Edited by: bruja muerte on 23/11/2009 05:22:27 discovered my eve account hacked and everything gone, ISK, assets, weekend =( was wondering if anyone who has had this happen before could answer any questions. i petitioned it, but i am wondering what my chances are of getting what was taken back? i do not use third party programs, i do not click on links or ever share my account info, i really have no idea how it happened. any one have any ideas on that? i am devastated, but luckily i still have my toon. i apologize for my ignorance, but could it most likely have been something eve related? a virus of some sort from somewhere else? so far it has only affected my eve account and i am in the midst of wiping my comp and changing passwords. also a general question: can key logger programs or viruses go through routers? (if that question even made sense) i appreciate any info or shared experiences from others and will laugh at all your flames =)and no you can't have my stuff, there is nothing left ='(

Holy wall of text...
Here's what you should do...
1. Fix your wall of text, there's paragraphs you know? 2. Petition to CCP, they'll give everything back. 3. Virus scan, remove any program you don't trust, they may have a key logger.

Sorry to hear this Bruja. As a former corpmate of yours i hope you get back on your feet asap. My advice - DO NOT click on ANY links posted on these forums. If you see the CCP warning don't click the link. All it takes nowadays is to open a killboard link or the most common one for lowlife hackers are picture links. Good luck with your petition and if you ever need a chat give us a shout and i'll invite you to our corp freinds chat in game. All the best Bruja. Good luck. Saul. Edit - Also check your contracts history. Whoever hacked your account must of transfered the assets and isk to another toon (probably a new character the scumbag just created). If you find the contracts take screenies of all the dodgy transactions and add them to your petition.

to be honest using a different computer to browse the net (read forums) and play the game helps a lot against this bots.

I feel ya, this account of mine was hacked also.
They sold everything I had, podded me twice (Lost Battleship 5) then proceeded to use the character for the transfer of bought isk. Finally they tried to sell this character on the forums.
I tried to login to find i was perma-banned, I sent in a petition thru the website and they lifted the ban. I sent in a second petition and they were able to replace my implants and skillpoints but none of my assets.
I am pretty sure my account was simply brute force hacked, I ran all the virus scans suggested by CCP support and didn't see anything that would have keylogged.
Sorry to hear this happened to you also but it sounds like a bunch of peoples accounts were hacked this way.

I am concerned this is not a random event. I am very disappointed to find my sons EVE account has been hacked as well over the weekend. For a young lad who does not have much money and who has worked hard within the game to get ships and ISK it is frustrating to have the potential of loosing everything.
First he new about it was when he logged on to Eve to find his account was suspended by CCP pending investigations. How did CCP know his account had been hacked? They suspended his account before he found out and had time to report it? CCP suggested that someone must have used a key logger on his computer, however having built the computer and maintained it for him with a high level of protection I am not so sure.
Is this problem more widespread than we think or is there an inherent security issue with EVE accounts?

I was wondering if more people had this happen very recently. They may have banned his account without him knowing because of suspicious activity or maybe the person who hacked it was selling ISK or something. Bruja's account has been temporarily banned while they look into the transactions and try to figure it out. I am hopeful that she will be able to get back into the game very close to where she was ISK wise. I do know she is quite concerned about the assets though as more than a bil in assets alone was transferred sold or whatever.

My sons account was only temporary ban whilst CCP investigated and indeed he has recently received notice he can access the account again. The isk has been returned but I am assuming in the absence of any ships etc he now has to appeal to get them returned as well. I would love to get to the bottom of this and for CCP to formally respond over hacking issues, it was only a short while ago that a hacked CVA account created headline news.

To the OP: you can be hit by a keylogger simply by visiting a website that contains keylogger which exploits a vulnerability for your web browser. No, firefox+no script+adblock does NOT make you 100% immune to all viruses and trojans out there. Some websites contain advertisements which use these exploits, so you have to be careful.
For almost all routers out there - YES, keyloggers CAN go through a router. If it originates on your side of the router, the keylogger is not blocked in any way what so ever. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |

If you have them networked, you might still be in trouble, as another strategy that hackers use is to turn one computer into a "zombie" and try to infect all other computers on the network via OS exploits. ---------- There is always a choice. pron comp is wiped at end of day... mabe not soon enough but heck havn't had problems yet, I once had an email from the other computer to the game computer that i hadn't sent. it only happened once but it was probably related to the zombie comp thing. after the first time it never happened again (probly because of the daily wiping i do. anyway reader beware, i am not safe doing this and should actually not look at **** all day I see you 'Cause you won't get outa' my way I hear you 'Cause you won't quit screamin' my name I feel you 'Cause you won't stop touchin' my skin |

It really is sad that you have to obtain hacking skills these days just to get basic protection from them against things like this.

Is it possile to change your forum password to any other password apart from your main eve-account password? This would probably solve a lot of keylogger issues

Seems even after the "wii secks toy" links have been blasted, hacking, particularly of older players, seems to be only increasing. Some sort of formal response from CCP on what they will and will not replace would be nice, tho tbh not replacing everything is pretty ****ty of them, especially on top of a suspension while they sort out the issues.
Maybe CCP knows what the problem(s) are and are just being mum about it. If it were people here and there, i could believe it was them downloading bad ****. When its older (as in 5+ year old players) who know what theyre doing, methinks its a bigger (as in, out of the player's hands) issue.
Good luck getting it straightened out, OP.

Sons hacked account update -:
1. Estimated 800 mill isk missing. 2. All ships and equipment sold off and only a bestower left. 3. All standings gone, I am assuming reset to neutral by CCP. 4. Looking at trading history account was used for mass purchases of implants in Jita and hacker was caught trading isk for cash. 5. 20 mill+ skill points safe atm. We have run extensive tests on computer for keylogging / spyware issues but nothng found.
Petitioning started last night to get everything back to normal

Your not alone, a friend of mine in corp had his account hacked on Monday, luckily he caught them half way through so he didn't lose any standing's or SP, but he found himself in Jita with no money, no assets, nothing.
This seems like a bit too much of a coincidence.
