so I went to fanfest this year and on the way back i bought 1000 duty free cigarettes as you do when your a smoker and someone offers cheap tabs.
as most smokers will also tell you when you have a good supply sitting around the house you tend to smoke a hell of alot more then usual. As i was getting down to my last 200 a little voice inside my head kept saying to me "you really don't need these you know"
so i made a vow when i smoked the last of my duty frees i would give them up for good.
Last monday was my last pack I smoked the last one at 2.10 in the afternoon and havn't bought another pack since.
oh the cravings i keep saying to myself you WANT a cigarette you don't NEED a cigarette. so far it's working first 4 days were really hard but it is getting alot better i still have the urge at certain times of day.I no longer want one as soon as i wake up in the morning meal times are ok i just go and do the dishes straight away to try and take my mind off it.
i'm finding i spend alot less time on the computer though as this was my trigger playing eve i would spark a smoke everytime i would do a new task within eve. About to go into a fight? light a smoke. About to make that first jump into low sec/0.0? light a smoke basically anything that involved a little bit of adrenalin light a smoke.
i have made a list of things that i could be spending my money on instead of cigarettes
top of my list is a new car i have always dreamed of an audi s3 i love them to bits the styling the performance the desirablity of them.
but i've never been able to afford one in part to the fact i spend ú40 a week on cigarettes.
thats ú160 a month ú1920 a year!! dear god. i've been smoking for 17years thats ú32,000!!!
32 grand thats a brand new s3 let alone a second hand 7 year old model (which are the ones i hanker after so much)
so this is just a little bit i thought i would write to let everyone know and big up my epeen i've gone a week without cigarettes and i'm feeling pretty damn good about myself because of it!!
anyone else who is trying to give up the demon weed and would like to chat about it share stories about how you tackle the craving what you plan to do once you have beaten the weed altogether please feel free to drop me a line.
seriously thinking about getting onvolved with an nhs stop smoking group to try and better my chances even more of giving up for good.
with smoke free regards and a free breathing RAWR

I quit premanetly back in February.
The thing that pushed me over the edge was when smoking my last cig, while completly wasted, I went to ash it. In mid movement I decided I would take another puff, I can not even explain why.
This will be hard to visualize, but usually when I go to ash I flip the cig around to tap it off and then flip it back around to between my pinky and index fingers to smoke. When I decided to divert the ashing for another puff I forgot to re-flip the cig and I took a puff from the cherry.
I do not mean it got close to my lips and I felt the heat and slightly blistered my lip.
Oh no. I wrapped my lips around that cherry and inhalded
For about 3 weeks I looked like I had the owrst case of the herps on my face
So again keep it up.
You can dot it!

Quitting smoking is easy. Trick is to not start again.

Myself I decided to quit before I got started. It just doesn't have enough effects to keep me interested.

Edited by: Micheal Dietrich on 16/11/2009 18:42:30 I've been cigarette free since early June now, although I do stick to a pipe. The differences are that I don't wake up coughing up a lung every morning now, I don't wheeze all the time. I breath better and more importantly I don't constantly feel like ****. I don't even bring the pipe for work as I can go for days without it as opposed to after 2 hours on the dot I was willing to kill for a smoke break. My new truck doesn't smell like an ash tray (The only time I use my pipe in the truck is on long distance drives, never local). And yes it has been far cheaper. I can buy a bag of tobacco for like $12 and it lasts me for almost 2 months whereas I was easily $30 a week on cigs. That's about $120 a month and $1440 a year. This is one vice I am glad to be rid of.
Smoking doesn't just hold you up but anyone associated with you as well. It's like the OP said, before any big event you want to head off for a smoke, which means all of your non smoking friends are waiting for you to get back. unless you smoke in the house which is just plain nasty as you get ash everywhere and the tar stains the walls yellow.

Major kudos to you bro, let us know how you get on. Are you going cold turkey, or using nicotine-replacement stuffs (patches, gum, etc) to help? Wish you all the best of luck. -------------

While I applaud those of you who are NOT smoking cigarettes anymore, I daresay the rest of you are just making it worse
My dad's been smoking since he was around my age, probably a little younger (17 or 18). He's 39 now...
I wish he would stop. I don't want to inherit his estate when I'm 25..

not had a replacement patch or anything like that i don't see the point in trying to fool yourself by replacing one nicotine source with another.
in my workplace we have a 7 chef brigade i and the head chef are the only 2 who don't smoke. the rest all go for little 5 minute breaks for smokes.
now i get to go home when the gaffer does cause we don't have the breaks so they get left to clean up mwhahahahaha.
and no your not making me crave cigarettes when you want a cigarette look at me

I tried smoking waaay back when I was a tweenager when me and a buddy stole an unfiltered Pall Mall from his dad. Needless to say a couple of deep drags and the resultant projectile vomiting was all that was needed to make me tobbacco free for life.

I quit smoking nine years ago. I still get the occasional craving but have never had so much as had a puff since I quit. Its hard to do but going cold turkey is really the only way to quit. Congrats to all who have quit and are still off them as it can be hard but the health and wallet benefits really do make a difference in your life. If you've gone back on don't despair, it took me 3 years to quit from the day I decided to quit so it's doable. You just need a hell of a lot of willpower. And to the pipe smokers seriously guys, stop trying to derail these people from quiting. Smoking is not cool whatever you smoke. TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TODAY IS A RED DAY TODAY IS A DAY OF DEATH |
