I wanted to talk to you about Moon, the sci-fi film directed by Duncan Jones and starring Sam Rockwell.
It had a very limited release, and had a budget of just five million dollars but dear lord is it a great movie. It was inspired by the late 70s and 80s sci-fi such as Silent Running, Outland and Alien.
It's out on DVD and i'm sure it will become a cult hit.
So check it out. ----------------------------------- New Eden Chronicles: Prime, Fanfest 2010 |

I love sci-fi and I like movies/games/whatever that are a bit different and put in a lot of detail but Moon, for some reason, didn't do it for me. Just as I wasn't sold on District 9. The teasers where better than D9 itself heh.

There was some great people working on it from the music to the design to the CGI. It used models like the good old days of sci-fi with a nice blend of computer effects to make the models look for realistic. It was an inspired hybrid of effects. ----------------------------------- New Eden Chronicles: Prime, Fanfest 2010 |

I like 2001: A Space Odyssey. I like the trailer. I like sci fi (or else I wouldn't be here). I can't wait to see this movie. Don't try to attempt to torrent it, because some ****ty girl-movie called New Moon popped up. It's got 'Moon' in it yes.

Meh, the whole goddamn "plot" can be figured out by the time he gets to his clone. Its not very sci-fi.

Not sure what your definition of sci-fi is, but it obviously is not a very solid one
Just being able to figure out the plot does not disqualify any movie form any genre.

Sure, the plot *was* pretty obvious.
For me the enjoyment wasn't in the plot, it was in the atmosphere, the setting and the cinematography - the actual *art* of the movie.
The presentation and the filming was simply stunning.

Having treated myself to high doses of Tarkovskij and Bergman (and some Tarr), I found the visuals of Moon to be good on a commercial scale, but otherwise fairly bland.
Okay, I'm measuring to the absolute high points of cinematogarphy here, but still, I had the same feeling as with D9: "people consider this <hyperbole>?"

There's only been about 2-3 sci-fi movies made in the past 5 years or something. Needless to say I was pretty excited about it.
I loved it, but I think I expected too much of it, it wasn't quite as engaging as I expected. Still, a nice piece of work.
We need more real science fiction. I'm sick of action and romance and fantasy movies being called 'science fiction' while us sci-fi fans sit around bored waiting for a sci fi film to come out.
