Edited by: Ronen Osden on 29/09/2009 21:18:41 So I downloaded the new update today - hoping that my sound would be back - alas it is not.
Is there any way to get my sound back? - The silence is deafening.
EDIT : Back when there was the auto-patcher problem I had downloaded the patch manually and applyed to my evetest folder. Is this what caused my sound to leave?

This is how it was before Apoc, no sound. When they released the final product, sound completely fubar. I guess we are going to do it again.

I heard from several people that the sound issue is related to bad diff logs used to make the TQ > Sisi patch. The solution is to download the full 2.6GB Sisi client.

I haven't bothered to try this yet myself though.

Downloading the full build (103466) worked for me to restore the sound. After applying the 13466 to 105130 sisi patch today, I still have sound.
But I do get a windows crash error message every time I exit build 105130 now.
So it goes.

Sound should be restored either by downloading the full client or by copying the TQ client again and patching this copied client. The previous patch for Singularity was not complete, which caused the problem.

Be glad you have no sound. Cool? No, it's one of the most annoying sounds I've ever heard. It drowns out everything else and there seems to be no way to escape it or turn it off other than just hitting the mute button. gotta wonder what they were thinking. |

I really like it. All you have to do is turn World Volume down a little or zoom out ever so slightly from your ship. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

After seeing your post, I logged back on to sisi to try it again. Zooming out had no effect until I zoomed all the way out and effectively killed all sounds (may as well just hit the mute button). Turning down the world volume also turns down all the other background sounds; not what I had in mind (again, may as well just hit the mute button). Glad to hear that it is working for you and, presumably, other people too but for me it is totally screwed. |

Did you do a incremental update from a TQ install or did you do a full offline install? _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

As has been said, there was a problem with the patches for Sisi. What happened was that the patcher never noticed the changed audio files (due to an issue with their directory depth). This means that when you used that 'broken' patch to upgrade, the audio files weren't added.
The subsequent patches haven't had any modifications to the audio files, and so there's no patch to modify the files, although in that case, it might actually fail if we did patch them, causing you to redownload the client.
The only way to recover full auditorial splendour is to do as has been advised and either download the full Sisi client, or do a full patch from the current TQ client.
It is certainly unfortunate not just for you, but also for the audio engineers missing out on testing for their work, but there's not much that can be done beyond redownloading.
If there's any change to this, there will be a follow up post.

Why not see if you can get the back-end for the new repair tool sorted and treat this as an opportunity to test that?

I agree, I don't understand why people have to behave like they are mentally handicapped and fail to understand where the volume controls are for the game.

What do you call ever so slightly? I for one have to zoom out 50-75km. And that distance is from camera to whatever ship happens to be nearest to the camera. XP+DX9+SB Live.

Bug report it as it might have something to do with how doppler and dynamic volume effects are rendered on your particular soundcard.
