In a lot of FPS you get gamertags of friendlies when you look directly at them. I didn't notice if that info was up permanently or if you had the crosshair up on them. Will have to look again
Graphicly, the stuff on the ground doesn't look anything like as cool as inside the ship. I guess they still have work to do on the maps. The vehicle and ship modles all looked awesome though.

I dig it so far. Hope to see a lot more graphical updates to the terrain. Funny to watch them sprint.
But overall, I like it. +1 for actually using vehicles instead of just saying we have them.

Why not? Futuristic sci-fi soldiers will wear helmets with heads-up displays that can relay biofeedback information from the suits of their fellow soldiers. Knowledge of friendly soldiers' health etc. can tell if someone who is being shot at is caught in the open, pinned down, etc. and help the soldier make better tactical decisions.

This is looking fantastic so far!! Lots of dark spaces... hard to see the insides of some rooms. Like the map screen too, you could see the "enemy" moving across it in real time too, always a nice touch.
I am waiting anxiously for this release! ------

Almost 100% sure it wont be released on PC at launch. However, CCP have let slip that it will be based on the Unreal Engine and as such would be a fairly easy port over to PC at some stage.

To be fair, the FPS mechanics aren't really where this game diverges from the rest I would imagine. There's only so much you can do in FPS games anymore. Too damn many of them; the lexicon has run dry.

what i just saw is alpha work. It is a nit grit bare bones basic gameplay to show that they have a working model and give you an idea of the direction they are going with it. They still have a good year or so im sure of development (yes i did cry when i said that long) before they put out a finished product that can compete with the other fps games out there.
Give them time to really iron out the kinks and polish this game up nice. CCP keep up the good work and POST SOME MORE VIDEOS ALREADY!!!...lol.

To be honest it looked like the Commander had almost HL: Natural Selection-like importance. That's rare in FPS games. In fact I can't really name one outside Natural Selection that has that kind of RTS/FPS mix. ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. Can't wait to see it in better quality on the weekend.
Love BF2142, this looks as though it could be a beater, nice to see a FPS where you can actually run instead of bulk around like a ******ed cow.
Would like to see it played with more peeps, the maps seem maybe a little too big?.
Wonder what the achievements will be for xbox

Running animations look a bit stiff, as do the environments? Will the game have looking down the sights as an option? I didn't see any in the video and most FPS these days have aiming down the sights, to the degree I think it's more or less mandatory to have it. The vehicle and weapon design is very nice though.
Although I know this isn't a finished product, Just curious whether that will be the case, as playing shooters without it is damn awkward and a bit meh.

Aiming down the ironsights would be a bit lame for a game supposedly taking place in a universe where you can plug your consciousness into a spaceship. The reason we stare down the barrel these days is because we don't have a perfect idea of where our barrel is aimed when we fire from the hip. ______________________________________________ -My respect can not be won, only lost. That's part of the problem, these guys just look like regular soldiers. One would think that they'd have a few niffty goodies to play with other then BFG's. Powersuits might be in order, cybernetics (ie location dmg would be nice to see, arms missing and so on but still fighting etc.) stealth suits or advanced camo. Right now it's just running at each other and shooting... -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00

As far as i'm aware (correct me if i'm mistaken) the soldiers in Dust 514 are only unique in the fact that they can be cloned, they are not capsuleers.
The game gives the impression of continuous hip fire, whilst the assault rifle in most of the video had a little scope-like gadget on the top, aiming down that would achieve the effect that is used in every FPS. Granted, they don't have to look down the sights, it isn't mandatory, and even if the enemy is lit up, aiming down the sights/scope is more accurate than firing from the hip as the video tends to portray it. It really depends on whether Dust is aiming to be more like the Battlefield/Call of Duty series, or similar to Halo.

So i suppose the reason everyone in WoW has their name floating above their heads is because they're some type of cyborgs?
It ruins so much. People stop looking for movement, like real soldiers do, and just look for labels. Even if you're running around in pitch black people see this name floating along. If you want to use the argument that it's high tech, then how does this technology instantly know the name and health of someone before they're fully in view, but never shows them as a blip on the map?

Maybe it's one of the firsts weapons, and as EVE Online players develop weapons and stuff for them, it could get to that point of epic weapons =]

Really looking forward to the RTS part of it. I'm just wondering if you have to advance through the FPS part to become a commander in a MCC, or if you can access that from the start. It wouldn't make too much sense to have to advance through FPS ranks, as there will be some very good strategic players who may have absolutely no l33t shooter skills. On the flip side you may have awsome shooter kiddies who cant strategise for toffee.
I guess once people are in a corp, it will be easier to organise, but free agents/mercenaries could get shafted unless this is dealt with properly.

I know a lot of people claim FPS skill is just reflexes and motor skills, but strategy is truly the most important tool.
Things like making your opponent think you're going to do something, then getting the advantage because you anticipated their reaction, are just as important to a commander as it is to a soldier. I can tell you from playing lots of BF2142 that people who want to jump right in the commander role without fully mastering the soldier role are terrible leaders. More often than not they just like the idea of giving people orders, or want to be in a position of power, and have an oversimplified view of things.
It ends up sorting itself out anyway. It's quickly apparent to people in the fight if the commander knows what he's doing, and he won't be in that position for long.

Looks like its in the last stages of the art and animation section of development. Gameplay and advanced features will be getting fleshed out now that there is a basic playable world to use. Most games only get that final level of polish in the last few months of development and I don't see this going out till late next year at the earliest. Probably about the same time next year so they can hype the release at fanfest.
