I've been looking for an all-in-one explorer platform for a while now. Having to keep 2 ships within reach is getting anonying but I also enjoy the benefits of exploring in 0.0 space without the logistical nightmare.
And I finally discovered why strategic cruisers are so popular for exploring, especially in my case, the Legion.
Tell me what you think, the downside is the DPS is lackluster but the tank should hold on almost any plex I plan on doing. I plan on switching in faction mods if I have good luck dodging gate camps for a while.
The Interdiction Nullifier and Covert Reconfiguration is really only for dodging bubbles that I might accidently find myself in. The chance of still being locked down by an insta-locking Inti is there but greatly reduced. And I guess the agility doesn't hurt.
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Yr right - DPS is gonna be pretty abysmal with that fit ...
Also - if you get NPC-scrambled/webbed by something small at close range that your guns cannot track, you'll be in trouble. . "Out of the good of evil born, Came Uriel's voice of cherub scorn" |

I have been using a covert legion for a few months now with a similar set up to yours but with a few changes. I personally dont think the bubble sub is worth much so i wud swap it out. My standard fit which i use for solo wh/plexs is:-
highs
5 X heavy pulse T2 1 X covert ops cloak 1 X sisters expanded launcher 1 X salvager T2
Mids
1 X dominion AB 1 X true sansha web 1 X cap recharger T2 1 X free slot(fit analyser/code breaker/dual web Lows 1 X A type Med reps 2 X True sansha H/S 1 X amarr EANM
Rigs
1 thermic pump T2 2 aux nano pump T2
subs
adaptive argumentor covert recon chassis optermisation emergent locus augmented capacitor.
My advice is to fit the subs for tha slot layout you want not for the bonus's. Also you can stay in high/low sec and perma run ded 3/10-4/10 and make alot of isk . I used to fit 1 less gun and fit a tractor so you can loot/salvage on the move which is great for D.E.D plexs. Just kill the overseer and tractor his wreck and then loot and leave. a blood raider 4/10 took less than 3 mins to get to the complex loot. Same for if you feel like running low end WH sites. The tank and dps is enough to solo upto c2 sites and salvage without a second ship. Use the free mid to fit a codebreaker or analyser.
If you do plan on using it in 0.0 dont forget you dont have to use gates if you get camped. just probe out a wh and pop up somewhere else in 0.0. And for god sake pimp it up with faction love :o)

My legion ran into a site escalation that almost dropped it, with either of the above I think it would have dropped it.
The escalation dropped me into about 50 ships - of which one was a battleships, about 9-10 elite crusiers, lots of webs/scrams (about 10 interceptors with 27-30k bounties) and huge cap drain (bloods). With the above setups you would have been sucked dry of cap before you could remove the webs and scrams. I ran the drone module and lucky I did as without cap I had no afterburner or guns (no active hardners if I had them) and quickly my only tank was shield regen and speed, with armor volume as no armor rep with no cap. I angled away and reduced damage and watched my armor go down to about 25% with no rep'r and it was only when my drones had removed all but 6 ships that I started to get cap back to repair the damage.
With the drones I'm down to 6 high slots and am runing cloak/tractor/salv +3 turrets (T1 modulated as not trained T2 yet). Mids I have burner/codebreaker/analyzer, ecm (so chance to break if get jumped). Lows I have a rep and passive a-type hardners, heat sinks. With skills the a-type passive hardners similar to T2 hardners (currently 54% with lvl 4 trained, lvl 5 is 56%), but use no cap.

How about you just fit the turret subsystem instead of those drones and do more dps while your drones arent getting face****d by the npcs theyre after?

I think the whole point of the topic is to have the covert sub fitted so he can warp cloaked. Therefore no drones and no uber dps lol

tbh with the cloak dont bother, you wont be able to get enough dps to do class 3 wh's within any reasonable amount of time. unless you want to farm class 2 in which case your better off staying in empire. so you wont need that covert thing anyway :)
Atleast, that goes for the legion. dont know about the other t3 cruisers :)

Not for WH running, there is far more effecient ways to run WHs in a T3.
Reading comprehension ftw. This is purely for 0.0 exploring, to run it all, magnos, radars and all combat sites.
Thanks for the replies Iridia and hoshirito was helpful. I have considered drone subsystem and I will probably end up going with that - still works with the cloak to help mitigate risk. The DPS is much better and overall everything will be much better.

Have you fought Sleepers ever? They dont care about aggro, they will attack what ever is threatening them. They WILL change targets to your drones if your drones are kicking the crap out of them. ----

out of all the t3 ships the legion is probably the one that needs a boost in Dominions and maybe the minnie one a little

I won't get into a T3 ship without a dronebay really, heck I'm hesitant to get a Zealot for that reason. With just those HPLs and gear you could die to a single T1 Frigate orbiting you at 100m. Against NPCs, even Sleepers, I would always bring drones, if not just for that margin of error when it comes to their tackle and frigates. I've heard that if you spam TDs (for which strangely no Amarr subsystem gives bonuses) on the Sleeper your drones are attacking, they'll still see you as the bigger threat.

If you had bothered to read you would have noticed that the OP was talking about running sites in 0.0 K-space. Not W-space and as such the load out I supplied would work for what he wants to do. For sleepers I run something similar to what Riot Rick has posted on battleclinic

I like the T3's for doing strictly support to help my m8's get the kills. We all win...
