So, what do you all think of it, for those who have decided to buy it? I got it a couple days ago, and it sort of reminds me of a cross between Fallout 3, Auto Assault, and Tabula Rusa. Graphics reminded me of a graphic novel more than anything.. very artistic.
So far its been pretty fun to play, the gun mechanics are generally pretty solid (though not 100%.. quite a few head shots seem to not hit the heads I aimed at, and other times a leg shot blows their head off). The overall play was smooth, but got choppy after 5-8 hours. Vehicle mechanics were pretty basic, and customization was minor at best. Loot is pretty generous in the entire game though you will still be buying ammo from time to time. Guns/Shield/Mods have a nice and extensive list of attributes that you can choose from (it may not be a "bazillion", but its quite high.. and it may even been randomized to a certain extent). Many of the loot bins your find regenerate once you left the game so you can return to them and get ammo/weapons/etc.
Downside is that its not really a RPS (Role Playing Shooter), more like an FPS with some individualiation. Nowhere near as indepth as Fallout 3 for plot, or customization, or character options (which would be VERY cool, especially considering the overall "feel" of the game). Another con was that only one friendly NPC had any personality, all the rest just look like dolls with no interaction. Enemy NPCs are fairly predictable, though they do seem to have a 6th sense about you pointing a gun at them and will randomly weave in all direction as well as use cover when nearby. You really don't run into any moral dilemmas (so far that I can at level 25 missions). Bad guys are bad guys all the time, and the good guys are always the good guys.
There are still some bugs with the game, but its not "beta" game shipped out as final. As I mentioned, its a fun game, but if you're looking for the depth of Fallout, you won't find it here. I also haven't had a chance to check out the Online option (which might be similar to Halo games/Tribes/Etc) or the LAN options either.
I only do diplomancy because I haven't found you.. yet. |

It's fun, different and well made. Thing is that after a certain point you go "ok, now what" and "you gotta be kidding". ----------- ADM-I |

I've completed it solo. I have one character about a quarter of the way through with two mates and another game with different classes with one mate of mine in Co-op. Even after completion, you get a second playthrough with some enemies switched up and slightly more difficult, (Also worthy of note names change. FO-EX Everything that was previously Badass is then renamed BadMutha- and so on. Quite nice tough to keep things somewhat fresh)
Mordecai and Brick seem to be my favourite characters in that order, Sniper FTW. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I completed a first playthru with my siren, a lot of fun tho a tough character to get to grips with at first. Unlike, I'm assuming, the other 3, she's a very late bloomer whose phasewalk ability only really becomes great after a lot of levelling up. I got most way thru a second playthru, dipping in and out of multiplayer but dinged 50 and put it aside for now while I'm enjoying Dragon Age.
The MP on XBox Live is fantastic, but I never found many available matches, particularly around my actual level. But combat with a varied team is a blast, particularly if the others are semi-decent players. Suped up, I could phasewalk/assassinate most mobs in one hit and with my corrosive phaseblast, lovely explosive SMG and insane, non-elemental assault rifle I could dish it out quite well. I use a merc mod which regenerates SMG ammo (almost!) as fast as I can use it, or a defender mod online for a nice 40% team shield boost. If any of you folks fancy a spin on XBL I'm K1ngsGambit on there. Though my options are rather limited to a 50 siren, or level 1 anyone else -------------

It's a pretty fun game, accuracy as a attribute on guns really hampers my playstyle though. Sniping with a gun that only hits where it should 90% of the time isn't a lot of fun.
But other then that it's a awesome experience, it's not a deep game, but for a hour of fun shooting and looting here and there it's brilliant.
Really enjoying the soldier class, the special ability is crappy but can be usefull as a mob magnet, but combat rifles are really nice, 3 shot burst tends to give you a critical everytime you hit the trigger and with a class mod that generates ammo you really can clean house.
Siren is pretty good, but you go through ammo like mad in the early stages, and it takes ages to get a class mod with ammo generation and a decent ammo carrying capacity but she really does rock.

I was going to get it, but a dev who will remain nameless managed to talk me into getting Shattered Horizon... not a bad game but it gets old fast

Bought it on Steam and still thoroughly enjoying it.
My Siren is approaching 50 and she's been a lot of fun to play. I've been using something like this. Two points in Mind Games is enough and with a non-elemental anarchy smg things melt rather quickly. I use warp quite aggressively so 5/5 Silent Resolve has been useful.
For my Hunter I've been using something like this. He's a pistol specialist which is proving to be formidable but I just wish I could find him a better repeater.
I tried the Soldier but it felt too generic...point and shoot with a slow recharging special ability. Having said that he's great as group support. The Tank doesn't interest me.
Borderlands has its flaws...in some cases glaring oversights like the inability to skip movies and other console hangovers but one can overlook these niggles for what is a fun and engaging experience.
It's not as ambitous as say...Fallout 3 but it's eminently more playable with a style that is more fluid and focused on the next action and loot.
Oh...and be sure to turn off auto-aim

How can you not have Phase Strike!? One hit kills baby! With that, the electric damage from radiance is quite good at wearing down shields while Lillith is invis and healing up. Then melee crit + phaseblast = dead people And auto aim, even on the console makes itself known. The character would actually veer completely to the side if the nearest monsters runs past. -------------

Well I'm happy to try your suggestion, though I'm not sure I'd be willing to give up Mind Games.
I'd like to try a pure melee Lilith for giggles but she needs her controller skills to keep her alive and yet Venom & Radiance (all useful for a melee build) are on a different tree to Phase Strike.
I wish we had pure melee weapons and dual wield...like say pistol + katana. That would be awesome .

Certain weapons (Mostly pistols/revolvers) Have melee damage bonuses. Thats the best you need really. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

Bought the game, finished in 3 days, played through playthrough 2 in 3 days, completely bored of it now. Reminded me a lot of Fallout 3. I'll be honest, this is one of the few times I've ever bought a PC game legally, was very excited about, doesn't have much replay value though (yes, I know I haven't tried co-op).
