If you're into black or death metal, then check out my band @ http://www.apothys.us. We've got a kick ass show coming up w/ Ensiferum, Hypocrisy, Ex-Deo, Blackguard and Swashbuckle (yeah, its THAT good a line-up!)
Even if you don't live anywhere near, take a listen to our stuff, let me know what you think... and be kind... in a demonic, sinister black metalish sorta way.

Not sure what to think. Sometimes it seems the bm riffs doesnt mix too well within the overall death-sound. The vocals are okay though, works most of the time. I think you should go on the DM bit more and use the more bm style vocals, cause you've got the skills for it and it is what sounds good in your mix.
What's up with the popriffs in "of writing eyes" at 2:00 and some time onward?

Thanks for listening! I really appreciate the input. The musical sweet spot we're looking for is blackened progressive death, so we don't focus specifically on strictly death or black metal. And that also goes to the 'popriff' part you mentioned. I have to be honest - I never thought of that section in that way. But I guess the fun of any artistic endeavor is the interpretation.
Anyway, I really do appreciate the feedback and hope to hear from others too. Thanks!

I'm not really into black metal. But I have listened to it on occasion. Alternative rock and stoner rock is more my cup of tea.
I did listen to the three songs you had on your website, and the thing that struck me was how long they all were. It felt more like you were trying to make the songs a certain lenght and filled it from start to finish with whatever you came up with instead of the songs having a beginning, middle section and ending.
Don't get me wrong, one of my favourite bands is Tool; a band known for their rather lenghty tracks. The difference is that they can pull it off. Here's and example.
Hope the show goes well!

I am at work so I can not listen to the music currently.
Considering your show is at JAXX and you are a black metal musician, there is a good chance our paths have crossed in the past.
I do not make it north for shows at this point in time, but if you all ever get a gig in Richmond, send me an eve mail and I will be sure to be there with some extra people.

That would explain it then. I think the other guy had a good point with the long tracks seemingly filled with a bit mixed content. You should look into that, maybe start out with some simpler ways of getting different parts together and move on from there as you learn, to make it feel more like it's a really thought-out pattern.
It's a pretty decent production, you gotten help on that part too? Or are you just used to studiowork and got good equipment?

My musical tastes have changed over the years but believe it or not i spent my later school years absorbed in Metallica and co.
Cacophony Rising works with what you do in a song - the general chug (which i like) of death metal suddenly broken by a solo/riff from your rhythm guitarist and as stated above not too long - just enough to fit it in and STOP.
I have to go with the above - personally when i listen to this stuff now im looking for the hypnotic chug from the guitars - which you have to little of in the first 2 songs i heard (the longer ones) and the booming vocal which you have in spades no complaint there. The solo/breakdown side of it is too simplistic and usually in the first 2 songs too frequent.
In short gimme a little more chug chug chug from those guitars :-)
Now having said all that like im IT man and totally the word on the street..... i didnt mind it too much :-) and im impressed. I also go with comment on production for these songs, very good.

have to say that me much likey! got my head bobbing slightly here @ work :D
now.. what about sending a signed copy to estonia, eh? eh?!
noticed that my BM & DM preferences are coming back again. there was a several year period when I didn't listen to anything too brutal. now for half a year already I blew the dust off from old Vader and Satyricon CD's, winamp is loaded with growling and car's stereo is cracking again (getting annoyed looks from those "oompa-oompa" guys who drive BMW's)
good to be back :)

Ha-ha! oompa-oompa! Awesome Xeno. ;-> I know what you mean - I love rolling up to a stoplight with something intense blaring and the people next to me look at me like the devil.
And if anyone wants to order a copy, we'll be more than happy to sign it for you. ;-> Just check out our web site (http://www.apothys.us) and go to merchandise. And believe me, we would be very grateful for your support!

interesting, what's the shipping cost. when I start to buy, it just shows that CD is 5 bucks and shipping is 0, but I have a hard time believing that- that CD needs to travel a looooong distance :)

You guys probably know my brothers band Eternal Winter. They have played at Jaxx with jag panzer, Kamelot, and a couple other well known bands. They are a epic fantasy metal band and been around for about 10 years. www.eternalwinter.com
