This looks impressive. Congratulations on winning the contest. Well deserved.
"The system logs the time spent by each member on an op and allows for painless distribution of proceeds. "
How exactly does this work? How do you keep track on how much each group member contributes? If I hang in afk for half of the time, will I receive the same amount of ISK as anyone else? How do the "shares" work I've seen on the screenshots? |

Edited by: Dr BattleSmith on 09/10/2009 11:51:50 Odd this was moved, Science & Technology is full of apps like this and it's where I have seen people requesting them.

Time is logged as a series of join/part date-times that is then added up to find the number of seconds you spent on an op. This is then multiplied by your shares before your percentage is calculated.
The owner or anyone with the group role "Foreman" can set members to inactive when they go afk, some people do it themselves.
Shares can be used for shiptypes as a "charity flag" or just to adjust any discrepencies in the calculated percentages.

Is there any way to get this as a stand-alone app or something I can host on my own webserver? Im not excited about telling my corpmates or friends that they need a avatarsunited login to join my mining operation.

Great thing about AvatarsUnited is they support OpenID. So instead of registering and confirming their email, users just need an existing login at any OpenID provider.
i.e. Facebook, MySpace, Google, COSMOS (if CCP don't decide to reinvent the wheel), etc.
edit: Technically you could host it on an OpenSocial container running Apache Shindig, there is some code which is AvatarsUnited container specific and it's untested outside AU, but possible.

Certainly looks impressive, nice work Dr Battlesmith. I'll be interested in taking a closer look when/if this becomes stand alone. My corp mates won't entertain applications running off someone else's servers.

It won't be stand-alone. Half the features of this app come from OpenSocial. If you have your own OpenSocial container then contact me for source code.
As far as privacy and security.....
oAuth support has been added to AvatarsUnited and I'll be making transmissions between users and the servers encrypted shortly. This takes care of man-in-the-middle type sniffing, while tokens used in this process will also help to further secure ops from unauthenticated eyes.
Transmission of ops data will be private, while communication to the ops server is authenticated.
Then it's a matter of if the SQL server is secure..... Well.... If anyone wants to attempt to hack it then the response won't be in Eve but in court.
Then... Can you trust me to not look at your data..... Frankly.... I don't have time.... There is no benefit for me in viewing your data.... What would I do? Buy your ore? :-)

Can we move this thread back to Science & Industry where it was intended to be.
This way it will be with Eve-Meep, MiningBuddy and all the other similar tools.

I saw nothing about being able to use an OpenID on the page or when I clicked Log In or Sign Up. Only when I went to the very tiny Sign Up link in the upper right did I see a very small link to Sign up using a 3rd party account next to the Next button.

Yeah that "3rd party account" link is the OpenID option. Facebook, Google, MySpace, Windows Live, Yahoo, myOpenID, AOL, Blogger, flickr, LiveJournal, Twitter, or misc OpenID options available.

Pretty much, while I might be an ******* I'm a lot more open to adding the features everyones needed. I've used MiningBuddy a lot but always found it a massive pain, while originally the dev out-right refused to stop it from blocking IE users.
Probably the major benefit is the simplification of signing up new users and getting them into your ops. With MiningBuddy it usually took people a day or more to register and confirm their email, so you'd end up doing it all for them manually as admin. With OpenID users can get onto AvatarsUnited in a few clicks.

ahh cool, thought so, haven't looked into WH stuff much :-) Ice support can be added fairly easily. Waiting to see how much demand there is for ice ops, as it means chewing more screen real-estate on the add haul form.

OpenSocial server app. They login to AvatarsUnited, add you as a friend or join your group, then have access to your ops. When/If CCP implement an OpenSocial container for COSMOS it will run there also.

http://incubator.apache.org/shindig/
The current code uses a few AvatarsUnited OpenSocial extensions, this code would need changes to work in a standard Apache ShinDig.
Thinking about it there is another option......
I could possibly add a setting which allows you to adjust the backend URL, this would allow you to specify your own server/database for op storage. Sounds like it might a solution for extra privacy. The backend itself is fairly simple and will work on PHP4 and older MySQL servers.
Leave it with me, got a few things to sort out first but think that would work....

* MineManager uses Mineral Prices to build Ore prices using standings and refine skills. * Price data is automatically retrieved from Eve-Metrics or Eve-Central. * Allows you to adjust the op shares per user. * Costs can be factored into base prices. * Displays isk/m3 based off refined product. * Much simplier registration process. * No PHP5/MySQL5 server installs required. * Works in all major browsers.
I know there is more..... will come back to it when I wake up :-)

will you be able to change these?
like your standings, skills etc
and any options on the prices from eve central? like median, average buy, average sell, which regions included in calculating etc?

You tell it your standings to the station at which the op will be refined and from this the "we take" is calculated.
Skills can be edited manually while being prefilled using Eve API to save you entering them all.
For price queries you can specify a region or use the universe numbers. You can then choose from Buy or Sell with minimum/maximum/median/average indexes for both Eve-Central and Eve-Metrics.
It's also possible to manually edit the ore prices that are generated from this info.

It was tested in Chrome which is basically the same.
Chrome misses several things from standards that IE and FF do properly, for example the close button on ops tab has to have it's javascript in href as "javascript:" protocol instead of onclick. IGB this stuff all seems to be the same.
One problem I've just noticed is that the "confirm" javascript dialog box isn't supported. I'll look into making it a HTML page confirm.
Added support for ice mining. Was going to make it a separate section but worked them in with the existing tables.

Twitter is working properly now that the bit.ly URLs adds some randomness to the message.
Previously twits that were "too similar" would disconnect the accounts.
