I was wondering what advice I can get on logistic ships, how often they are taken in a fleet? Also I'm curious as to which logistic ship is found to be most effective? I am more partial to the Guardian but not dead set, it is between it and the Gallente Oneiros. But I am open to suggestions. I'm still new to EVE and I have been reading up on things but now I'd like some actual player feedback and not the EVE wiki. I am planning far out right now seeing as how with EVE it seems better to plan ahead than by the seat of your pants.
Thanks!

The Oneiros and the Scimitar are the Armor / Shield pair that rely on their own Cap to fly around and do repairs etc...
The Guardians and Basilisks are used in pairs or larger logistic teams cause their cap transfer bonuses, when chained between them, produces nearly unlimited amounts of cap that allows them to run more Large Reppers for longer or even "forever" without capping out.
The Scimitar is the fastest of em all, and with decent skills it can be quite cap stable with 2-3 large shield transfers while running it's MWD to speeds rivaled only by Vaga/Stabber hulls. Roaming gangs with Scimitar support is VERY effective, while the chained Guardians and Basilisks are left for bigger/heavier gangs. Since most BS gangs are armored tanked, Guardians are way more common than Basilisks.
Oneiros is the less utilized of em all, but still more effective than a guardian if the only logistic in a gang.
Keep in mind that Logistics lvl 4 and the relevant remote repper skill at 4 is barely passable as adequate...good logistic pilots go for Logistics lvl 5 ASAP. Join the Biggest Greek Corp! www.Mythos-eve.com - Join Mythos Channel in game! |

Okneerose is fail and should be avoided
The other three are pretty cool but need to be used in pairs or groups to be really effective. They are a huge force multiplier and will cause massive tears if used correctly.

Some will say fit ECCM, but ECM ships are few and far between now in PVP and apart from the scorpion they are all short ranged and thus instantly melted.

If you're new to EVE make sure you understand that 'forcing' yourself into a support role right away will get you bored at some point, so if you don't have other (pvp) options right now I probably wouldn't train up for a logistics, you have to pay for the ships and you'll want something to do when there's no fleets around.
Having said that there's 2 of the 4 that perform really well in combat; the Guardian fits snugly in an armour/RR BS fleet (which happens a lot in 0.0), I like it better than the Oneiros. The other one is the Scimitar which is fantastic in roaming small gang/hac/recon stuff. It's fast, has a decent tank and reps just nicely. I prefer it over the Basilisk which (per usual with caldari ships) lacks the speed and versatility, it's great for POS/station repping though.
I'd figure out which kinds of fleets you'd want to be with (or are asked to be with); slow BS fleets or fast/hyper small stuff and choose the logistics based on that and once you have proper skills for it, train the other one

Logistics, as with everything else, is based on composition and trend.
Scimitar: Cruiser - BC shield gangs Basilisk: BC - BS shield gangs
Oneiros: Cruiser - BC armor gangs Guardian: BC - BS armor gangs
Using that overview you can easily see that two of the ships are more popular and why. Shield-tanked BS gangs are uncommon and so are Armored HAC gangs. That doesn't mean they don't exist at all though, or that the Oneiros or Basilisk would be bad ships. They are just untrendy. Yet the alliances that experiment with Armored HACs have put the Oneiros to good use, and the same goes for heavier shield gangs (even if that doesn't necessarily imply shield-tanked BS, but rather larger BC / CS gangs) and Basilisks.

I think the Oneiros is underrated, personally. If you fit it like a Scimitar (shield tank, 1 ECCM, cap mods and grid mods in the lows) you end up being able to fit a LSE and 4x large reps, and be, like a similar Scimitar fit (that needs a cap recharger instead of the LSE), cap-stable with the MWD+3 reps running or all 4 reps. It's also harder to jam (39 sensor strength) than a Scimitar or Guardian (33.3 and 37.2, respectively).
What this adds up to is that I'm getting the sense that unless you either need Guardians to supply cap to other ships instead of just to each other, I'd rather have the Oneiros. It's faster, harder to jam, and if you do jam it you don't break the infinite cap chain like you would if you were in a Guardian.
The advantage of the Guardian of course is that since you CAN do the infinite cap deal with it, you can put 5 reps on it and be cap-stable receiving (and giving out) one cap transfer (assuming both/all pilots in the chain have Logisics V) or if they're newer logistics pilots with only level IV, you can put 2 cap transfers on the guardian and still get 4 armor reps worth of repping, whereas a logistics IV Oneiros would struggle.
The big disadvantage of the Oneiros, I think, is that it works best with a shield tank, so unless you're running a mixed logistics gang (which I've seen done), other logistics won't be repping you as efficiently.
For reference, this is the Oneiros fit I mentioned:

Oneiros works wonders for small Armor tanking gangs... add its flight of light drones to the mix and you get to ninja yourself onto kill mails as well :)

... and get yourself aggression locked and popped at gates too :) If you want to be on the KMs, take something else. However, it IS acceptable to get onto the last kill when it is obvious you are no longer in any imminent danger - in which case you should have 4 medium repping drones and a single Warrior II (in a Scimmy).

In a small gang where you are the only logi you should be flying around at range as sitting on the gate doesn't really work without multiple logistics as you have to jump out too soon against a capable enemy. The onerious is not as good at this as the scimmy but with the right gang(ie armor tanked close range gank boats to heavy tackle all potential threats to the logi) it does its job very well. Its plenty fast enough and has the light drones to scare off tackle frigs.
Its more situational than the other logis but it's great when you make a gang that makes the most of its strengths.

with the AoE gone from titans, afterburners(+heat) are being used more and more already, especially on the basilisk as it's caldari-typically slow - and big. basically it gets overrun by battlecruisers already.

i know i know, sok will happily dwell on the fact it's using cap charges but you really don't need all that much; true, logi IV is a bit of a pain but on logi V you could actually run 2 transporters without munching charges. if you still decide to perma-mwd and use heat, those 13+1 charges (18+1 with navy charges) will last >300 seconds and result in the destruction of your transporters long before your charges run out. there's one rig slot left; even a cargo rig may make sense but i can recommend a warp speed rig if your gang uses fleet warps to cov ops alts a lot; logis are the only t2 cruiser without 3.75au/s. for longer trips, have your lens-switching zealots bring more cap charges -.-
and then there's this weird scimitar-wannabe

can recommend extender rig. but it's neither as small as the scimi nor as light. and it has to fly with other scimitars obviously - putting the gist back into logistics |

Well I'm sorry, only been in a whole lot of great 'snipe hac with logistics support' fights lately, and if you're fighting 50+ and travelling a whole lot of jumps, cap injectors just don't cut it.
I have tried the basilisk + AB but it simply lacks speed to close and make range, and burn back through bubbles.

Edited by: Golith Brimstone on 18/11/2009 00:07:35 Well currently I'm not trained in any Minmatar ships, currently I just have training in Gallente frigs and Caldari frigs and cruisers.
Right now the Corp I am in doesn't have a full fleet going on, I'm looking at a distant goal. Right now our Corp is still new players working their way up to bigger and better things. It seems like the Scimitar is the best choice for me. But then again it would seem that any logi ship would be an asset in a small group.

Advantage of oneiros is that when there are already 2 scimis in mixed small gang for example, you can shield tank it and provide armor logistics while being aided by the scimis yourself (or basis).
