anyone wanna comment?
