Hi Everyone,
I've got a manufacturing question, which relates to the bill of materials that I see when looking at a blue print.
After much searching, I've found a formula that is used to calculate the bill of materials:
Bill = (Base number of Minerals) + (PE Waste) + (ME Waste)
Where Base number is number of minerals used in a perfect build. Where PE waste is defined as (base * .25 - (.05 * PE Skill level). Where ME waste is defined as (base * BP waste value / (1 + BP ME Level).
Lets take an example. I'm manufacturing a batch of Scourge Heavy Missles. BP Values are:
BP ME LEvel = 0 MY PE Skill = 0 Base Trit = 812
Within Eve, if I look at the BP it says that my Trit usage would be 996. Using the above formula I get a value of 1096. 812 + (812 * .25) + (812 * .1)
Is anyone able to tell me how I can properly calculate the Bill of Materials correctly?
TIA :)

I don't know if the difference can be that high, but could it be that Eve rounds up (or down) the numbers between the calculations?
Just a thought.

As above - PE isn't a part of the wastage formula. It's part of the build time formula. ----------------

I am willing to bet the PE in the OP's forumla refers to the characters Production Efficiency skill.
@ OP: I have a spreadsheet that I use to calculate build costs based on mineral requirements and it has the same problem you're outlining. IOW, the minerals it shows are higher than what I actually use.
But frankly, the cost per unit is usually a miniscule percentage of the overall cost, so I refer to it as hidden profit margin. --Vel

It's misleading but the base trit figure on the blueprint already includes the BPO base wastage of 10%. You can check this by going to contracts inside eve, searching for a researched BPO, and seeing that the 812 figure drops down to 738 on a heavily researched BPO.
When it says You: 996 - Perfect 812 I think it's just referring to wastage caused by your poor production efficiency skills.
So if the base is actually 738 then...
738 + (738*10% bpo wastage) + (738*25% prod eff) = 738 + 73.8 + 184.5 = 996.3 Rounded to 996, which is what you're actually getting charged.
I don't claim to be a production expert by any means, so I'm open to critique on this.

Actually that makes a certain amount of sense. I recall seing somewhere in one of the various guides to production a forumla that went something like this:
Material = Base + (Base * Me Waste) + (Base * (.25 - (.05 * PrEf Level)))
That's actually the calculation I use in my spreadsheet, and it's fairly close. Unfortunately, the guide I used never explained proerly what Base was supposed to be or how to calculate it. However, if the amount listed on the BP takes into account your PE and the ME Waste of the BPO, then it should be possible to calculate the base for any given BPO given the Perfect figure on the BPO itself.
So we should be able to adjust the forumla I have above to be:
Mineral Used = (Perfect/(1 + ME Waste %)) + ((Perfect/(1 + ME Waste %)) * Me Waste) + ((Perfect/(1 + ME Waste %))* (.25 - (.05 * PrEf Level)))
So then if we assume ME 0 and a waste of 10% for your 812 unit Tritnaium Mission we get: Tritanium = (812/(1+.10)) + ((812/(1+.10)) * .10) + ((812/(1+.10))*(.25 - (.05 * 0))) Unfortunately, probably because of rounding this still comes out to be an 819 for ME 5.
*toddles off to play with the maths* --Vel
