Please continue to have Evemail load silently, as opposed to how you have it set currently, which is intrusive and disruptive to players with large Evemail boxes.

my feedback: the trash icon looks a lot like the 'reload' (or refresh) icons often used on webmails ... i tend to click it from time to time :) Other then that, new mail/notifications look great!

If you open a big mailbox the 1st time it takes a while and caches it on your disk. After that the fetching process should happen way quicker for you.

Edited by: Panem EtCircenses on 12/11/2009 13:10:06 Hello, could the difference between opened and unopened mail be a little more visually clear please, maybe the symbol could be green for opened and red for unopened or something. It's not a problem at the moment if I'm carefully going through all my mail, but if I'm just scanning through quickly for unopened mail or notifications, they're quite hard to spot.
Otherwise the new system is great, Thanks, Panem

Can you make an option so that you can still mark read mails by the same pilot? Instead of having to open every single one individually? That makes it difficult when you have a TON of alliance mails by the same person. :D Oh **** IT'S A TARP! |

I really like the new notifications area there. Which moves sov msgs and insurance msgs all to different areas. Out of the inbox. Definitely nice.
Labels... I dont understand their purpose at all. You cant just set the label to say corp. Then have the message sent to the corp. Or set label to corp and alliance and have duplicates sent to both. Instead you still have to send to the corp. Labels dont seem to mean anything. I'd like to see labels be more of a masquerade. So as director/ceo I can send evemail to whoever but I can label it as corp. So the person receiving the evemail sees the evemail as if it was mailed from the corp itself. Unaware of who really sent it.
The thing I really dont like. Is the mixing of the inbox-corp-alliance all into the inbox basically. There's no clear seperation like now on tq.
Another feature I would like. Signatures that get added to the end of each evemail automatically. Like the forums. ------------------------ To make a megathron from scratch, you must first invent the eve universe. ------------------------ Life sucks and then you get podded. |

I think that EVE mail would be a lot better if there was a search option and folders to help organize your mail like seen in the notepad.

Or is that what labels are for? How do labels work?
That's what the labels are for... you assign labels to mails and when you click a label on the left side all the mails that have that label will be displayed. A mail can have more than one label, so the mails you see when you click the corp label are not really duplicates of some of the mails in your inbox, they are the same mails. You can assign labels by dragging them to another label (SHIFT dragging just adds the other label), by using right click option or the "manage labels" window.

Did you ever find those mails?

"Corp" and "alliance" would be even better.
that should work now if (for corps: if you are not in NPC corp, for alliance: if you have the roles)

yes i did thanks.
it was sorta my fault. . . .
when you are viewing a mailbox the list doesnt go right to the bottom of the screen and it appears that you only have a small ammount of mail in your inbox. its very much like the combat log where you have a blankspace at the bottom of the log and its exceptionally easy to notice the >>> button as it blends in to the background waaay to much.

All in all pretty good so far, except lacking a fundamental function: search.
While you guys revamp the mail system, you ease the organization quite a bit, but seriously organize without search function is quite confusing and not effective compare to the older linear structure. Hope CCP get it done and get it right.

Can we get a way to view mail the legacy way so when we're reading corpmails instead of having a "conversation" view we can have control over who we are reading from etc?

You've really done it again and hid the mail settings behind some small, meaningless "arrow".
Most other windows just use another tab for the settings and since the mail window also sports tabs, it should do the same (consistency and all...). Of course you'll have to redo the settings layout, but you know that if you don't do it right now it won't ever happen.
Also another minor issue: "Add mailing list". Why is this a text button and not part of the top "toolbar" thingy? "Hide reading pane" should in consequence also be part of the toolbar in the form of a toggle-button.
More issues not specifically about the mail UI but the UI in general: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1209594

Edited by: Stitcher on 19/11/2009 22:16:51 Would it be possible for us to set up auto-labelling so that if we get mail from certain contacts, it automatically is given a label as it comes in?
for instance, I'd like to be able to automatically have incoming mail from some of my contacts go into a "friends" label for easy access.
It could be as simple as having "sender: auto label" and "Sender: remove label" categories in the right-click menu.

If I make a mailing list, called Gixian. And there's a character called Gixian.
How do I send a mail to Gixian (list) and Gixian (player)?

If you type this in the "to" field, it should pop up a window and tell you that you have a mailing list with that name, and ask you if you want to send to it. If you say you do, then the mailing list is used, but if you don't want that it will search for a character with that name and add it as a recipient if it is found. The pop up only shows if you type in the name... if you use the typeahead thing to pick the list/name you shouldn't get the pop up, and also not if you select the name from the "to" search, reply to or forward a mail, or send a mail using the right click options.

tbh its a 0 sum game
- some nice features
- some features simply takin from *insertpopularmailhere* without thinking twice if that is even usefull in eve
- some important features as it looks now postponed
- tons of rightclick options added to make things slower than need be
nice ideas, not impressed if this where a program id say finish the product then release it but thats the theme we've been going with the last couple of expansion isnt it releasing half baked things only to fix them later maybe perhaps if there are at least 20 threadnaughts and somebody drunk enough to do it

I'm really hoping for some decent documentation on this new beast. I've been able to figure out some things by mucking around on Singularity, but some other things (like labels) just aren't very intuitive and will be puzzling to those who haven't had time to check them out pre-expansion. |

Just checked new eve mail system, looks nice but..
I liked that mails was sorted by sender, now they are just huge pile of mails. When you make database conversion, could you move mails from inbox to LABELED mail. In mail is inbox label ready, but could you add sender name in labels field too and make them ready to labels section. Now it will take a while to get them back in right order.
Also under corp and alliance section could make those labels or folders for every different char.

I have to agree with that. Just look at the fitting screen's missing left pane. The worst part is, that it's probably not going to be finished ever given that they appear to be developing one feature per sprint team. Hopefully they'll consider a "finish-up" team for future patches, doing nothing but finishing the features previous teams didn't manage to complete in time. :)

Edited by: venus divine on 28/11/2009 11:42:05 So, in recent evemail blog dev said that mails are gonna be on local disc..
as much as i hate this from security risks its a nice option, but what if my disc crashes? All mail will be lost??
and why is there 2500limit then if we are going to use our own space for storage?

The mails are cached on your local disc but they are always stored on the server as well. Once you open your mail the client gets all the mail headers that are not on your machine already and stores them on your machine. So if you lose your local data or if you switch computers, your mail will be retrieved from the server again.

I'd imagine it would be encrypted like the bulk data...except using a different type of encryption since the bulk data files can be read. On another note, I also have an annoying sig.

If somebody can get to the files it might not be much more effort to simply vnc into eve in read the mail there. But it might not be a good idea anymore, to check your mail at somebody else's PC.
Originally by: venus divine hmm, every encryption can be broken:D
They could use some 2nd generation hash of your login credentials, or better yet some server generated hash that isn't stored locally. The latter could easily be made safer than your standard username/password combo, which means anyone attempting to read your mail would rather break your password than the encrypted mail file.
fyi, right now those files are stored as serialized plaintext data. Just open them in notepad :)

I think this has been mentioned before, but I'd like a way to filter out personal mail from corp and alliance mail without having to retag everything myself. Honestly it could be as simple as removing the "inbox" tag from corp and alliance mail, then having a category "all" that lets you see mail with any tag "inbox/corp/alliance"
What I'm getting at here, is that I have a nice tag button to look at corp mail, and a nice tag button to look at alliance mail, but if I try to look at personal mail (inbox) then I get ALL of my mail.

New EVEMail System Annoyance
It's either a bug or an unintentional annoyance.
At the moment when you get a corp/alliance mail it comes along with the "Inbox" label and bothers you as a personal mail.
For the general players this probably isn't a problem, but for CEOs and alliance administrators it's highly frustrating shuffling through all the paper work and prioritizing mails every 5 seconds.
I just want to make a suggestion that corp and alliance mails STOP using the "Inbox" label. If at all possible. If you wish to see all mails together you still can use the appropriate tab.
If you (CCP) could make the "Inbox" be the personal "Inbox" I think it was intended to be, it would be great. :) Please re-size your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes.Applebabe |
