So i'm primarily a Gallente mission runner and i have a few questions about gallente standing increases in regards to how it will negatively affect caldari standings when i complete important storyline missions.
Please correct me if im wrong but to my understanding, if i continue missioning for gallente corps and as my gallente faction standing increases, my caldari will lower because of a "derived modification" to a maximum of -5.0 maximum as long as i don't actually do missions against caldari faction ships?
Currently i have diplomacy 3 skilled and my caldari standing is -1.99 but without diplomacy it would be -3 point something.
If i skill up diplomacy to V, and if i decline any missions against the caldari faction and just take the derived modication hits while my gallente standing increases with successful missions, what is the lowest my caldari standing will go? can it still go as low as -5.0 or will the diplomacy give me a buffer to where it will only go so low?
Im still learning the standing system. I guess ultimately my question is,,, do the derived modifications inch my closer to -5.0 for actual standing or standing with diplomacy included? Even with diplomacy V and if i decline missions against caldari, will my standing go as low as -5 or closer to -2.0? If I never do missions against caldari with diplo V, what is the lowest standing i can expect?

You are correct that the lowest Caldari standing you can get will by -5.0 through derived standing losses only (i.e. not shooting Caldari ships). With diplomacy at V, your -5.0 standing becomes an effective -2.0 standing. According to the agent descriptions you need a -2.0 faction standing or higher to speak with a L1Q-20 agent, however when I try (with my -2.0 standing) I'm told I can't access that agent. A bug maybe?
Cheers, Arrs

On the topic of social skills, do people find it worth it to train up to V for Social and Connection? Right now I am nearly deadset on just leaving it at IV but I welcome inputs on this matter.

EVE rounds standings for display, but carries and uses all decimals internally. So your -5.0 standings might actually be -5.03, which would round to -5.0, but with diplomacy would result in effective standings of -2.01. I encountered this when I first tried to get a jump clone. I had standings of 8.0 to the corp I was grinding, per the client, but I wasn't able to get a jump clone. I ran one additional mission; my standings still showed as 8.0, but I could get the jump clone.

But again if I am at -2.00 with diplomacy skilled to 5, will my standings go lower than -2.00 or should i expect them to go up to -5.0 even with diplo V meaning an actual standing of
I run gallente missions. As my gallente standing goes up my caldari goes down gradually up to a max of -5.0.
Hypothetical example. lets say hypothetically i've missioned a million times for gallente (not accepting missions against cadari faction) and my caldari standings have dropped to exactly -5.0. Then i decide to skill up diplo up to V making my effective standing -2.0. If i continue missioning for positive gains with gallente, will my caldari stay at -2 as that is the hard limit or will it creep back down to -5.0 even with diplomacy?

Your true standing will stay at -5 as long as you only get derrived standings and never actually shoot a Caldari.
Your effective standing is your true standing + your diplomacy bonus.
So no, as long as you never shoot Caldari, and if your Diplomacy skill is 5, then your effective standing will never go below -2.

I trained Social V on all my accounts, but only Connections IV. It helps cuts down on the standings grind.
