What's it like? So tempted...
I played one level on Easy, it was actually challenging (I was getting back into it, and I played the demo). The physics used to make wounds on zombies depending on where you shoot them and with what is beautiful. I like using an axe and looking at the giant gash in a zombies chest with blood squirting out. Each of the special infected are unique and best part, not so overly hard. each one has a quirk to killing it.
The Defib is a great tool to have, no doubt, being able to res a teammate before a tank fight can save your hide. The boomer vile grenade is the most hilarious, throwing it on a tank or other common infected and watch them chase each other.
The textures on each of the zombies have darkened exponentially, and it is sometimes hard to tell the difference at distance between the zombies, so you'll have to go by ques in the soundtrack or vocals.
I played only one game, so I'm no judge, nor am I a critic. We'll see if it was worth it, but I'm glad even if it wasn't, it was a good 25% less of a hit on my wallet, and it is christmas. ________________________________________________

l4d 2 is brilliant fun IF you play with friends, if you end up playing on public servers its not so good, people dont tend to work as a team like you need to if you want to survive

Okay, my mental erection is over. I couldn't resist so I've just bought the THQ pack. Damn, seems to be a real good collection.
Also bought Trine for 10 Euros.
I was tempted to buy Dead Space but then I remembered the frustration of playing it throguh for the first time on Box. Awesome game and certainly deserves one playthrough but there's no way I'm doing it again. Can't wait for the second instalment.

With all us Eve-ers picking up all these games, we should try and get some MP action goin'. Add me for some L4D2, TF2 or Borderlands type shenanigans. -------------

Edited by: Brayiel on 29/11/2009 16:08:40 Eve is now ú3.74 on Steam, so if you get the 14 day trial, can you purchase the game and simply upgrade your account after 3 weeks to a full account with a free months sub?

Yes, except that 14 days is two weeks, not three I'm tempted to get it just to have it on steam to make future re-installs a little more painless. -------------

Everyone should buy this game, its just pure genius. For that kind of money not buying it should be a crime.

Aye I got confused, there is a 14 day normal trial going round and the steam 21 day trial I think it was conformed in the other thread that you could use the 21 day trial and upgrade to a full account getting the first month free.

Agreed World of Goo is an incredible buy, even if its gameplay was bad it would still be worth buying for its inspired musical score.

You could train a char to be a cyno alt and then sell it for ISK. Wouldn't that work? Then buy PLEX.

Total steam noob here... Do you have to pay subsciption fees just to continue to have access to games you purchased? I get it if you are playing eve and other games that already charge subsciption fees.
Take for example if I bought that THQ pack with a boatload of games in it... Would I have to pay a monthly fee to continue to access those games on any computer or would I have able to access them for free indefinately? or at least until the rapture.

If the game you buy is some kind of MMO or subscription based game you will need to pay any subs to keep playing the game after the time packaged in the deal expires, if its a normal game like the ones in the THQ pack or something like L4D2 you do not need to pay anything extra as the steam client is free.
You do need to carefully keep your steam account info though as all games will be tied to the account you purchased them on, once you have games on your account you can download them as many times as you want or need for no extra fees (unlike some digital purchase services )

Follow up question as I'm scouring the steam site for all info, I can probably get an answer get much faster. The subsciption fees will be prominently displayed prior or during purchase I guess? The only subsciption game I saw was FFXI and I didnt see a clearly displayed fee or notation.

I couldn't tell you tbh I have never bought a sub based game from steam but I'm guessing once you buy the game from steam any account management after would be via the games developer, like if you bought EVE you would get the steam deal and then once the 30 days is over you would have to pay CCP via credit card or plex.
It probably depends on the game you buy as to how the subs are managed either via credit card or game time codes via 3rd parties.

I don't think Steam displays the monthly subscription pricing during the process. When you buy an MMO on there, like Eve, PotBS or CoH, you get a month free a key to create a new, full account and the game added to your Steam games list.
Beyond installing it from there however, updates to MMOs are thru the game client. Also you need a seperate account, like your Eve-O account for the game. I purchased CoH two days back when it was on offer just to get it inmy steam list. I gave the key to a friend who also subs to get the freebies and log in as I did before. -------------
