I am a noob lets get that out their, now i have curently done the buddy program with a friend and we split the cash from the PLEX and I am now looking for a good PvE fit to use.
I'm Currently flying a Thrasher:
High Slots 6 x 150mm Light Autocannon I 1 x 150mm Light Carbine Repeating Cannon I (I only got this cause i cbf going 15 jumps for a 7th Autocannon) Rocket Launcher I
Ammunition
Gremlin Rockets EMP S
Medium Slots
1mn Afterburner Small Capacitor Booster I Small Capacitor Battery I
Low Slots
200mm Reinforced Crystaline Small Armor Repairer I
Now any tips on maximising the efficiency of this fit or any great minmatar fits to use? PS: I got like 178 mil to spend so don't worry to much for the price tag but I am lacking in skills. |

I've generally had more luck in a shield buffer Thrasher over an active armor Thrasher. This worked wonderfully for the SoE arc:
[Thrasher, epic arc] Gyrostabilizer II Tracking Enhancer II
Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters Invulnerability Field II Medium Shield Extender II
200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S 200mm AutoCannon II, EMP S [empty high slot]
Small Projectile Ambit Extension I Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Core Defence Field Extender I
If it doesn't fit, downgrade the guns. If it does, consider filling the last high as you will. Obviously T2 is a way off for you so downgrade to named for now; it certainly works just fine that way. |

The Thrasher has mid-slots > low-slots, so to me that screams it should be shield tanked.
Example:
[Thrasher, AC] Gyrostabilizer I Damage Control I
Medium F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction V-M15 Braced Multispectral Shield Matrix Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters
200mm AutoCannon I, Carbonized Lead S 200mm AutoCannon I, Carbonized Lead S 200mm AutoCannon I, Carbonized Lead S 200mm AutoCannon I, Carbonized Lead S 200mm AutoCannon I, Carbonized Lead S 200mm AutoCannon I, Carbonized Lead S 200mm AutoCannon I, Carbonized Lead S Rocket Launcher I, Gremlin Rocket

Alright after reading I have done some customization.
High Slots 7 x 200mm Light Gallium 1 Machine Gun/EMP S (Best considering Price and not being capable of getting tech 2, that 0.3 damage multiplier isn't worth the Extra 1 million isk to me per Machine Gun, Atleast in PvE) Rocket Launcher 1/Foxfire Rocket
Medium Slots
Medium F-S9 Regolith Invulnerabillity Field I Cold-Gas Arcjet Thrusters
Low Slots Tracking Enhancer I Gyrostabilizer I
Rigging Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Core Defence Field Extender I Small Projectile Ambit Extension I
Thank you for all your help I find this a FAR SUPERIOR set up to what I had, All to do now is wait for the skills to train :) |

You really want to fit arties on a thrasher for PVE, partly because it means you lose less time getting in range and party because you won't get hit that much because you don't have to get so close. Make 2 weapon groups and have fun :)
[Thrasher, Noobie] Micro Auxiliary Power Core I Gyrostabilizer I
1MN Afterburner I Medium Shield Extender I Stasis Webifier I
250mm Light Artillery Cannon I, EMP S 250mm Light Artillery Cannon I, EMP S 250mm Light Artillery Cannon I, EMP S 250mm Light Artillery Cannon I, EMP S 250mm Light Artillery Cannon I, EMP S 250mm Light Artillery Cannon I, EMP S 250mm Light Artillery Cannon I, EMP S [empty high slot]

Thanks for the input Gregor! I will keep that in Mind if I start to find closing the distance to much time that im giving them, I don't mind the time it takes to close in but I could start getting wrecked before I can close in so I will keep that in mind! |

when doing the sisters epic arc, watch out for drone missions. in at least one of them, you will get warp scrambled by drones that orbit too close for you to hit with artillery. i lost two arti thrashers on that one |

I will second the preference for arty in pve. AC do put out more dps but they require flying time to get in range, or the willingness to let the rats get close before you shoot them. I always took the view that if I can kite and swat them as they fly toward me it's better. Now in a destroyer you have no light drones to kill those that fly under your arty. But once you switch to cruiser and above you will have a drone bay to use for that purpose.
In missions, one can passive or active shield and snipe at about any level with Minmatar ships. The exceptions would be the Rupture, Hurricane, and Phoon, which due to their slot layout are easier to armor tank. That still leaves a progression from the shield Thrasher to a Bellicose (an underrated ship imo) or Rupture for level 2s (or a jag if you chose to devote to frigate 5 and fitting skills), and then a Cyclone for level 3s, Mael for level 4s.
One can also progress with armor tanked ships using Rupture, Hurricane, Phoon, but this requires more skill training as the Phoon is a skill intensive ship since you need to use all 3 weapons systems to make it shine.
Regardless, you really should rig your ships. Small rigs are dirt cheap. Medium rigs will likely be affordable to you soon as well. Rigs can help your tank enormously. And spend some isk for decent named mods til you have trained tech II. Base tech I mods for just about anything are terrible.
edit- of course know your missions. many angel missions are not geared toward controlling engagement range. at the same time later when you do level 3s and 4s some of the ships will seek to orbit outside ac range. So you will again have to decide if it makes more sense to use arty or ac depending on the mission parameters.
edit 2- Minmatar ships in general require that you diversify your training. For instance the Cyclone while fitting in the shield tank progression, shares some of the phoon characteristics in that to get decent dps out of it you will have to have trained all 3 weapons systems. Other races allow pilots to progress easier with just training one type of tanking plus racial guns or missiles with supplemental drone training. Minmatar sort of forces you to train supplemental missile and drone skills along with the racial guns and pushes you to training both tanking systems (because even if you go shield the cane is too sexy to pass up) |
