Edited by: wukkar on 25/09/2009 20:55:49 Edited by: wukkar on 25/09/2009 20:54:54 Currently in the game people regularly log off in enemy territory in order to save their ship when they are boxed in. This is not the reason the mechanic for ships disappearing when people log off was put in. It was put in so that people wouldn't log off for the night and come back dead because their ship was found in the 8 or so hours they were off line.
Currently this is an abused mechanic with both the warping and ships disappearing ~30 secs after log off if the person was not aggressed. People log in and off continually to avoid being killed and if done right even with a person probing them down can get away 100% of the time.
This causes the issue of both an abused mechanic in order to save one's ship as well as server load from multiple people rapidly logging in and out, causing undo stress on the server.
I propose that all ships remain on the field(still warp but remain in game) for 5 minutes minimum after logoff, 15 minutes if aggressed, and if attacked do not disappear for 15 minutes. Furthermore ships should not warp for 15 to 30 seconds after a connection is lost to avoid the people who continually log in and out rapidly in order to keep warping 1 million Km from their current location.
This will make it so that ships in enemy territory will not have a get out free card to play when they are cornered and do not think they can win, and will further promote the use of probes on a battlefield, but not give people a long enough window that if they were not already in the system they can immediatly find their opponent and aggress him before the time is up.

This would also make it so that if you have to relog for some reason(usually due to an error or a crash) you can come back in game and are still with your fleet.

The real reason the warp off mechanic is in place is not for people who wish to log out in space, that is simply a by product of the mechanic. It actually protects people who lose connection or suffer client crashes.
And relogging will not affect being in a fleet as you will still have to rejoin the fleet, and unless the fleet has warped off, you will still warp back to your original position before logging out, so they should still be within easy reach when you return.
The problem is that CCP is unable to tell the difference between a lost connection and a intentional disconnect, so they used the warp off mechanic to protect players who drop out of the game against their will. ------------------------------------------------ You either need a punch up the throat or a good shag.

Repeated log in/log out is an exploit that should be removed. It shouldn't be possible to move your current warp-to location once you drop connection for any reason.
I do think ships should also remain in space slightly longer when not aggressed to give hostiles a chance to scan them out. I don't see any difference between warping to a safe and emergency warping, though, so that should probably stay as instant.

Edited by: wukkar on 25/09/2009 23:23:20 I agree that they could keep the warp immediately on disconnect as long as the person always warps bac kto the same spot. That is a good idea.
The 30 seconds it takes for ships to disappear is ludicrous though, even if you agress them after the person logged off they still dissapear after 30 seconds.
If people were to warp immediately, but always return to the same spot, as well as stay for a minimum of 5 minutes on the field after logoff(15 minutes if aggressed) it would make logging off a less viable tactic, but still protect people who do log off or get disconnected.
Furthermore if a person really wants to have a 100% safe foolproof plan they just have to fit a cloak on every ship, otherwise there should be no way to be able to "dissapear" in enemy territory with near complete immunity.

Pratically everyone would agree though that the mechanic with the way it works now is overabused and needs to be fixed.
