Put the word right into my mouth. Will we be able to access our mail from seperate computers?
Yes, they are stored locally only so you are not querying the server over and over each time you want a mail. They will still be stored on the server, and the missing eve-mails will be downloaded only if they havent been downloaded before. It increases the access time for mails, and allows for third-party programs to read them (Thunderbird plug-in anyone?)from your hard drive locally.
So Yes, your mails will always be available to you, after a re-install, or on a separate computer. - MinerPewPew - Director - Ruthless Aggression - EPIDEMIC

you should of made it visually appealing : (
it looks like the market window, and the contract window and the corp window and the contacts window.
the old mail system was 80 times worse, but it stuck out.(edit:ok not by much)
you once a long time ago the fitting window had the same look too... why don't you make the mail window look more like the new fitting window!
I hope you take this as real criticism, because I think things like, revamping the fitting window visually, are very important to the game.

It's certainly suboptimal as everyone can see the orders, but it works. The new mailing lists do not solve the problem of everyone being able to see all orders, but remove the ability to have bulletin posts with pricing information.
Yep, while the new client is great (oh god yes, no more application spam constantly!) over time, the current system has ended up being used for things like to-do, market and reference lists - things which aren't always tied to the corp/alliance.
As a couple of examples, we currently use two lists for our members to request roles/titles - all the info is there, and they post their request, and periodically, a director then reviews and applies them. Similarly, we have another list for handing out replacement ships, and both of these won't work with the new system.
We could move to some kind of forum thing, and the upgraded IGB helps with this, basically what we could really do with is something that works the same way as the old lists did - a central place which people can add and remove posts, like a shared mailbox.
Originally by: Lolion Reglo briliant. perhaps my alliance can get off our backs of posting mails and use the bulletin board to post important stuff...
Yep, the bulletin board is a really nice idea, and seems to be pretty well implemented. In fact, it could actually do with being on the login screen for the relevant character that's selected (like the news posts on the right) - right now, you pretty much have to go looking for it, and its bad enough getting people to read corp mail.
However, 10 posts up to 2000 characters long isn't all that much. Right now, I'd estimate we have something like 60-70 reference posts in our Corp and Alliance mailboxes, most of which hold private information. I'm not sure all of these can be cleanly boiled down to the core information, but again, the new IGB will help there.
Its a shame New Eden isn't going live along with Dominion - I'm guessing there's some new feature requests to add though...
Edit: Oh, yes, can we please have a way of automatically assigning labels to mails, based on sender, subject or content, as well as an archive function, so mails can totally skip the inbox? _____

u mad ? It is beyond hideous, Functionality wise its a bit lacking aswell. It just sorts stuff after some predefined criteria and if you would like you can add a few more.. whoodedoo. The main mail icon sticks out like a sore thumb now (done by the same guy who did the certificates icon im asuming) The mail UI is prety much some tables and 17 new icons
Overall it brings some new functionality while simultaniously managing to reduce its usefullness in an EVE context .. bravo

I don't really remember what it was before but I believe it's now 8000
Quote:
Is it correct that the mails won't be automatically labelled with the senders name?
That is correct, they are not automatically labeled. However, you can now sort by sender.
Quote:
Will we still be able to read the same mails on multiple computers? Or will they be removed from the server once fetched?
The mails are cached on your local disc but they are always stored on the server as well. Once you open your mail the client gets all the mail headers that are not on your machine already and stores them on your machine. So if you lose your local data or if you switch computers, your mail will be retrieved from the server again.
Quote:
Can we move evemails from the stored local folder out, and then back again, and see them in the game client?
Not sure why you would want to do that, but I guess you could. You can of course never read some other characters' mails in the client.

EEEEEEEEPP! I use more than one machine to be a part of EVE (currently three machines have the client on and might be used) so does this mean that if the mails are stored locally on one I can't read them / reply to them on another?
That would be bad ...

So we can wardec noob corps now?

Edited by: Irdalth Delrar on 01/12/2009 19:52:01 Edited by: Irdalth Delrar on 01/12/2009 19:51:16 I'm a bit worried about all this.
EDIT: removed content as CCP did respond, I just missed it.
Second, 10 bulletins. That's rather low, IMO. What if an emergency mail has to go out and all 10 bulletins are used or no one with the appropriate roles is on? Then someone sends out a corp/alliance mail. Great, everyone who is currently part of the corp can read it. If its not moved to a bulletin (if it can be) by the time someone else joins the corp/alliance, the new person never gets the message.
Over all, these seem like great ways to reduce server lag... at the cost of vital functions. Some of it is great, no doubt, specially personal mail... but the loss of corp/alliance functionality worries me. --------------------------------------- Irdalth Delrar Diplomatic Director Eve University <IVY>

Why is the Inbox tab the same as All Mails only without sent mails? Where did the old inbox go, the one with the mails addressed to you? This is a really bad change. I want to see my mails without being flooded with every mail from corp, alliance and mailing lists mixed together. That's what the All Mails tab is for. |

Hi, I can't send Evemail.
Whenever I try to write a new mail it does not open a visible window. I have to ctrl-tab to find the window and then when I tab to it it shows me an empty container with the header 'New message' and that's it.

This inbox would be a *LOT* better if mail received didn't ALL get dumped into our INBOX.
Corp mail should stay in corp mail. Not wander into Corp Mail *AND* Inbox. Mailing lists should stay in mailing lists. Not wander into Mailing List *AND* Inbox. etc. etc. etc.
If a mail comes into the system for ME to read, it should be in my Inbox. Nothing else should be in there. Why replicate the mail? Its annoying and hard to find messages when you got hundreds, AND you can't at least sort by the Type of mail its SUPPOSED to be.
Good attempt but REALLY needs to be worked on.

I find some similaries between the evemail system and my Blackberry, so I am used to have it like this. On BB I also have an inbox where everything lands (emails from all accounts, sms, icq etc). And I have sorted folders for all that stuff. I have no problems to handle it like that - if something new arrives, I see it in the inbox. If I only like to read new corp mails, I use the tab for it. I have to read any mail - this had been the same before Dominion where my evemail-icon flashes for every new mail until I read them.

I haven't heard of anyone else with this problem, and I have been trying to figure out what the problem is. If you have more than one characters, is this a problem for all of them? Is this a problem on this character you are posting from? If you could you please submit a detailed bug report (with screenshots and logs), that would help a lot.

It happens intermittently.
Yesterday I could send evemail, though it was a bit buggy. Like, right clicking somebody and sending evemail wouldn't always send it to THEM.
is what I get.
I'll bug report it.

I've been having issues with the current EVE mail system. The design is awesome, it's just the way it works at the moment. The obvious one that other people have mentioned is putting all your mail in your inbox. Another one that I've found to be a problem is that if you send a mail to a mailing list or corp/alliance, and somebody new joins the mailing list/corp/alliance afterwards, the new person won't get that mail or any of the previous mails. What I'd suggest is to remove the Inbox tag from all EVE mails other than ones sent specifically to you, have all the corp/mailing list mails download when a new person joins, and remove the ability to delete corp/alliance mails and mails in a mailing list you don't own. Basically the way it worked before. At the moment it's just made it harder for corporations/alliances to keep in touch with their members, for example yesterday I sent a corp wide mail to my corporation, and somebody decided they wanted to clear out their inbox. They ended up deleting the new corp mail and all the previous corp mails, with no way of getting them back.
