There have been lots of people with ideas for new T3 ships, so I thought I would toss mine out there. Many have posted admiration over the concept of having a T3 variant of larger ship hulls than a cruiser, an idea that I think would be a little silly when considering that T3 cruisers are already flirting with being overpowered. I think that adding at T3 variant of a smaller ship class would limit the chance of it having no predators as well as filling some roles that have been neglected for some time. As it stands, T1 destroyers seem like they would be the ship of choice for suppressing frigate ships, however that doesn't seem to hold true on the field. Frigates can not only outrun a destroyer but they can tank it as well. A T3 destroyer could have 3 subsystem slots (keeps it affordable and appropriately modest for it's size) and be capable of either helping or hurting smaller ship classes.
One role could be a damage-dealing frigate eater with excellent ability to apply damage to small, fast targets. Maybe even give them bonuses to smartbombs.
Another role could be one that supports frigates as a logistics ship that is small, fast and would mesh nicely with frigate gangs. There are deadspace remote repair modules already in the game that see more use in contract scams than they do in combat, which seems like wasted potential to me.
The last role that seemed interesting would be a fleet support (or possibly mass hysteria) role. As a Caldari pilot I wish there were more ships with a bonus to the ECM Burst module since it is very capable of wreaking havoc on things like logistics chains and alpha-damage based fleets. Unfortunately I can't think of an equivalent module for other races, but a small and fast ship with mass disruption abilities would certainly find a home in large fleet engagements that are most often decided by whoever is able to put the most hulls on the field.
I will admit that this is a relatively unrefined idea and that T3 ships are probably the most difficult to balance, but that's my 2 cents. |

I don't see it happening. One of the devs have said if there are going to be new T3 ships, it'll be battleships. All I hear is goons this and goons that, it's like you people are the villiagers from goons village. |

Yes, but I haven't seen T3 battleships happen either, and if they did happen I think they would be absurdly overpowered. If a cruiser-sized T3 can have the EHP of a carrier and the speed of a cruiser, imagine what a battleship version would be capable of. It would either break PvP or be vastly inferior to T3 cruisers.
Besides, the larger ship classes already have a good support structure. Frigate/destroyer centered combat has E-war frigates (as gimped as they are) and... yeah that's pretty much it. Cruiser sized logistics boats can't hang with the smaller ship gangs because they are slower and a much easier target to bring down. A little destroyer sending out reps while being able to speed/sig tank? +1 sex appeal in my opinion. |

The first thing you'd have to do is to introduce a whole bunch of new T1 and T2 destroyers that would be "specialized" in what you mentioned. Unfortunately devs are too slow. |

Frankly there should be no new T3 ships of a variety smaller than a cruiser ( Nevermind something as poppable as a Destroyer. You'd be retraining the skills daily ). A T3 ship needs to have some semblance of longevity to really work out well. Although frankly new T3 ships in general are kind of a bad idea due to the amount of balance problems they introduce ( Many of which are still unresolved with T3 Cruisers ). They were an experiment that didn't pan out so well and I imagine CCP is reluntant to add anymore.
T3 probably should have been just on battleship hulls to begin with. |
