What will you do after Eve ends?
After Eve is gone, downtime comes and then the server never goes back up... what will you do after Eve is over?

Actually it's interesting that you say that, I was talking with Chribba about the Eve Apocalypse... how would you take it? Also interesting is the fact that The Matrix Online shut down :|
I wonder how they took it...

Yeah, that would truly suck.
However, I m actually having a hard time seeing how this could happen with less than CCP losing interest/ability in earning money

Sorry to say but that was shut down as well, not by rebels though, but by ****ty developers.
And as for Eve Online, hmm.. I would probably do my best to help make the Eve Online Emulator. ---- My Music

When I look outside, it never fails to amaze me why people are not running around screaming and pointing at that flaming orb in the sky!
It's actually inconceivable to me, the thought seeing the end of Eve. I would probably spin in my chair in a catatonic stupor.

This most likely. Nothing out there even comes close to EVE, really. I wouldn't be a happy camper. _____________________________

The odds of EVE ever ending, so long as the world goes on as we know it, is pretty damn close to zero. The subscriber base keeps rising and the game has no signs of ever becoming unprofitable. Two new expansions are released every year with good content and no end in sight to the good content. Judging from how CCP plans to expand the universe with games like Dust 514, even if they ran out of ideas in ways to improve the game, they could always expand on EVE even more by making a game like a MMORTS to complement EVE, MMO-Racing (because you know CCP's take on podracing (Star Wars) would be AWESOME), the possibilities are quite literally endless.
But yeah, Eve is still dying. Of course.

Edited by: voogru on 04/10/2009 07:12:40 The only way EVE will ever shut down is if they are no longer able to make money with it.
The only way they will no longer be able to make money with it is if a significant chunk of players suddenly quit. Enough players quit where they cannot meet payroll/operational costs.
The only way a significant chunk of players suddenly quit is if CCP does a fail of epic proportions. (Like Sony did with SWG), or if they stop updating EVE.
What we have clearly seen is they have worked on another game in silence (Dust 514) while keeping their attention on EVE at the same time they work on DUST.
As long as EVE gets these expansions, new content, and they don't do an epic fail, I don't see EVE shutting down anytime soon.
In the event that the server shuts down one day, I will go PVP in the Yacht.
Might as well PVP in style.

EVE wont go offline until people stop playing. That is, unless you are one of the last people to leave as EVE dies, you wont notice or care.

Some corp with deep pockets will pick EvE up and remake her in their own image. Eve will never die. ___________________________________________________ Idea: Train 3 alts at the same time solution. |

buy all the outstanding gtcs for .10 on the dollar with the hope they will bring EVE back even better and badder than ever. then sell all gtc for 1000% profit and buy some Titans.

EVE will end likely when the game engine finally gives the ghost and a better replacement can and should be made. EVE 2 must be in some development stage of planning or another. Will our virtual properties be transported to this new universe, or will we start at Ground Zero?
How many would accept (and welcome) the change?

CCP have done this several times. We're already on something like EvE 4. But they just rolled the new engine onto the existing persistent universe.

build a server for the eve-mu to be running on. Get a static IP from my ISP, tell everyone in corp how to connect and Eve goes on. Only real option I'd have :)

I believe that CCP has shown more so at this FanFest that they are committed to developing EVE. A continued exploration into different facets of the EVE universe as a whole, attracting different players into one big single connected Sci-fi simulation. I think CCP is making investments into the right areas, and their roadmap for growth seems very promising.

I would study and work hard in life to land a high paying job. I'll climb the corporate ladder until I'm the CEO of some major business. Once there, I'll spend millions of dollars to revive EvE.
It would take decades, but I will do this if EvE ever shuts down. Oh yes.

Eve has so much more growth and evolution potential than most MMO's, many more ideas can be added to a spaceship universe in terms of gameplay.
Men running round shooting fireballs at each other are fairly limited.

Hmm, I'd possibly make an enquiry to purchase the server files and work towards setting up a reasonable host for it... maybe even ask if I can buy their server along with the files. I imagine it would be like buying a house... think I best start saving up now.
