So I purchased my upgrade today (the previous version, EVE was NOT playable in).
To my surprise, Version 3 actually runs EVE on my MacBook Pro (2.4ghz, 8gb RAM) VERY well. Actually, when running in full screen mode or windowed mode with the Mac client, my processor temp hits 85c and sometimes higher making the laptop run very very very hot.
I'm running at a breezy 68c to 72c running the Windows client with no hitches after 6 hours of straight AP'ing around in my Obelisk, framerates with settings set to low (I normally do this so my laptop does overheat with all the other crap I have open).
No glitches, nothing. This is running in Windows XP Service Pack 3, 1gb of RAM dedicated to Windows.
All in all, VMware hit a home run in my opinion, I could feasibly run multiple windowed clients and not worry about my laptop catching on fire anymore!

Just curious, under what kind of settings do you have Eve running? Also, do you think that you could pull this off with 4gb of RAM, as opposed to the 8 that you have? I don't know too many folks going as far as to use 8 gigs of RAM in their MBP

You maam, are my hero.
I too would love to hear your settings as well as FPS reports etc. Would also love to hear about someone doing the same under W7 (that may have to be me I think, off to the store!).
Also to above poster he indicates that he allocates 1gb to windows only.

I usually keep the settings optimized for performance in EVE. I have WinXP set to use 1gb of RAM, so sure, I could see it running fine with 2gb or even 4gb of RAM. FPS has been between 17 and 40.
Running windowed mode.
Still seems to get about 20fps inside a POS forcefield.
I find performance to be quite acceptable.

I did do a Win 7 installation, and running EVE in windowed mode with Aero, the laptop heads back up to about the same as the Mac running native client. The Win7 partition was given 1.5gb of RAM, and FPS was about 10% lower than the same running in XP.

Right, so Eve performance in the new version of Fusion is better using Windows 7 than XP?
That quite surprises me but I'm happy to give it a go.

I assume, based on the OP (and the 10% lower FPS comment), that 'heads back up to' is referring to heat, not frame rates. I would be very surprised to hear that a windows 7 or vista VM beat XP in outright performance with a 1-1.5G memory constraint.

I'm not using a Mac Pro, I use a MacBook Pro, so I can't really run full settings without my laptop wanting to catch on fire.
It looks like Parallels 5.0 just came out today, I will post my results from that this coming weekend.
I am looking into using Virtual Machines so that I can reliably run multi-client on the road on my laptop without overheating. It is in no way feasible to run 2 clients on a Mac Laptop without overheating, and that's with all things turned down/off optimized for performance, and using SMC fan control.
Unless of course TransGaming works some serious mojo and magic with the upcoming Dominion client (which there still isn't a beta of yet to test on SiSi...) Also note, my corp has been testing Google Wave in the new in game browser to use as a corporate repository for data etc, so if we end up getting stuck with the old crappy browser in the new Mac Dominion client, at least I'll be able to run a version in a VM that will allow me to maintain access in game to our interactive information platform. If you've not seen Google Wave, hit youtube and look for the abridged version. Currently our corp has running widgets for POS refueling, current training information (we've parsed access the same way our corp parses wallet access) an interactive region map, and lots and lots of well stored information. We'll share more with the general populace after Dominion comes out, so we can make CCP asplode with how awesome we are with our new in game widgets that work out of game too!
