Been in 6 years. Love the game...sometimes...all the time...not at all. She is a vicious mistress I can tell ya. But she loves like no other and takes it all away when you ain't faithful LOL. There is a reason why this game has been number 1 for so long and I am glad to have been in for such a long time(hint hint CCP).

After 4 years of playing and experiencing most aspects of the game I still enjoy it, even if all I really do anymore is sit around spinning ships in station. I tend to be a little jaded about things at times (eg. most of the shinys that CCP shows during fanfest which, while cool and all, will not likely make it in eve before I am a grandfather), but overall still enjoy the game very much. <-------------------------------------------------> "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein |

Originally by: Mecinia Lua I've really enjoyed EVE.
I came to EVE during the great NGE exodus from SOE's SWG. There were a lot of us that came, I think the population doubled in less than 6 months and is now much larger still. If SOE had never messed up SWG not sure I would have tried EVE.
My only disappointment really has been the lack of ambulation (incarna) that has been talked about for years now.
As far as we know, Incarna is scheduled to be released before Dust514, so it's probably on the horizon. Hopes are up for sometime 2010, but I wouldn't bet money on it. ---- The Demigodess with a Conscience - An EVE IC Blog |

some weeks I feel like I Log in to change one 14 day skill for the next, try to get excited enough to go pew pew, can be hard when you know you may lose pod plus implants and that 14 day skill becomes a 18 day one Love it though plus the people I hang with are fun which is half the draw.
It's sorta replaced my irc addiction

I've been playing since June 2005. Best game I've ever played. Most depth of any game I've ever played. Having said that if you find that you get bored it is usually the players lack of finding something to do or just lack of motivation. The game itself is full of opprotunities to have a good time.

How many people are going to answer...yeah I've been playing three years and I hated every minute of it.
Ah, so you're new to the EvE-O forums then?
Ha...yeah good point. It's very easy to find three-year players moaning on the forums about how much they dislike (aspects) of the game.
But from what I can gather from comments about player retention, if someone enjoys the game enough to continue past three or four months, they are very likely to be here for years.

And last year it was going to be this year, and the year before it was hinted it would be last year, thus I'm somewhat cynical about their timeframe. I believe not having it does hurt their retention and recruiting of newer players.

5+ years here.
My enjoyment of EVE is an up and down curve. Typically i actively play a few months, then take a few months break. Mostly I come back when new content is added.
For myself EVE has kept its appeal by the constant work and changes CCP adds. The EVE of today is very different form the EVE of 2004, and the EVE of 2012 will be very different from the EVE of now.
As long as CCP keeps adding content and improving the game, I'll most likely continue playing - with occasional breaks of a few months of course...

There're a lot of weird and downright badly designed things, but there's nothing better around MMOs, so...
That said, generally it's very nice, just don't delve too deep into certain details

I learned one thing: I am not a pvp person. I just don't get anything out of this hooligan mentality of small gangs or even fleets, and solo is fine until you meet a small gang or camp.
Besides that: not enough new stuff pve wise.
But I love flying around, maybe doing a mission, maybe some exploring or driving campers nuts... whatever. But really playing, nope - not enough new stuff for pve.

Almost 7 years here. I've been around since the birth of the 1st ships to the death of the biggest. Why do I still play? The "friends" I have made. Many of the orriginal vets are gone. There are times when EVE become very stale and boring, but then you discorver something that you have not done or a ship your have not flown. The trick is finding the things that make you happy in eve.

3-1/2 years in Eve. One year is not sufficient to know the game. Like real life, Eve has so many things to do, and continues to evolve new things, that you can never run out of opportunities. The first year or two are really just spent getting to know Eve and getting over the early compulsions like the one to sell all your minerals as soon as you mine them or to spend all your ISK as soon as you make it.
You can never learn all the skills or experience all the things there are to do because as you train and do things, more new skils and things to do are introduced into Eve. One can easily imagine that in some future we will be building cities on planets in Eve and doing many things that are impossible today.
That said, I don't like CCP very much. While they have built a great game and continue to improve it, they also leave bugs unfixed for months and years, leave things like POSs not working very well, and generally have an arrogant, ivory tower attitude that they know all and we're just stupid users keeping their rent paid with our subscription money. Well, maybe they do and maybe we are.
I will never forgive CCP for the lame and dishonest way they handled the unsubbed training nerf, for example.
But yes, it's a great game... more than a game, really, it's a future universe simulation in which there is no end of things to do, occupations to pursue, etc. In that sense it shares a lot with real life. And, like real life, since it never ends and you can never finish it until you're done and gone, it's very difficult to stop playing Eve once you begin.

I have periods of boredom but that is fine as I can't always play for days at a time anyway. I've not been playing a year but I do have a well defined series of goals which I aim for. One thing I learned is to try everything. I found some things I thought I'd hate quite fun and vice versa.
The worst thing a player can do though, I think, is to be always waiting for some skill to finish. Always try and play the game to what you have now. There is a lot of the game to learn anyway at any skill level.

Playing since beta (this char was made in 2004) and the game is still great.
Well, EVE was often said to be dead in the first years and somehow CCP managed to keep it more alive that all competitors, so I think it will stay a great game for long. Of course, it can happen to every company, that some marketing guys take it over and turn it into something loke SEO.
The game still fascinates me and every expansion brings something new to discover / to aim for. I love the idea that there is no level cap and you can keep getting better and better while you learn new skills. You can achieve everything in this game without being limited to a class like in other games, and if you feel bored, you can start learning skills for the ships of another race.
Of course, it absolutely depends of the people you play with in your corp. Playing on you own can become boring, but hey, its an MMOG.
Sometimes I feel sorry for all noobs in our corp and think that they have a long way to go before they can appreciate some features of the game, but its always better to keep going than to reaching your max level and farming items or something of similar stupidity.
But, it has a downside too. I have lost all my willingness to collect experience points by killing mobs and doing quests. When I try an other MMORPG, it only needs some levelups until I loose any motivation to keep playing and I think "WTF, why can't I advance my char while being offline?"

I feel Fine thanks :)
I play mainly solo ...well if you ignore 2nd account.
You can be solo and still immersed in the game.
Even after all this time.
I play to stay, then I wait to see what changes.
I played WOW as well .....but kept the EVE account.
The WOW account is now gone. Says more than I can say :)

I think the game has problems: - the UI is the worst, most non-intuitive, poorly laid out, arcane piece of garbage I have ever seen in a game. I wish they would pause some of the development and polish, and/or down right fix their buggy, flaky unpredictable excuse for a UI. - many people are nice, but far more have a nasty condescending attitude. I have met players in 0.0 that truly exhibit psychopathic/sociopathic behavior. Dominion's goal is make sure Hi sec people meet all the nasty degenerates in 0.0. What a great plan..... - skills gain is on a geologic time scale, and the "skill queue" is a serious joke (24 hours max). - people applaud the complexity, but I see it as tedium. I like complexity, but I get all the intellectual challenge I need at work. I don't really like having to memorize pointless fact to play a game. It amounts to mental mass turbation. Just give me the pewpew.
So, yah - for now, EVE is the only space game worth playing, but I am looking forward to release dates for JumpGate Evolution and or StarTrek. They may suck, if so, I'll keep playing EVE.

Played for nearly 3 years and I think it's become rather stale. It attracts abusive individuals hiding behind anonymous avatars, possibly losers in real life.... CCP seems to be struggling to find a new "wow" factor for the game. I'd rather see some innovation with the game than time invested in some fanfest at the arse end of the earth catering to teenage drunks. What does keep me back is the long term friendships I've made.

I've been playing since mid 07 and its a great game. There's lots to do and try out. For me i like there being more consequence in pvp, losing a ship costs you something and makes the kill all the better. Some take the game far too seriously which can be pretty lol. However i can easily see the addiction quite a few players have its a very social and open ended experience.
