You have my envy for this one week of the year. Other than that, I'm pretty happy in miami.

The fanfest always seems to fall inside of the week the first semester starts at my uni, so I haven't had a chance to attend yet. Definitely plan to once I'm done with studying in a few years though. --------------------------- Only those who surrender are lost |

I went to fanfest 2009. I stayed uptown at the Hotel Foss Baron or something, it was right off the ocean, and was close to downtown and a 5 min walk from all the clubs, pubs, restaurants. It was pretty fast cab ride to the Fanfest area.
I stayed in Iceland for 8 days with my girlfriend, and we took a number of day trips around the island after fanfest was done.
The airfare and hotel cost us about $2500 Canadian Dollars, and we probably spent another $2000 Canadian Dollars in Iceland while we were there.
I'd highly recommend going. I'd love to go again this year, but I doubt my girlfriend will let me.

My memories of Fanfest 09 include getting very drunk, eating rotten shark, nursing a hangover and falling asleep in the round tables and being annoyed at VETO attention whoring.

Bear in mind that Thuul was with the Veto Corp blob... and we pretty much drank from start to finish. That probably inflated the cost a bit.
I was there a fortnight and can't honestly remember how much I spent.
All I know is that it's an experience that is awesome regardless of the pricetag.

That's about what it cost me for my wife and I to go to SOE Fan Faire 2007 in Vegas, so that's not bad at all.

I was only checking this a couple of days ago and they had flights from Manchester available. Seemed a little more expensive than Heathrow but worth it to not have to travel down south!

they actually had flights in manchester and glasgow but left in the morning of the 1st day and arrived an hour or two before the start time you basically would have time to get to hotel drop off stuff then head to venue. I was gonna get the flight from glasgow but it left the day after the 3rd day so would have needed to get a fliht from london to glasgow if wanted to get home.
I know a few icelandic people and they sure drink like the scottish which makes me want to go even more =D
*EDIT* I didn't kno about the newcastle flight i only live about 40-50miles north of it sweet! ---InViCtA---

Damn right. There's a reason the FF2010 saving began as soon as most of us got home. The only downside is not knowing the date before hand, and it usually being at the start of the uni year. Had a bloody awesome time though. ---

They did last year (ie 09), it does mean you have to stop off in Glasgow (but you dont get off the plane).
Last year it went: Manchester - Glasgow - Keflavik - Manachester
Memories from Iceland:
Wet (but im from UK so meh)
If your picky on what you eat can be difficult (im very picky and nearly ended up livign soley of pizza, but that could just be me being there for the first time and not knowing the local resturants - did try whale though, got guilty and had to set it free ).
Go on a tour, well worth it next year Im going to go on one of those swimming tours down the tectonic crack in Iceland.
If your an EvEr you be spotted instantly by other EvErs.
A replacement Liver is usually a good idea.
Over all I think i spent ú400 on the flights + hotels and another ú400 on everything else (works out about ú300 spent in Iceland, rest on pre-booking fanfest and a few other bits).

I think ú400 is right, I booked for 2 and it was about ú800 iirc, so for a single it will be more due to the stupid hotel single occupancy thingy-me-bob.
Not sure about ferries, did briefy look at them but as soon as I saw it was more I did a runner. Being from Yorkshire really helps (for those that dont know Yorkshire folk are known for being tight with their cash).
Oh anyone idea who won the next fanfest theme competion, last I heard Gallente was in the lead....
One thing thought (aimed at CCP)
Can you make sure fanfest isnt near a full moon?
Went to try and see the northern lights all I got was a full moon that you could read a book by

Gallente won, a couple of the CCP-staffers I spoke to hoped that Amarr would win at the last minute, because that'd be much easier to theme the venue by, Gallente was going to be tricky.
I spent around Ç200 for the flight to Reykjavik from Amsterdam and around Ç600 on the hotel, but I stayed for 10 days, not 4. Spent another Ç300-400 or so on food and such. Relatively speaking you can eat very well for extremely reasonable prices in Iceland if you look around (Pizzahut is murder on the wallet for instance, but American Style is awesome and fairly cheap and there's 2 or 3 of them in Reykjavik).
Then again, I don't drink alcohol, soda/juice is cheap, so my spending was considerably less than the more booze inclined Fanfest visitors.
But I hope they announce the dates fairly soon, the earlier we can book the cheaper it'll be.

I went to the first one. It was pretty sweet.
My only tip: Have plenty of money. I got through over ú120 a night on just food and drinks. That said, I got steaming drunk every night, and ate like a king.
It was probably my second most expensive 4-day weekend ever.
And go easy on the Vodka and Quafe. Sig pending |

Drunkenmaster its a bit cheaper now then it was in 2004 .. the exchange rate has taken a bad standing towards every other currency ... u can get KFC / Burgers / Subway for 5-6pounds pint of beer is about 3 pounds maybe more at some clubs
going to a nice dinner with the wife is about .. 100us$ steak and wine and all that and a very romantic place ..
try to save money on the hotel because that is going to be one of the bigger parts of the budget , try guest houses like someone mentioned earlier in the thread.
seeing as you are from a place that is very far away from Iceland and its a place that is beautiful and it cant be explored in a weekend i would recommend a weekend of serious drunkenness then time to do what your wife will want to do .. food here and shopping isn¦t that expensive so i would say go for it but try to stay a few more day's..
i would try to use dohop.com to try to find the cheapest plane ticket .. it will probably get you to london and from there to iceland ..
Cheers :)

Given Icelands current financial situation, you'll spend a whole lot less now than you did then. The value of the Krona has literally halved in the last 2-3 years. Alcohol is fairly pricey, but the rest is pretty affordable these days.
I stayed at hotel Vik, it's cheap and good enough for the time you spend there (i.e. just sleeping and having breakfast). It's about 2 blocks away from the Hilton, and I paid less than Ç40 a night for my stay. It's a damn long way to the city centre but taxi's are incredibly cheap in Reykjavik (1500 Isk for a trip from the centre back to my hotel or around Ç7,50, not bad at all considering it's a 40 minute walk or so).

Hmm 2011, a month before tax season, hints about incarna, possibly when Dust comes out.
Shame it isnt in 2010 but I guess theres a MAJOR reason why they are 'really' doing it in March 2011 and I doubt it really has anything todo with flight prices :P
I think I might actually show up this time, but im not a heavy drinker and drugs are probably illegal -.- would it really be possible to be as 'crazy' as everyone sober? This is so not my main
