Most players here asks for best ship fit, but most pvp in eve outside ganking is fleet based. Since not every corp or alliance can field goon equivalent fleets, pure numbers alone doesn't assure victory.
So i want pose a question, what is currently the best subcap fleet composition for a low sec gate camp?
And conversely, what is the best subcap counter? Hypothetically, you want to help get a trapped freighter out of a gate camped lowsec system without stations, how would you rescue it and break a camp? (sort of kobyiashi maru scenario). |

Most low sec gate camps have scouts on both sides of the gate. Sometimes they have scouts a few systems out. They will generally see your large counter fleet coming and get off the gate and safe up. The best solution is generally to use a innocent looking alt to light a covert cyno and drop a fleet of recons and bombers on them after they have aggression.

Composition is more about pilots than ships imo. 6 guys with great experience can kill 10 pilots with similar ships.
The FC needs to know his pilots and what they can do. The pilots could be in any number of shiptypes, but they need tobe GOOD in that ship. |

If you have a freighter more than a single system into low something is wrong. Undock in low, warp to high sec gate, jump. Gotta be a little more careful getting it in of course.
If you have to move anything deeper into low use a JF, carrier or cloaky hauler. |

How many pilots? what's their level of activity? (and boredom threshold) and what's the space like?
I've seen successful camps made up of all manner of ships, from a heavy 'dictor, drake and sniping 'nado to Bhaalgorns and Mach's and camps with Carriers on standby... Not to mention Sniggerdly's "Yay for Warp to Zero" camp and its eye-watering list of kills.
Most people camping a lowsec gate can't bring together a Sniggerdly sized fleet and keep it together, few lowsec gates will be able to hold Faction BS regularly without someone decides to have a go at killing them just to see them go boom (and, ideally, FRAPS the encounter)...
On the other side of the coin; it takes a lot of research to try to determine how many Falcons might be cloaked up or logoffski'd around a Faction BS gate camp, a Sniggerdly style camp will see traffic (and therefore get kills) and therefore be difficult to bore off a gate (and all but impossible to fight off) because no matter how many warnings you might attempt to give in Local on the highsec side there will always be people who think that they can get through it (some because they really believe their ship can tank dozens of BS simultaneously, some because they think their Blockade Runner or CovOps is uncatchable, some because they didn't see your warnings and declined your convo, and some because they really believe they're safe because they haven't done anything to the pirates and are just minding their own business)...
In terms of getting a freighter out... I'd want a CovOps in system for a start, eyes on the camp should never be underestimated and if those two people in system are ratting in belts out of D-Scan range of the station then they aren't sitting at a pounce point waiting for their scout to tell them something's happening. Ideally they'd also create an insta-undock for the freighter but we'll get to that later... Given the choice I'd also add a Daredevil or Cruor, ideally in corp with the freighter but if the freighter matters enough then with a pilot who's willing to lose some sec status...
Needless to say, these ships aren't fighting their way through the camp, but they might be able to choose the right time to get the freighter out in one piece.
Incidentally, to the poster above, sometimes you have to use a freighter, even if for no other reason than not having access to a Jump Freighter (although perhaps Black Frog Logistics are a better option in that case). |

The ECM iis a big problem for fleets trying to break a camp, but it is also the biggest advantage of maintaining a camp.
Also, whoever advised the HIC, you know you can't bubble in lowsec right, so wouldn't that just be a heavy tackler, which I think Force Recons do better in the Arazu and Rapier combo I thought there would a lot more Recons in the gate camp set ups, not expensive tech 3's. Very interesting. |

The optimal subcapital gatecamp is probably:
1 Devoter with 2 sensor boosters 1 web/link Loki, with the Interdiction Manuevers ganglink (and a Skirmish Warfare mindlink) and a scanres of at least 600mm. 1 Vigilant or Ashimmu with 2 Federation Navy webs (the loki links are necessary for this to work on a regional gate) 1 Bhaalgorn with 3 faction neuts. Someone should RSB it. 1 Proteus with 1 long point and 1 scram. 1 armor Falcon or Rook 2 Oneiroses (optional)
1 cloaked scout alt on the other site of the gate, in some very low-profile alt corp with a pathetic carebear-sounding name and bio to match
Everyone else should be in sensor-boosted high-DPS ships.
Everyone should fit ECM drones, of the biggest variety they can. (If you don't have any logis, put RR drones in whatever spare room you have in your drone bay to repair your buffer at the safespot.) Stay aligned to the gate. It is preferable that your safespot be in line with a station or friendly POS, if possible, so that you can align while you align :xzibit: and get out if a gang comes to fight you (so you can reship to non-camping-specialized fight them)
To get a freighter out, the easiest way would be to jump in a titan and bridge it out, or have one falcon for every ship the gatecamp has. |

Force recons have no tank\buffer for small gate camps. A HIC can field a huge buffer and with enough sebo's and remote sebo's that can lock just about everything. You can sit on the gate and have decent focused disruptor range in LS.
