Quote: All candidates have to submit a scan of their valid passport in order to be considered eligible candidates
Er..... Damn the US and it's open boarders policy. Ah, I don't think I can get a passport in less then 12 days. I do know I could get one before it would actually be needed. Is it passable to enter as a CSM under the contingency of acquiring a passport?

Originally by: I'm Down If I do not currently have a passport, but I am in the process of getting one, is there some loophole to the necessity to have one before October 15th? It takes 4-6 weeks in the US to get a Passport.
I have a minute at work to get into this a bit more. I quoted I'm Done since she mentioned it first.
I do understand the need of a CSM to have a passport, they would need one to get to Iceland for the meeting in February. The issue I have is the lack of notice that one would be needed to enter as a CSM. I checked the CSM info here on Eve-O a few weeks ago. There was no information posted about the requirements to be a CSM candidate. this meant I had to wait till the Blog was posted so I could see what was needed. If the CSM qualifications would have been posted, and really they should always be posted in the CSM section, I could have gone out and applied for a passport. I may or may not have received it in time to file as a candidate. It would have been my fault for missing the deadline since I waited to long to research the CSM candidate requirements. Since there was no listing if any requirements until the blog there was noting I could do to get a passport. Even if I attempted to do so on Monday I would not receive the passport itself until the beginning of November at the earliest. Expedited passports are available but only to those applying for Visa's or who can submit an eminent departure date on an airline, nether case applies here.
Short version. The lack, and late listing, of the requirements to be a CSM disqualify s otherwise eligible candidates simply because they ether do not travel internationally or no other use for a passport.

With todays Tech in cameras online and our amazing tech in telecoms it seems very odd that all the peeps have to go to iceland anyways.
I would love to do something like this and try to represent the "Newb and smaller corp ceo guys" in eve, but I cant afford tickets t oiceland or to afford the huge time to get out of the country. Also I agree with the passport thing why not a Countrys ID with background check etc, unless they worried about the chinese age tampering and issuing fake ID`s to there peeps to take over eve just like the 12 year old girls in the olympics :)
TL:DR Use cameras to have tele confrances if they good enough for nasa and microsoft they good enough for CSM.
Post clear rules and requirements way earlier than now, as its hard t onot plan ahead 4 months or so.
You will never get the true heartbeat of EVE if its all peeps who can travel to Iceland and take work off for along time, The great thing of eve is half the peeps I know arent 12 year old kids or Teens in college but Men and Women with families who have prioritys or Guys like me who play sports and cant miss my season and we should be represented so you gain more perspective of casual platyers also which swell the eve numbers. If you run, You`ll only die tired :) |

Well, first off the CCP pays for the airfare and lodging for the CSM for the Iceland summit. In a since you can see that as the "payment" for the amount of work the CSM's put in over the course of the term. Additionally there is a very big difference between a face to face meeting and a teleconference.
The passport requirement is in fact understandable. They would want to make sure that an elected CSM can participate in the Iceland summit. There is a huge issue that they do not have the CSM requirements posted in the CSM section so that people would know about this in advance. Then again chatting with the people I know in Eve they are all shocked I do not have a passport. As Europeans they forget the I can travel thousands of miles and still never leave my country. Also it was not till last year that I even needed anything more then a drivers license to go to the country nearest to me, Mexico. Not that I have been there in over 20 years. The assumption that "everyone has a passport" is a little galling to me.
None the less the lack of having the CSM requirement posted in the CSM section is not a good thing. If it had been there I would have taken the steps to get a passport so I could be repaired.
Lastly you still can not submit your candidacy though the link provided. We are 1/3 the way though the candidacy submission period and no one can do so.

It is looking highly unlikely that I will have a passport by the 19th. I will have it in my hands before the voting stated in November. Could we get a comment on the acceptability of this? Really, any commentary would be nice.
Thanks, Ashina Sito
