The exploration tutorial told me i could mine gas clouds and make drugs that i could take/sell. Can someone fill me in on the process? How can i mine them, how can i produce them, etc... can anyone give me more info on this?
-can hacking give you drug blue prints?
How do you get drug blueprints to produce etc...?
How hard is it to get into the drug making profession as a new player?

Gas sites in exploration are either:
- Gas clouds, which you can mine using a Gas harvester (keep in mind Gas clouds explode and do damage your ship). - Gas production plants, in there you will find resources and/or drug blueprints.
Blueprints might also be for sale on contracts.
To produce Drugs you need a low-sec POS with a drug manufacture facility on it. And of course the blueprint and materials to build the drugs. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. It's pretty tough for a new player. The tutorial kind of lies about that... well, not really a lie, but it leaves a LOT of information out.
You need the skill Gas Cloud Harvesting to harvest clouds, as well as Gas Cloud Harvesting modules. Each rank of the skill allows you to mount one harvester module (for a max of five). The skill is pretty expensive (around 20M-25M ISK). You also probably want to be flying at least a cruiser because the harvested gas takes up a lot of cargo space.
Once you've got the skills covered, you need to scan in certain regions/constellations for Ladar sites. You can find Ladar sites in some hi-sec regions, but the clouds you can find in Hi-Sec are only useful for making Synth drugs (the much less powerful versions of the drugs). In low-sec you can find the "real deal" clouds to make hardcore boosters.
One of the biggest challenges for a new player is that drug production can only be done in Lo-Sec. While Synth boosters are legal to carry and use in Hi-Sec, they inexplicably can only be made in a POS with a drug lab. Unfortunately, they can only be anchored in 0.3 or lower space.
You can get most of the blueprints from low-sec radar sites. I'm pretty sure you can purchase some of them from the LP stores of some of the pirate factions as well. The easiest way in to drug production is probably joining a player run drug cartel, which isn't an easy task as they tend to be pretty insular.
From a prospective drug lord to another, good luck! Neut the bastards |

ive always liked oddball professions, hacking being one of them and now that i find drugs can be player made well.... drugs! :D
I didn't think it would be that hard to produce them since the tutorial makes them sound so simple, mine it, make it, profit.
I guess ive been mislead alot with the profession tutorials in the game... maybe the devs should consider changing that. Luckily this game's community is very helpful and informs people the direction they need to take and fill in the gaps. Shame... i was excited about drug production...
I read somewhere they plan to make implants player-made that would be a cool profession to get into... maybe i can work on that as a perma profession when its released.. Hopefully it won't have a steep learning curve and since it will be new maybe more info will be given as to how they can be manufactured.
I guess for now ill stick to hacking.
Thanks everyone for your help! |

I'm not that up on the economic impact it would have, but it seems like CCP could allow certain NPC stations to have production slots for synth drugs without it being gamebreaking. It would at least give someone a taste of drugmaking without killing the primary core of the industry: hardcore drugs. Neut the bastards |

You could. There's no reason you can't. I'm not sure that you would want to, though - not for the sake of drug manufacturing, anyway.
It's an extremely low-demand market and, imo, more trouble than it's worth. You can expend much (muchmuchmuch) less effort producing other items that will be profitable and have a turnover rate of more than a few units per day.

Define not much Petrus
With current fuel block prices a large tower cost about 500mil to fuel / month. Med 1/2 of that, Small 1/4. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Well, you can have your 'own' POS in low sec by starting up an alt who has their own one person corporation. Use one of your two other character slots.
All this alt would need would be anchoring skills, and the corp management skills. They might need some standing with the faction where the POS will be anchored, but probably not a lot in low-sec. I think you can even buy some corporations that already have high faction standings.
As others have pointed out though, there isn't a lot of money in drugs. Not enough customers, not enough interest. A POS in low-sec is at risk of being attacked/ removed too.
You'd probably be better off to start off with a POS in high-sec for researching BPOs. There are a shortage of research slots in high sec, so research slots are always in high demand. Plus, no one can attack your expensive POS in high sec without a war dec first, which gives you twenty four hours to take it down.
Since you are in a corporation, see if you can get your corporation interested in investing in a high-sec POS. Let them fund it and you can have a hand in helping them maintain it. Invest in some blueprint originals for making drugs, then research and sell them. This would be a good way to get your feet wet. Researched BPOs or even Blueprint copies are a better money maker than drugs.
Also, try taking drugs before you start making them. Boosters are for combat applications, so learn what boosters are better in what situations, and where they might sell. That's another way to get into the drug making industry, and find out who the manufacturers are as well as the customers.

Drug manufacturing is an advanced specialization of mining/industry, essentially. It's not really very friendly to new players for basically the same reasons that a new player focusing on mission-running probably doesn't want to focus on incursions and a new player focusing on PvP doesn't want to focus on capital ship fights.
Do the lower-"level" version of the activity first, i.e. mining asteroids to make ammo or something. Don't go for drugs until you've got the experience with infrastructure and so on to pull it off. |

My Alliance, Hedonistic Imperative, specializes in Drug production. Maybe you can apply to one of those corps to get access to people who have experience in this specialized field, and have POS to make drugs.
Alliance Web site: http://hedonisticimperative.enjin.com/ You might be able to get some information by posting your questions on their public forum.
DonGÇÖt apply to my Corp though. We are just the muscle. We donGÇÖt do lab work |
