Hi folks,
Just wanted to post up my post-fanfest thoughts regarding this year's event.
- The event location being "converted" into a Caldari themed station was extremely well done, and added some nice flavour to the event.
- All of the talks, round-tables, lectures and showcases I attended were all extremely well presented, the discussions animated and the new goodies being introduced boner inducing. A couple of the sessions stand out as particularly memorable, these being the new graphics for the planets and moons showcase, which to be quite frank are absolutely stunning, and the Alliance Leader panel, which was absolutely hilarious. Goons, Darius Johnson did you proud.
- The atmosphere was extremely well natured with some good-hearted banter from all. Most suprisingly really I discovered that the Goons are actually really nice guys, as well as being extremely funny all the time.
Now the bad bits...
- The all-night free Brennivin we was promised for the Pub Crawl with a Dev was non-existant, and buying a ticket seemed pretty pointless, as no-one checked who was and wasn't on the lists. I seriously believe that if you advertise free alcohol as a selling point for a pub crawl you should deliever on that promise.
- The range of drinks on offer for the Party at the Top of the World was severely limited, to which I believe was a small bottle of Smirnoff Ice for the rediculously expensive sum of 1200 krona each (rougly ú7, wheras they're actually ú1.50 in England, or your only other choice was a can of the local beer which was 700 krona (just under ú4). I'd like to have seen more range than just these two and much lower prices on the Smirnoff Ice as that was just extortionate.
Need to get back to work, I'll add more for both bits as I go along.

Yo, not sure what team you were on but i was on Team 12 Mindstar's team and we got free food, drinks and a hell of a good time. on the crawl i got 6 free drinks and so the cost for goin on it did work out well :) the drinks at he Party did run out of softdrinks and there was shots, wisky and vodka and such. would of liked to of seen more of a mix but hay im still partly hungover from it even now :) and my RL m8s know i can drink :) ---===<<<T.E.C>>>===--- Would you like some more GIN with your quafe :) |

yeah, this ruined the party for me, spent around 20 minutes there had a mouthful of beer and went downtown for a decent drink instead.
also the pub crawl was a bust as far as veto was concerned, but we soon fixed that ;)
Apart from those issues it was an absolutely epic few days,
wednesday: pool tourney was cool, and kicked the weekend off nicely! <3 jinx thursday: party at rwav was outstanding (6 litres of black label sunk! plus we accidentally the entire fridge of beer) friday: partying till small hours in the cross with a load of geeks and some bewildered locals ;) saturday: outstanding meal ( <3 jinx again )followed by partying till early hours
and in between all that there was various eve awesomeness, technoveuriking, elephants, at least one mantrain ( smertrios may have been just a little drunk, we think ;) ) interesting talks, some amazingly cool artwork, (i want that ship!!!!!!) bug squashing, epic rap, lolfail rap, serenading and general awesomeness from all over!
was cool meeting a lot of new people, meeting a load of old friends, and running into assorted random devs and internetcelebs in various places! (including ccp atropos [not eddz ] in nonni's <3 )
props to CCP Horse for partying it up with veto after we binned the pub crawl in favour of some good bars and stupid dancing! thanks to all our new blues and honorary veto members, goons for the lols, eve uni for being generally awesome, same for agony, ghost festival and hellcats ;) and and and...
the lists too damned long so basically thanks to everyone for showing up and making it fun!
and thanks to ccp for throwing such a cool bash we love you guys too!

I'll have to concur with the Party and the booze selection. Seperate note: I'll never complain about the prices at my local boozer ever again.
And also the pub crawl... the bars in Reykjavik aren't big, and when groups start piling up in them... no brennivfn was to be had, and I barely saw the dev I was supposed to be crawling with. The Goons were rather interesting to hang with, though. (I was in group 9.)
I would have liked to have seen a mining roundtable. I also would have liked to have seen a meet-and-greet for those of us who weren't there with some large alliance/corporation.

Annoying that people who don't drink beer get totally ripped off like this. I hope they will have cheaper drinks and better selection next year... They even ran out of Smirnoff Ice before the end of the party.

Thank you guys.
Was a blast.
The above criticism is shared for the most part. Does anyone really drink that Polar Bear-Wee without being forced to do so?
The Pub Crawl was an awesome idea, but the organisation is in need of some improvement.
Furthermore I want to apologise for various drunken statements I did.
What else can I say, I was drunk.
@CCP Atropos: I really didn't mean it literally when I said, that i want your babies.
@Everyone else: All my statements after 2 AM local time are moot, basically because I have no rememberance of it.

WHATEVER! (team whatever ftw)
The pub crawl was a blast and thanks to team WHATEVER for adopting me. Also to the very very very drunk TFT guy "4...3...2...1.. WHATEVER"
The fanfest was awesome and i have to say i was a little surprised at how much it has grown. In 2004 it was about 200 players and 40 ish devs and the last time i went in 2006 it had grown to what i thought was a huge level but seeing this year i see i underestimated the crazyness of EVE players to brave freezing weather and expensive beer to share in their love of EVE; My hats off to you all!
Thinking about the size it has grown to i was a bit concerned that it would loose some of the intimacy that it had in 2004 and the last time i was there in 2006. Yes there are more players but there are also more devs and more presentations. CCP has grown to "mega corp" proportions but still they seem connected to their fans and dont see us as a revenue source. Lets hope 2010 will be as awesome.
I'd like to agree with most of the above criticism though. The choice of beer wasn't great for the last night but since every player got 2 beer tokens (at least 2) then as with most alcoholic drinks after the 3rd or 4th the taste becomes immaterial. As usual ROXOR rocked! and 2ManyDj's was a great end to the night and a real coup for CCP.
See you next year. Co-host of PODDED Podcast http://podded.libsyn.com/

hey the pub crawl was awsome i got offered a job after uni and got massively drunk and just about made it through the texi afterwards , only problem was everytime i started chatting someone up the dev just went away , not that you could tell unless you were looking cuz they basicly just ran off every five secounds rofl
fanfest was great, no interesting news , but hey i met loads of friends in eve fanfest and it was well worth spending like two pay checks on it ( care assist wages FTW)
anyway ccp need to sort the pub crawl out , it was just too much and i dint get my moneys worth off them but i did have a great time regardless , was annoyed i think i only got one shot of that black death **** and some guy brought it for me i think..

Well Had a great time with (TEAM 11 GECKO, GECKO, GECKO, GECKO)on the pub crawl but it was totally not worth the 3500 isk Ç20 each for a bus ride as we got no free drinks at every pub, and after the first stop I found out that at lease 30 people joined in for free across the different teams. In the last pub almost bankrupted allot of people.
But I must say the atmosphere was great and well worth going to ICELAND.
The Party on Saturday and the whole first time fanfest experience was well worth the Ç600 for missing the flight on Sunday morning.
Oh yea and I won a Free Metal ship which they haven't contacted me about yet ;) and a months playtime for winning the Lego building competition with the Amarr team.
Thanks to Veto for the invite to the house party, Red Sky Morning for just being them (Pool comp winners) and the DEVS for being good eggs.
I might just see you all at FanFest 2010 , I just need to go and see the rest of Iceland
If your a first timer for next year just remember these tips.
1. Customs will catch you with more than 1ltr of spirits and charge you. 2. Alcohol shops are government run and its the only place to buy it and they are very few and far between. 3. If you don't drink and go to the FF hall the whole day you will get bored if you are not going to all the meetings. 4. The sheep's face is worse than the shark 5. The DEV's are people too. don't complain about things without a proper solution or they will just walk away in mid sentence. ( This was so Funny when I seen this happen to the same guy day in day out) 6. If you don't drink normally don't get drunk and gob off to every EVE player around you. 6a.EVE is a game. getting mad and violent about the tactics a Corp uses to one of its members is sad and ends up either getting you blobbed or just making you look like the ***** in from of the bar and friends outside olivers. (I'M NOT Sorry for giving you the bloody nose on Saturday after FF but don't ***** about irrelevant things to me... We have a diplomat for that.. lol) 7. ICELAND IS EXPENSIVE so save up all your little pennies now if you want to come next year. 8. The cabin hotel is exactly what it states. Your room is a cabin in a large structure. you can not turn around and if your with a friend you will smell his bad breath when he is sleeping in the bed opposite from you. However if you dont spend on being more then sleeping time in the hotel then its ok.
That's enough from me...
Thanks CCP for a First time FFer

Team 8 :hi5: The price of beer in Iceland is pretty crazy and it does take a lot getting used to, so I sympathise with those who went home bankrupt. Team 8 !!!!!! hooo haaa :P
Had loads of fun on the pub crawl even though it was an expensive bus ride for me, but I dont drink beer so the free shots that were offered were if you bought a beer - waste of time, but thats what I gret for being picky :P
Fanfest party was great - they ran out of smirnoff ice about 2 hours into the night so I was mostly sober (dont drink beer :P) but my only annoyance to the party was opwniong it up to thew rest of the city...... had a bad experience of being punched in my arm by a local for no reason what so ever (was dancing minding my own business) and also there were a few there that were intent on takiing the pi$$ out of people - not cool people :(
On a whole though - the event was great once again and although we spent way way to much money we had a fantastic time and it was worth spending those extra few days before fanfest to see thde wonderful country that is Iceland.

this happens to me too all the time. im like sup dude and theyre all like CAN I TALK TO UR BOOBIES lololololol *laffs*
Otherwise the pub crawl was kinda ok. I think the largest problem was probably due to organization, which is cool. Everyone learns from skinning their knee a bit and I think that at least all the people I was with had a good time. Next year I'd do pre-registration for pub crawl and have the devs coordinate where they're going when, at least for key places that can be a problem. Like trying to pack 200 people into the smallest place in Rvk.
I always complain about the lack of a full bar at the party on the final day, but I've never been hassled about bringing it in so I guess I can't complain overmuch. The DJ was MUCH better than I'd anticipated. I expected some terrible europop techno or anthem trance rubbish like mittani listens to, but it was surprisingly good.
I don't remember anything else.
