Yes it was a hack. That was confirmed by CCP who took the appropriate action albeit much more swiftly than I (and many in the alliance) expected. So our gratitude to them for getting on the case so quickly!
We will make a more detailed comment on this whole 'event' at some point in the near future but I would just like to reiterate my thanks to all who 'supported' us in this - often from unusual/unlikely directions.

Well yes but ... I think if you're going to learn anything from this, then at least it should be good password management too :)
Don't use the same password for your eve forums, that you do to log into your game account Don't share your account Don't use a dumb password Do change your password every so often!
I agree that the disbandment mechanics need looking at, but the account holder has to be responsibility for his or her credentials.
That said, perhaps CCP could introduce an interface so you can see when your account has been logged in, from where and what IP ? Unix has been doing that for ... well, forever :)
Don't hack other people's accounts
For some reason CCP won't even tell me the IPs that logged into my own account. I demanded 7 days worth of IPs used to log in to my account (1 of which would have been mine) and they kept saying no for privacy reasons? My own privacy? They said I need a warrant pretty much. That's bull.

I am very happy to hear this.
When I saw this last night (no CVA Sov on the starmap), I was sure it was an update glitch on the map, or that it was refreshing. When I then checked and saw CVA as (Closed) I got ****ed, but I always knew it would work out. That is not a way to lose a war / status.
It is touching to see Triple-A and the other reds offering their support in situations like this, it shows that we're all here to have fun, to battle, and to win - in the right way. With honor. With dignity. With skill.

I wonder where the problem is within that CCP just won't fix this. Only thing they actually need to do to implement only 2 ways of alliance disband:
=> The CEO of the executor corp can do it. => A 48h majority vote of the directors in the executor corp can do it including a veto vote by the CEO.
problem solved

Edited by: crice on 29/10/2009 17:25:00 Alliance disbands are ridiculous. BUT if you fix it for one you should have fixed it for the Band of Brothers. Worst decision in the history of EvE.

Look, as an alliance head myself I want to say three things....
1. CCP, if they cared, or hadn't designed the game that way, would have fixed this issue after BoB got a** ****d.
2. There is a 24 hour cool-down to use the head in eve, yet you can instantly disband years of work? That is a designed flaw, or just refer to the above statement.
3. How long has CCP been telling us we would get to "Walk in stations next release!"? The words, "Bait and switch" come to mind. Or you can just reference my number one again...
Point being, you either have to give noone any roles in your corp, and never have a director other than yourself, or only use one computer in your house for eve just so you cannot even accidentally goto a phishing site. Is that like the internal voting system that works so well too? Or the thousands of glitches we have been promised fixes to? Oh, wait, I forgot, we're getting shiny new "fighter-bombers". Except only one ship in the game can use them, and it isn't even a real super cap anymore. I'm glad CCP restored CVA, but why should this even have been an issue a first time, let alone a second???

You are correct, we all know that EVE Online is a fictious storyline that will never be real regardless of how much the roleplayers try to make it real. What is real however is the amount of time and effort and real money that pilots and corporations put into building their character's and corporation's, just so some derranged delusional roleplayer can come along and ruin everyone's fun because they want or have made theirself believe that tomorrow could be the day that they wake up in a station or clone vat and that the reality of what is real was nothing more then a dream. These are the types of people that ruin corps like CVA, which I have had a limited involvement with as an independant miner, mining in their systems. Any one that so chooses to take any aspect of a game such as EVE-Online offline in regards to trying to make people think that the characters and places are real and cause problems for people the play EVE-Online by employing people in the real world such as private detectives who can be compared to locator agents in game to track down people and cause problems for them need to realize that the actions that they are engaged in are a violation of the rule world laws and regulations and when it comes to the matter of harassing someone out of game because you do not like them in game because of how thye fit their ship or their race that they play as is how games get a bad name that causes those playing the game to be labeled as this or that because of a few people who couldnt differentiate reality from fiction. WHo ever engaged in this type of activity needs to be cahrged to the fullest to better make the rest of the community feel safer about playing eve online and not be concerned with those people who have lost their grip on reality.
This also goes for those that troll the forums on a daily basis to try and use what people post here as an attempt to belittle those that play online game especiall space based games like EvE-Online. This is 2009 and if those that are against the way that PC is used to give people the ability to have a much broader view of the world through their own information gathering as well as using the internet as a means of entertainment continue to act out in such ways as hacking and forum trolling then it goes to show that these types of people are in fact old an out of touch with reality.
This isn't the 1960's and Chutes and Ladder's is no longer enjoyable.
Frag those responsible to the fullest that the law will allow, then we as a community will put grapes in their ears, tie little pink bows in their hair and make them eat pickles with toothpicks. The we will dip them in whip cream and cover them with horse feathers and cucumber slices.

Regardless of how anyone feels about any alliance, corp, or player no one should ever be thrilled that an out-of-game 'play' was made. If people wish to see the downfall of CVA then they should do it within the confines of the game; sad that some players can't understand this... ---------------- "Our greatest glory is not in never falling but in rising everytime we fall." - Confucius |

If you get their IP's, you can find them. That is an invasion of their privacy, if CCP gave you the info and you went all axe murderer on his ass CCP would be liable.

So hold on, THEIR privacy would be invaded? If you've used a UNIX-based OS in the last..many..years you'll notice when you log on to your shell it will tell you when you last logged on, and the source of that log in. Most banks will also do the same. This is SECURITY, not privacy invasion. How would you like it if I stole your car right out of your own garage, destroyed it, got caught by the authorities, and then you get told by the cops that "oh we got the guy who destroyed your car, but sorry, we're not telling you who it was. No, you cannot press charges or file an insurance claim, sorry. Please do something to remove your destroyed car immediately. Oh and he broke into your house and stole a number of valuables too, we found everything, but we're not going to tell you what was found nor will we return it to you ever. Have a nice day." CCP wouldn't be liable for any axe murderings lol.
I just wanted to check IDS logs at the time because the source of the attack was unknown. If there is any correlation, I want to find it. Let be honest though, anyone who knows what they're doing wouldn't slip up like that. At this point after extensive scanning, 2nd opinions, 3rd opinions, 4th opinions, 5th opinions, and kernel debugging I am confident that my network was not attacked and my computers were not compromised. I should have at least seen "myself" post some spam on Facebook by now (different password, purposely not changed).

For the record:
Quote: I am sorry if my original post was unclear on this subject, the account was hacked by an ISK seller but I did not intend to insinuate that it was hacked because the account owner was purchasing ISK. There are many ways to get hacked, of course you may be using a weak password or you may use the login credentials for EVE on a third party website and so on. You can also be the victim of a keylogger.
