Would you buy a 1 ounce gold coin for $50?
Mark Dice did that and look at the result, insane.

I wouldn't buy a coin for 50$ from a guy on the street claiming it's real gold, that's for sure.
How exactly do I know it's gold in the first place ? Why would he want to sell it to me that cheap ? There's bound to be something fishy about it. For instance, how do I know it's not stolen, and I could be considered an accomplice to the theft or whatnot.
So, no, not insane - perfectly normal.

It's very clear and obvious that these concerns were not going through the mind of the people in the video. It's clear they just didn't know how much gold was worth and gave a typical ignorant response. It's just a shame that people are so close minded and stupid.
Ok let's assume they were thinking what you typed, for a $1150 profit of a $50 investment, I'd at least LOOK at the coin and feel it, bite it weigh it, which no one did, cause they're all dumbasses.

Yeah, people are that stupid. This is why democracy is just as dangerous as all the other failed experiments in governance. You can have one retart bankrupting you and taking your freedom or hundreds of millions of retarts voting for "representatives" to bankrupt you and take your freedom.

And how many people are familiar enough with handling gold these days to be able to tell genuine quality at a glance in the street? I know I'm not, and that's before you even start thinking about handling stolen goods etc. A prosecution would love the fact you paid $50 for it. I also haven't bought a 'genuine' Rolex for ú100, 'Bose' speakers from 'delivery drivers', 'Gold' jewellery from 'reps', Garman gps, Car radios with no codes etc etc etc in the street/pubs

Oh, it's good to know all I would need to make you trust me and do something stupid is to have a buddy with a camera filming us while you do it... I mean, I couldn't possibly delete the footage later on (if I even filmed anything in the first place and not just pretended to have the camera rolling), and I'd be compelled to give the filmed material to the police to incriminate myself, right ?
You never see the actual camera on the clip - for all we know it could have been a "palmcorder" style camera, hardly something which would inspire a lot of confidence.

Actually, it's very clear and obvious that those concerns were EXACTLY what was going through their mind - nobody tried to haggle on the price and tried to escape haggle attempts by the interviewer, most started to claim they don't actually have any money on them at all, and some wouldn't even take the coin for free. That doesn't sound like "not knowing how much gold is worth", but it does sound like "something fishy is going on and I don't want to be a part of it".

While indeed SOME of those people were morons, the below quote likely applies to most others in the clip.
Quote: Actually, it's very clear and obvious that those concerns were EXACTLY what was going through their mind - nobody tried to haggle on the price and tried to escape haggle attempts by the interviewer, most started to claim they don't actually have any money on them at all, and some wouldn't even take the coin for free. Again, my point is, if you had a concern with the "provider" of this offer, then check out the coin, hold it, scratch it, test it, it's worth over $1100 now, (soon your currency will slide so much it'll be worth $2000+) but no one even considered doing that, they were all just dumbasses.

Random stranger approaches you with a microphone and camera crew. He offers you an item, which may or may not be worth more than he is offering it to you.
Note, this is in a day and age of PUNK'D and various other prank shows on television. A world of proud people who don't necessarily want to be caught doing something dumb on TV for all to see. People get nervous, and people wimp out and their first instinct is to get away from the person in as politely (or not), yet quickly a manner as possible.
Do you really blame them for not taking him up on the offer? Do you? If you do you're the fool. You expect the general populace to know off-hand how to test it to see if its real, when the fact is most people actually do not. Stop acting so High and Mighty, christ. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Originally by: Sleyha Your efforts to defend ignorance is astounding, I am taking notes, thank you for your input.
Isn't that somewhat hypocritical of you ? I mean, you systematically refuse reasonable arguments as to why the reactions you see are actually normal/expected reactions of rational people (as opposed to "brain-dead ignorants" you saw the reporter claim), wouldn't that qualify YOU as an ignorant ?
You have at least one person on the video that shows that they are fully aware of how much gold costs (quoting the rough correct price), yet they still refuse the transaction. MOST people know well enough how much gold is worth, regardless of what your opinion might be based solely on that video - there's enough "gold price" stuff on TV, and there's the "cash for gold" campaign, and you can bet people know how much gold jewelry costs (and how small/heavy it is).
You have at least one person (different from the one above) which clearly states he doubts the coin is genuine (jokingly claiming it might be full of chocolate), and while somewhat convinced it might be gold, he also refuses the transaction. MOST people however also do not know how to tell real gold from something that might look and feel like gold, but isn't - that's why you need not just the appropriate knowledge, but also specialized equipment to be really sure : even if you test the surface for gold, it might be just gold-plated, so you need either to break the object in the process OR to have the gear to "look inside" without breaking it ; if you test the density, you might need pretty sensitive equipment to determine the difference between, say, a genuine gold coin and a depleted uranium pellet covered in gold (19.3 g/cc for Au and 18.9 g/cc for DU)... and so on and so forth.
In short, somebody with a microphone and a cameraman comes up to you, offering you something at 1/20 of the usual price. If you know how much it is worth, you might be interested. But you also know it would be hard to check if it was a fake or not. And even if you could be sure it is indeed genuine (by wasting some good amount of time checking) - answer me this - WOULD THIS GUY HAVE ACTUALLY SOLD THE COIN FOR 50$ OR WOULD HAVE HE JUST GONE " WELL, THANKS, BUT IT WAS JUST A THING FOR A SHOW, SO NO SALE " ?!? Basically, you have a situation where your most likely possibilities are between scam and waste of time - you would be stupid and brain-dead to GO for it, not to try as much as possible to just "get excused" and run the hell away.

You seem to be an elitist *****... "soon your currency".
Stop categorizing everyone together as dumbasses, you don't know their motivation for turning down. Maybe they really didn't have any cash on them. Some people might also have some integrity, if someone came up and offered you something you know to be worth a lot of money, you may take it thinking nothing of it. Someone else may think they would rather earn it. In todays world the thought if something is to good to be true, it often is, is pretty relevant.

You are still failing to understand.
That man could have approached people with a "new car." Because it looks like a new car, scratches like a new car, and is being sold for 1/20th of its value does not make it a new car, or a legally sellable new car.
Scratching the coins, *will not* determine if it is a fake. Holding the coin will not detect a fake, and most people will not carry with them the instruments and specifications needed to identify a fake coin (often made with some gold) in case a random person offers them bullion. What, you think think biting on the coin is a test?

I think the point of the video was to show people who didn't know the value of gold. I'd hedge my bet that a lot more people would have known the value of a car.
