So, earlier today, (against my better judgment) I decided i wanted to take my first few steps into PVP today. I had been a long time carebear with this character, but i had always planned to get into piracy. So i fitted up a Vexor with what battleclinic said was a good PVP fitting, and i flew out to a high sec system that bordered .3 space.
After procrastinating for a little while, i decided to jump into it headfirst and see what might happen. I flew myself out to the stargate, and got myself ready to kill some ships! As i arrived at the gate i saw an Armageddon sitting outside, adjacent to the gate. I waited a few minutes to confirm my suspicions, that he was indeed waiting for me to jump through, which he certainly was. I pondered it over with myself for a few moments. It was obvious that something nasty was on the other side. But by the same token i really just wanted to try out some pvp, even if it meant losing a little T1 cruiser.
I decide that I'm going to jump through, and deal with whatever is on the otherside and disregard the consequences. As i jump through, all that was there to greet me was a lone Falcon. I wait out my cloak and sure enough, the geddon jumps through too. (they were both in the same corp, figures!)At that moment i was pretty sure i was in trouble to some degree, But it was right then something beautiful happened. Both the Falcon, and Armageddon target me. And sure enough, they both start shooting!
Imagine my surprise, when i target the Falcon and see the guns surrounding the gate had killed his shields. He was probably trying to warp out when i Scrambled him, because he stopped trying to ECM me. It also helped that the Geddon was using Modulated Tachyons, so i just orbited him at around 500m and let the guns do the work for me.
It was around the time that the Falcon started to hit structure that his friends warped in. I didn't last much longer after that, but it was a very satisfying feeling being able to watch the sentry guns take out both the Armageddon and Falcon before i finally blew up.
Cost to me: 10mil after insurance Cost to them: 170mil or so before insurance.
I'd say i ended up ahead there. It was a very fun little outing. That, and i got to feel that total rush of adrenalin as i realized i wouldn't be flying back to my station in a Vexor anymore.(i'd certainly never felt that in any other MMO before!)

Gate guns can be a great assistance to provide extra DPS in low sec. You just need to know the mechanics.
Clearly these two didn't understand the gate gun aggro, or they would have been tanked correctly.
Don't rely on this though - the majority of low-sec pirates will ensure that they're tanked to withstand gate gun fire (it's not that hard really). ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Big part of PVP (and the game as a whole ofcourse) is to know how to react to certain situations and to predict the other's strategy, after that it's just "doing it". The only way to learn how to pvp is.. to pvp :P so you're well on your way :)
Fit cheaply and just expect/enjoy being blown up while soaking up the experience.

Well done sir.
I had somewhat of the same encounter when I wanted to prove to a friend I could 'kill' someone in a 1 day old character. So I trained for a scrambler, and set out on a 1 day old minmatar character,(in the frigate that is the same model as the minnie interceptor, name escapes me).
Anyways, a heavy assault cruiser targets me and opens fire, sure enough the gate guns help me blow him to pieces while I orbit him at 500 with an AB on.
My friend then proceeded to join Eve!!

Hearing about the destruction of a falcon always makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Also, wtf, t1 tachs at close range on a geddon? Seriously fail. Ditto for the falcon being so close. I wonder if this is on BC, gotta take a look for a laugh. -----------------------------------------------------

No overwhelming attachment to your ship, understanding the mechanics (and certainly better than the Geddon/Falcon pilots did). ... You're off to a good start, and I think you're going to going to do alright out there. <:3c
The part about pinning down the Falcon while he crapped his pants and spammed warp was p kawaii and good judgment on your part.
Good luck and happy hunting

same here, can't remember mine but it was fail that i remember cause i didn't know the "limits" of the other ship..cant remember the name of the ship too.
Well, just a couple of days ago I learned that the alpha of a muninn was pretty bad ass for a punisher LMAO. he went throught all my shields and 70% armor in 1 volley. I went "WHOAAAA" and I jumped. That bought me 30s cause he shoot first. I think he thought he could of killed me in 1 shot or 2 but I jumped quick.

Congrats.
You spent 5 minutes on the most incredible high you'll have playing a video game.
You are now doomed to spend the next 4 years trying to recapture that feeling. I thought I couldn't anymore, and then a little while ago, killed a diemos, hugin, and vexor all together in an ishtar.
It doesn't happen that often, but when it does... oh god. --

Great read, see its not all that scary out there. Especially if you use game mechanics to your advantage. Aggroing the Falcon 1st was exactly the right move, he may not have much dps but he could of shut you down pretty quickly and with the gate guns on your side you could have popped him fairly quickly and statred working on the geddon. Your 2nd move was just as smart as your first one. Orbiting a big slow clumsly BS with Tachs fitted at 500m means you live and he dies. Excellent work, and congrates

I remember my first solo kill... scanning down a Vexor jumping from belt to belt. Finally I had a good fix on his location, and starting warping. I remember my heart beat going up and up... and the adrenaline rush as I landed only about 6000m from him. Locked and popped in about 25 seconds. Not bad for a noob in a Thorax :). Unfortunately for me, I hadn't discovered what safe spots were... so I spent the next 15 minutes warping from planet to planet with a Vagabond chasing me lol. Was awesome and made me love PvP :D. Never got that rush in any other game before, I think the realization that your about to "die" and loose everything makes it a bit more exciting... if you fail you loose your ship and everything on it instead of clicking "resurrect"

Falcon tackler is hilarious. Something I can't figure out about this story... You say your cruiser had the Falcon tackled but he couldn't jam you the entire time? Geddon with Tachs jumping in to kill a cruiser short range and was also tackled? Did the Geddon forget to deploy his 5 heavy drones?
Both ships died because you have 2 points fitted? doesn't add up.

If only I could... my first experience with PvP was when I joined a corp at war (didn't know to check that at the time) and traveling around in my mining Osprey, came out of a stargate to find a enemy Vagabond sitting on the other side, I sit there cloaked hoping for him to go away, but he dosen't, so I try and warp... hes got me locked and jammed in 2 seconds and I die rather fast.
Still got away with my pod though. And I made sure to leave that corp pretty soon after.
