Crunching numbers to evaluate the effect of 0.02 angular velocity on a ship with signature 50 when you have Gamma L crystals in your T2 tachyons is a bit tricky when in battle. It would be pretty neat if Tactical overlay could display all the relevant information on a per gun/launcher basis just like now it does with ranges.
For example:
I turn on tactical overlay and hover my mouse on my Arbalest cruise launcher, loaded with some wraths, what happens is:
In a column in my overview called I duno "tactical info" a small circle/dot next to each target becomes Green-Yellow-Orange-Red depending on % of maximum damage I would do to that target using this ammo and gun combination 0% - red, 25% - orange, 50% -yellow, 100% - green. All the required information is already in the client (even if the actual signature radius of the target is not available, the ship based one would be precise enough). So if i am hovering on the cruise missile launcher, all the interceptors would probably get marked "red" and would get "orange" the moment they would stop moving While battleships with afterburners on would be yellow.
I know this would make it easier for newbies to use guns, but I am not afraid of competition :P

What a good idea - that would certainly help in the heat of battle

I do like the general idea, it would make sense for your tactical systems to provide such information, but relying solely on colour when dealing with symbols in the overview, which are going to be fairly small, will be problematic for people like myself who are somewhat colour blind. I might find the red/green or green/yellow combinations difficult to differentiate, depending on how bright the green is.
Visual cues such as ticks or crosses could be included to provide feedback for those would find the colours difficult to see, and example can be seen here:
Consider the ticks and crosses that are used on the ship fitting management lists next to modules to indicate if you are able to use them or not. This would definitely help those who aren't number crunchers or those just learning to pvp, while older players can probably judge things like this from pure experience.

Nobody round here is offering the second one therefore your choices are limited! |
