I know, yet another DUST topic. One I feel is important to address. How will CCP go about reserving character names in DUST? Will EVE subscribers that already have in-game names be allowed first chance to carry over their names to DUST? Reason I ask is not only for selfish reasons (ofc I like my name), but practical ones as well. I really would hate to see a bunch of clowns taking esteemed EVE player monikers and parking on them.

It should be like in dust you cannot register a nick that already exist in eve. I mean, it will be stupid to have, for example, a Chribba in dust and one in eve, expecially if they are not the same person.

I wouldn't be surprised if the name in dust is your XBOX Live name or Play Station Network name. ------

Not necessarily, other MMOs that run on consoles allow the creation of different characters with names, such as Final Fantasy XI and Phantasy Star. |

(For example, same gamertag on PS3 and Live would lead into a conflict.)
As such, it sounds reasonable that there will be character names. Now, with everyone on the same social network, the character names will likely need to be separate. The best case to suppress whining might be Mr. Charname (Capsuleer) and Mr. Charname (Mercenary), since we'll end up with people who'll be quite vocal about someone who has played an EVE trial three years ago reserving their favourite name of "Dark Assasin" or "Superman" or whatever.
Edit: Possibly make a function where EVE players can reserve their character names in Dust before the game launches as a compromise.

This was asked in our interview with CCP. They didnt give a specific answer as I guess this sort of stuff is not finalised yet. What they did say was:
"We are definitely trying to create one namespace for the whole eve universe. So whether you are a DUST soldier or an EVE space captain you will have name recognition if you rise up the echelons on both sides.
Of course the overall namespace, at this point there are probably five million reserved names in eve so we will need a creative solution to enable that. But we are actively deployed on figuring out how to provide some brand of uniqueness while not having the namespace completely taken up."

it will be based on your XBOX live ID same as all other online xbox games.
to Microsoft Eve players are less important than Bill Gates Poo. They are more interested in the XBOX live community and ecosystem than helping 3rd party developers do their own thing, as a consequence every game you play is tied into your XBOX live profile and all your other activities like game mail, chat and progress revolves around the live server.
I'm pretty sure its in the XBOX developers publishers agreement that they have to make their game compatible with XYZ Microsoft services before they can release them so you don't have a cat in hells chance of this.
