I chuckled when I saw what security status will be called in WoD, and CCP why can't you also call security status in EVE for 'humanity'?
Although, I think it is weird that CCP are aiming to make WoD a game with a adult setting but griefers are going to suffer... ?

It will be hard to lose any humanity when all that you'll be able to do at launch is spend RL cash on silk-lined capes and walk around your Vampire's Tomb. Dulce et decorum est pro imperium mori. |

"Humanity" has been in World of Darkness for awhile. It isn't something they just thought up. |

I basically grew up in a game store, probably spent more money on WH40k and the three separate armies I still have, Space Ork, Imperial Guard and Space Wolves, than I should and I used to play Dark Ages (Cappadocian ftw!) back in the day but when Masq. came out, I got bored and moved onto greener pastures like Chaosium's Call of Cthulhu, Holistic's Fading Suns and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.
And it amuses me 'humanity' is a stat in a game to track griefers...

Because griefing is inherently juvenile thing to do? Also I recommend you do research on the matter before you start 'lolling' at something.
ps. The forum deleted another of my posts upon me clicking the 'post' button, thats two out of three now. What is wrong with this forum really?! |

White Wolf Publishing wrote: Humanity is a measure of how closely a vampire cleaves to the morality and values of her life as a mortal human being, and consequently how well they are able to resist the urges of the Beast.
Since every Kindred was a human before their Embrace, their most natural response in resisting the Beast's feral, predatory nature is to cling to their humanity. This is generally represented by the strength of their conscience and self-control, virtues common to Kindred and mortals alike.
A Kindred's humanity has a direct effect on the strength of the vampiric curse; those who lose ground to the Beast and lose their humanity find it more difficult to interact with mortals, to be active during daylight hours, and to awaken from long periods of torpor. Humanity is universally adopted by the vampires of the Camarilla, but even among the Sabbat it is the "natural" and most common way of dealing with the Beast. Some vampires however reject the mores of mortal existence and adopt an alien
Paths of Enlightenment, in which they learn or construct a wholly different standard of morality. These often incorporate different virtues - Conviction instead of conscience, and Instinct instead of self-control - and establish a very different relationship with the Beast. Replacing the morality of one's human life is a daunting task, not to be taken lightly, and generally impossible without the tutition of one who already follows the alternate path.
The practice of assuming a Path of Enlightenment was much more common in the medieval period, when every vampire had to choose a "Road", a quasi-religious path to harmony with or control over the Beast. Humanity was one of these Roads, known then as the Via Humanitas, and though less common than today was still the most natural Road to follow.

Dude. I get why they have it. It just strikes me as a odd choice, to have a stat is so tied to the actual role playing, more so in LARPs, to be something you are going to track acts of griefing with.
The amusing part is how CCP phrased it, they use a stat to determine if they are going to punish you ingame or just ban you altogether...

I get what you mean, I wasn't sure about it first myself. However, I guess Id rather have a stat that has some deeper meaning, than a stat that people just treat as another number, like secstatus in eve.
At least humanity is something that can manifest visually, like making you look more beastlike and inhuman - or almost like a human at the positive end of the spectrum. In VtMB humanity also affected your dialog options.
Also I like that it might make you think more about what you are doing. Murder is trivial only to true monsters, for example. Ofc some of us would like to RP true monsters |
