A couple of us Mac guys at CCP were wondering about small but potentially beneficial things we could do for the community, one of the first things to come up was this question:
Would you guys be interested in having a special chat channel for Mac users?
In other words have your own channel listed, in the Other category of the chat UI, with the various other community channels like EVE-Radio.
Since there is already an established channel (OS X) would you want us to link to that or should we use the unused Mac or Macintosh instead? And who wants to and deserves to take the role of operator? ------------------

Agreed, use the existing OS X channel.

I third the motion of keeping the existing OS X channel. The name is a bit odd, but you'd never be able to get people to move. Although if you can alias names, then giving the channel another name in that manner would solve the problem. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

There can be several operators, they have access to set the MOTD (message of the day) as well as block or kick people from the channel.

Sadly the system is quite simple and does not allow for such things, but OS X is a fine name. ------------------

Yeah keep OS X, would just make it confusing having 2 different. And by the way, they should really separate sigs from the main post. |

I can see the benefits of having a 'Mac' Channel. I know it seems a little silly, but I'm sure there are people out there who maybe are buying a Mac and might not know what OS X is. Obviously keeping the already established channel going is prob the best thing to do, but maybe make it more apparent that this channel denotes Mac and OS X topics in general?
Operator wise, is there any Mac certified technicians or Mac Professionals in our community, obviously these guys are going to be able to help the most people. Also try to cover different time zones.

Keep "OS X".
If possible, add a mention of that to the "Mac" and "Macintosh" channel MOTDs.
Operators, uh, other system channels don't really have Operators outside CCP.
But for OS X I'd sort of keep the current ones. They're doing a fine job and it's not like we need Operators there often.
As for making only verified Tech Support Operators: You don't need Operator to answer questions there, and some of them already are doing just that (not me). -- "The planets of a trillion suns can [...] become infected with the itch of thought - that great pandemic! - as readily as one." There are currently no operators for the OS X channel. But then again it isn't really required, the channel can easily go on just the way it has. ------------------

The channel is now listed under Other in the channel UI.
Well if you absolutely need someone to keep an eye on it, I'll volunteer, although to be honest I don't really chat in there very often. But it's a pretty tame place as it is.
Fake Edit: And yay. Thanks for officially listing it. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

You are now the sole operator, I trust the community can pretty much manage itself as it has so far. Still it's probably a good idea to recruit some more operators to help you out because the channel might see some more traffic with the increased exposure. ------------------

Is about time. Casqade had this on his 'todo' list for quite some time.
If you ever need any more mods, my online time varies a bit 14.00-16.00 and 03.00-07.00 EVE time.

In the Dominion release on December 1st we will change the name of the channel from 'os x' to 'OS X' and properly make it a system channel. Unfortunately this will mean that you will have to re-join it manually after the update.
We sincerely hope this small inconvenience will be worth it for everyone involved. ------------------

Basically that you will show up under a category in the public channels list, which means that you do not have to rely solely on word of mouth marketing for your channel in order to get more people to join.

Yeah, now that it's a listed channel they're going through the list and spamming each of them. I ban them as I see them, but they're trash characters anyhow, so they're usually gone before I can even ban them. ---- FREE Explorer Lead Megalomanic EVE Null-Sec Player Influence Map http://dl1.eve-files.com/media/corp/Veritefw/FWinf |

When I logged in the first time postpatch, there was an error message about a channel... ID I think. I sadly neglected to screenshot it.
