And now that Yonis Ardishapur has taken over the Ammatar Mandate and not, in fact, made a total mess of things, some already unstable persons are taking drastic action.
This is a new entry in our chronicle series, published on Mondays every other week.

A really good chronicle, congratulations yet again. I liked the multilayered interests of the characters, how the Minmatar terrorist wants it his way and it doesn't matter to him if the forces he's opposing are doing something good for a change. As well as that he implies (or wants it to be) that what Yonis A. is doing is only an Amarrian Kulturkampf and nothing more.
The part where his lust for personal glory also begins to leak out a bit, as well as, what seems, to me at least, a need to lash out at others for not following him (almost sounds as though it was a romance thing) also brings us closer to our ever beloved EVE's shades of grey. Great work.

I like it. It shows that what one side calls truth is lies to the other and vise versa. The failure is in the belief that one of Minmatar heritage automatically possess Minmatar culture and mentality.
But culture ad beliefs are acquired and not inherent to a bloodline. And this is what Ardishapur knows, hence building up schools and churches to indoctrinate the people to the Amarr culture.
The one method to quell revolution permanently is to make them agree with you out of their own 'free will'. The Minmatar have yet to grasp that concept.
No wonder the last remaining rebels get desperate. Drifting off on a ego trip doesn't help either. Whatever they are planning to do, it'll blow up right into their face. -------- Ideas for: Mining

So the minmatar Usama blow the school with entire neighbourhood.
This is so wrong on many levels.
Usualy if some country is occupied the resistance is focusing to harm the occupation forces like attacking military units, administration, supply depots etc.
The way this guy choosed targets seems like he would think he is some kind of messiah who can choose over life and death of anyone else. Not just soldiers and amarrians but all the people.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions...

A good chronicle and there is something to think about.
What can you do to fight an overwhelming force? What if that force is doing good to your people, is it still right to fight them? Are they really held in slavery if schools were built and hospitals and all the good things? Is a free but harsh and bad life really that much better than a life where you have to follow other people's authority? And where is the line to draw? Does it really make such a difference if the government is of your own people or someone else, wouldn't all government impose some threat to freedom?
These questions of course are all real life questions also: do we want a 'strong' government ruling our daily life but providing also health care and social insurance? do we want a weak government which gives lots of freedom but also lots of trouble and harsh life to the people not so strong? And what can someone do about it, is violence the only way?
High quality chronicle!

Excellent. I have wanted for some time to get a chronicle showing the darker side of the Minmatar so that EVE remains true to its philosophy of "no good guys". More of this! -- EVE Blog EVE Twitter |

Cutting the monologue up with the construction of the devices he thinks will fix things was awesome.
It'll be interesting to see how the Ammatar people and the Ardishapur Family react to it.

Good read. I really like how the chronicles are starting to show how there aren't any good or bad races and everything falls into shades of grey, the way it was intended.
Also, in before Ankh claiming how the newer chronicles are all crap because Gallente and Minmatar are supposed to be the good guys and Caldari and Amarr are supposed to be the bad guys.

A very good chronicle for a very, very silly bit of background.
As originally depicted the Nefantar where the senior of the tribes, and had collaborated with the invaders during the invasion, not the rebellion, in order to hang on to what power they had left.
Now we have this more than slightly implausible notion of an entire tribe turning traitor at the start of the uprising, only the leaders of the tribe weren't really turning traitor at all.
No, I just don't see it. It's way too complicated a plan that would've need far too many people to not talk about it. I mean why didn't the Nefantar who weren't in the know turn on their leaders if they weren't genuine collaborators when all this started? What would make more sense is an underground movement comprised of one of the tribe's clans. Call them the Nefantar equivalent of ninjas.
And having gone to all this trouble to hide the last Starkmanir you let them become tame little Ammarian loyalists? Someone really messed up there. Actually that is an aspect of the conspiracy that makes sense. Too ambitious a project that completely ran away from them.
But the whole shades of grey thing is good.
What I really want to know is when these Elders will show up. It seems odd to kick off all this change and still remain in hiding in there Ever-so-secret bases in the Great Wildlands. It would be nice to have some names and personalities to go with the legends come to life. Regards,

tbh I thought for most of the story this guy was a teacher or something, thinking about how things are going wrong and how they are slipping out of control while he tries to teach the truth. I thought he was subtely teaching young ammatars the truth and all the references to the device being worked on where to a student. That was until he said detonators.

A few other typos as well:
"...the few doubts left over in their minds from the Minmatar evasion would be erased, bringing them over to our side." - "evasion" should be "invasion".
"And immediately the set about building or repairing necessary structures..." - "the" should be "they".
"...and thus by extension be equal lie itself." - This just seems a bit awkwardly phrased to me, maybe it's just me though.
I don't usually take the time to read these (just not enough time in the day), but this one caught my interest, and I ended up reading it even though it's fairly long.

Thanks for a great story. I clicked, right at the start, that they were building a bomb "be careful or we will be scrapping you off the roof" - is not your normal science project.
Love that there is no "true good" or "true evil" in Eve, just a bunch of individuals with some collective thoughts who believe that they work for the greater good.
When Minmatar start killing Minmatar then the Amarr slavers have truely won. Sad but is the way of the world.

I think you might be considering the narrator to be more reliable than he really is. It can quite easily be a rationalisation on the part of the narrator to paint himself/his tribe/his friends as the good guys all along (In this case good guys for him = "Good Minmatars"). After all he has some fairly skewed rationalisation of the "Badness" of the Amarr and Ardishapur.
Essentially he believes that it doesn't matter what the Amarr do, whether apparently benign, beneficial or aggressive, it will be bad and wrong simply because it is the Amarr doing it and he provides a rationalisation for this point of view (They're only doing it to subvert us/me!). It seems sensible to assume that he'd treat Minmatar similarly (anything True Minmatar does must be right, for some reason, because it is us doing it). So he makes up a cosey story about the Nefantars being tragic heroes.

Very nice. I play an ammatar, so I do like stories based on them, but it highlights the issue between the minmatar and the ammatar. Are the minmatar and the revolutionaries angry that so many of the ammatar will not choose freedom and revolution but instead choose subservience - and safety ?
If you have people who will not follow you into freedom, is it justified to do what is 'necessary' and, as the character in the story seems to suggest, take radical action (kill ?) to force them to freedom
I do like the shades of grey. It also explains why people might choose slavery over freedom. |

Edited by: Ouro Akala on 22/09/2009 12:01:13 To sum up a few opinions, and add a bit of my own, this chronicle does seem to be about the conflict between the harsh, yet idealistically motivated choice, and the comfortable, yet conformist choice.
As to the whole tribe of the Nefantar joining the Amarr against the other tribes, we probably could assume that the pre-contact Minmatar civilisation was not a more or less cosmopolitan mix of tribes living in one great society, as it seems to be suggested that it is today, but a union of tribal states with their respective homelands, borders, armed forces, languages and cultures. It was stated somewhere, I sadly don't remember where, that the tribes sometimes fought one another directly, just like real life countries do. So, if we take this approach, then the idea of one tribe going against the others is actually quite realistic, as the word "tribe" also stands for a state in which the tribe lives, and is free to plot and scheme and make political behind-the-scenes decisions that no other tribe can eavesdrop on in it's borders.
Also, there probably were resentmens and prejudices between the tribes, that could push one or the other to go against the rest, as it does happen in nearly every part of the world.

Edited by: Onnen Mentar on 22/09/2009 12:51:38 I've been waiting for a long time for this chronicle
It was a real joy to read and will probably help me develop the Murientor storyline a bit. When I rewrote Murie's background story over two years ago to make it more credible, I combined Ammatar and Starkmanir storyline elements to come up with a unique history for Murie. It's somewhat ironic how the official storyline developed in a very similar direction, but almost deprived us of our reason of existence: getting revenge and terrorizing the Ammatar because of their betrayal. After all the recent events, our very strong anti-Ammatar stance had become somewhat problematic... But now with the Nefantar actually having hidden the Starkmanir, our original background story (written over 4 years ago) has suddenly become a lot more credible again.
Can't wait to read some more on Ammatar/Starkmanir developments.

A most worthy addition to the Chronicles. Kudos to Abraxas, who has managed to bring recent events together and reflected from a unique point of view.
Being a Minmatar and a member of the Sebiestor tribe by birth, my allegiance to the Holy Amarr Empire has earned me the wrath of my wayward heathen brothers. By fighting for those who will free our people from the backward tribal chaos and lead them to true salvation, my fellow Ammatar and I are branded traitors by our kin. Thus the story resonates well with me, by showing that the worst enemy of the Minmatar are themselves. These "freedom fighters" are willing to sacrifice anything, including the lives of countless peaceful citizens of the Mandate, to protect the twin delusions of self-determination and liberation from their legitimate masters.
Our one and only true allegiance is to the Mandate, and the Empire.

Awesome chron.
But I think people are drawing the wrong conclusion with, "there is no absolute right or wrong, good or bad". There is good and bad, but both exist in each of us.
Nice to hear a story of how the love one has for their own people can get twisted into actions that hurt them. Makes you stop to think about terrorism and how it comes about. Especially when the focus of justice is totally in the past, with no vision of hope for the future.
