I have been had the same problem with this part of the mission twice now. It appears that the mission is not working as it should. I warp to the location given in the journal, and it brings me to the acceleration gate. I am not 60 km out as mission guides say I should be, I'm right on top of the acceleration gate. There is no ambush that comes, so I use the acceleration gate arriving to the deadspace with the mining structure. I receive the warning in the local chat, but nothing else happens. I approach the mining structure with no ambush occurring until I actually target and shoot the mining structure. After I dispose of the ambush party, the mission is still not completed. Its not until I waste the vast amount of time and firepower in destroying the mining facility that the mission is completed. This has happened twice now.
Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem happen? I really don't want to have to decline this mission as its part of a good chain involving a ton of bounty ISK.

There is a locked acceleration gate when you warp into the deadspace, I am not sure what has to be clicked in the overview settings for it to show up on the overview list, but it does not rate an acceleration gate icon on the overview, it just shows up on the list. Approaching that locked acceleration gate will trigger the ambush and the mission completion message, you can warp away at that point and not shoot anything at all, especially as the mission can be completed in a shuttle. So it's not the 1st acceleration gate that you are 60 km away from (in the mission guides), it's the locked gate that is about 50-60 km away from where you warp into the deadspace. It's usually to the left and down some from the warp in position. To be honest, I didn't know there was another way to complete the mission. Congratulations on finding that out!

The problem is there is no locked acceleration gate for me. The beacon is on an unlocked, regular acceleration gate and there is nothing else around.
And I would not recommend finishing the mission in this manner. The loot is garbage and I don't even want to know how many missles it takes...

The locked acceleration gate is in the same pocket where the mining facility is. Zoom out to see it as it doesnt appear in your overview.
Aggress the facility to trigger the first spawn.
Approach the locked gate.
Mission completes when you are at 10km from the locked acceleration gate. 10km also launches some enemies which are not required to kill. There is no need to kill the mining HQ.

Edited by: Salizar Amolkshue on 24/09/2009 20:33:20 The dungeon has been setup the exact same every time I've ever done that mission. If you stop when you first enter the room with the station and turn to face it, center the station in your screen. Then pan your view about 70 degrees to the left and a little down and there should be an acceleration gate way in the distance. As Azyn mentioned, it is not on the overview (or at least, not on the default overview), so you have to select it in space if you want to use it as a marker to approach.
It's not all that big and it's quite a ways away and its dark in color and surrounded by asteroids and other junk in space, so it's easy to miss. Even knowing exactly where it is I sometimes find myself squinting at the screen trying to pick it out.
Targeting the mining station and shooting at it will cause part of the ambush to spawn. There should be a bunch more that spawn when you get close to the acceleration gate. It's interesting that destroying the mining station also completes the mission, I didn't know that.

Actually you don't have to kill any of the enemies to complete the mission. The mission can be done in a shuttle with no weapons at all. Just run for the locked gate, and warp out once the bad guys spawn.

I recommend adding an "All" tab to your overview. In it, edit the overview filter to show EVERYTHING. Somewhere in that list you will see the locked acceleration gate (to your left after you warp in on the station).
The "All" tab comes in handy in several missions where you have to find structures.
I usually do Recon 1 & 2 in a shuttle, even at level 4.

I tend to run it in a Stabber (the same one I use for part 3 of the level 4 variant. I just fly out , put the locked acceleration gate between me and the station or gate I'm heading for, align to my target, and warp out as soon as the ambush triggers. I don't bother fighting this one, though I do fight part 1. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

Edited by: Celia Therone on 25/09/2009 01:09:41 I think that the locked acceleration gate is a Large Collidable Object (but it's conceivable that it's a Large Collidable Structure as it's been a while since I did this mission). So go into your overview and check both of these before you warp through the first acceleration gate.
You'll land fairly close to the mning station so check the overview for the locked gate and approach it, it should be about 60km away. When you get close enough (think 2.5km) an ambush spawns and you complete the mission so you can warp out then. Blowing up the mining station isn't necessary (but will also spawn the ambush), nor is killing the ambush ships and towers.
The ambush is annoying (half a dozen towers spread over 75km or so and more low isk value ships) so it's dubious that it's worth fighting through except for the joy of carnage.

Thank you everyone for the indepth details as to where this is. I found it, and am an idiot. But now seeing it, I now know why I had never seen it before. How the mission is described, for whatever reason I was thinking the first gate would lead you to a second that was locked, that was in a different area than the mining station.
To anyone else, I would not recommend destroying the mining station. Its a tedious, long, pain in the ass. The loot is random, but for the most part not worth bothering with. Makes me wonder how many other missions out there have a sort of alternate way of finishing them.
Thanks again for hasty responses.

Yup, it's completely unnecessary to blow up the mining station. It really doesn't give you anything. ----- Why doesn't anyone ever read the forums before posting? EVE is a game of adaptation and planning. Adapt or die. |
