Quote: This is why the changes to Motherships/Supercarriers are being deferred and won't go out in Dominion 1.0. We're going to continue to play test both internally and on our public test servers. We're going to continue to talk to players. We're going to follow the yellow brick road and we're going to find the unique role these ships fill which will hopefully make the largest number of people happy.
why didn't they jsut say this to us in the dev blog? everyone has been asking what will happen to the feedback, and they haven't said a word. here they make it sound like they just want to continue the feedback cycle with the playerbase before releasing the changes...
sure didn't sound that way in the dev blog.
silly cpp, always giving out more info to other sites before us :P
anwyas, it's a good article, and I for one am .. as happy as can be with the changes. Maybe not the best expansion, but the game is still getting better.
edit: remember everyone asking if ccp wanted 0.0 to be more profitable than high sec level 4 missions and they haven't said a word yet? well...
Quote: The income however isn't being increased much over what players can get from level 4 mission in the initial point release so we don't expect a massive exodus of people out of empire space or a massive change in the influx of money or resources
there you go, the goal is not have players leave high sec.

For players to leave high sec there has to be a reason. At the moment there is none. ISK is not a good reason even if they quadrupled it. They have to change the play style which Dominion may do (hard to say though)
I sometimes think CCP say too much. I do not know any other game company that does anything except present a change on patch day and ignore feedback. CCP get shot down when they are mid development and receive a lot of abuse most companies would simply not tolerate on their employees.
I hope they do not spend too much valuable time dealing with Moms and when they do it they just do it and stop this endless wrangling and discussion. The status quo is not a clever place to be and helps no one. Maybe when players grasp the new Sov mechanics after a few months would be the best time to revisit it.

fastest QFT ever.
also on that note, I can't think of any other mmors that let you freely play with expansions 2-3 months ahead of time.

I'm trying to more aggressively enter 0.0 and conduct business but ISK isn't always a factor for why people don't leave high-sec. It's just that learning curve of avoiding getting podded instantly for travelling around 0.0. As simple as that. Even if more ISK were to be made you have people in high-sec who don't know how to make it without getting shot down in half a sec. -- autechre - ep7 - track 1: rpeg estevancarlos.com |

I put the important part in bold text.
Initial.
To remind you, the Exodus expansion was actually meant to push players out of empire/low sec and into 0.0.
I mean, I guess maybe you didn't watch the fanfest videos (or go yourself), but CCP itself said that the expansion did the opposite of what they wanted BECAUSE of level 4's.
The goal is still to have players move on, but they are concerned that if its done to abruptly, the people who fear change would just quit the game instead of trying something new.

The primary feature in Dominion is the change to Sovereignty which effects "end game" players...
I could be wrong but, can't anyone with at least 5-10mil sp technically go to sov? Why should it be considered end game? I thought a good aspect of EVE was that it was sandbox and had no defined end game. Maybe its this kind of mind set that stops players (like me) from moving out there. I'd like to but if I will still have to make money through high sec just to play in an open pvp zone then whats the point?
Like I mentioned in the previous answer, any time we touch aspects of the game that our most hardcore players use there will be clashes of opinion.
I think most the player base would consider themselves pretty hardcore, not just the people hanging out in null sec. Again, its all about incentive. If there is no incentive to go to a null sec zone, then people wont go.
Everyone that signs up for EVE knows or should know they are signing up for a pvp game.
I can't imagine anyone who can honestly say that they LIKE to run missions. I really do hope that it is realized that when people run them they are doing them for the incentive and I think that most people would much rather be pvping or doing anything else. This is the vicious cycle... "Well the majority of players run missions, so we should cater to them." The truth is the majority of players running missions are only doing so for reasons that eventually lead them to pvp.

If they gave more entry points to 0.0 then I would expect more people to move into 0.0. Today with bubbles, dictors, fast locking webbefier ships and what not, people are discouraged because the odds are against you. If the game had been like it was back in exodus I would expect more people to if not move out, then at least venture into 0.0. Its not about being risk free either, just make it so that entering a system thats camped wont mean instant death.

Getting into 0.0 isn't that hard. Back when I was a noob I made my first 100 mil hauling zydrine into Providence in an warp-stabbed tormentor.
Not all entrypoints to 0.0 are camped or even paid attention to. It's not even hard to find out which ones are or aren't (map filters).

why do ships always need a unique role and why can they just be usable.

what stops you is fear. Fear of death. You are scared that you will get blown up and lose everything. You're scared you'll run out of ammo, supplies, or whatever and not make it back.
You and thousands of others. Scare of what is currently a vast, open deserted wasteland.

About your last quote, that's called 'selective' quoting, where you quote half of the explanation, and leave out the other. So let me finish off the quick rest. Once you upgrade your system, say for example your military to lvl 4. This means you get 16 'dungeons' you can cycle through that have large rats, with a possibly side dish of faction rats. So once you get the ball rolling it's much nicer. (A bit more fun too I might add.)
