Edited by: Luna Nilaya on 03/12/2009 10:48:13 Now that we have awesome looking planets, it's a shame that you will always see them from a side when you warp to them, they're never above you or under you. The current login screen for example is very rare sight in eve. I don't mean that you should be able to choose the side. The warping spot should be different with every planet. -

yes
let us -orbit planets -create spots at any side of them
you should land on the proper side of the planet, depending of from which direction you warped there instead of always arriving at the same spot, regardless from where you warped there.
Give us some realistic mechanics for space navigation.

I hope you do realise that realistic space navigation also makes the planets move? Earth speed around the sun is some 29 000 Km/s.
How did you plan on actually catching the planet, or even the station orbitting the planet? Now try that for realism.

You misunderstand space... There are roughly how many objects in Earth orbit right now... couple thousand? How do they keep up with a planet traveling 29,000 km/s? Because they're being held by Earth's gravity well.. Same thing happens when you warp to a planet, you become caught in its gravity well, and enter an orbit around the planet. It shows up in EVE as the planet slowly turning. You also forget that everything is relative in space. If you set a safespot between planets, it may look like you're sitting still, but you're not, you're still orbiting the local primary (the star). You can fire your engines in the opposite direction of the orbit to slow down, but from your point of view, it will simply look like you're traveling in the opposite direction.
The reason they don't implement warping around objects instead of through them is that it would involve some kind of additional overhead in the system. May be as simple as a check for any object between point A and B, but that could be come difficult. Imagine yourself under attack, you manage to break away and need to warp out. You select the celestial body and it fail to warp, because something else is in the way...

Problem its that you want to explain EVE game mechanics based in real life phisisc and the two are very different. In EVE the planets dont move around at several thousands Km/s nor they have gravity. In their turn real life spaceships dont have warp drives nor the max velocity limited to a few hundred m/s.
Jemos has a point, EVE cannot always be realistical. Sometimes its not fun, sometimes its not technicaly viable and sometimes cause problems.

One simple solution would be to set the warp point at the center of each planet and when you warp to a planet, you simply warp lets say 10k km away from the center. Like warping (0 km) but you are forced to warp 10k km from it. Its that simple and you would always warp to a different point to each planet, depending of your start point.
Why do you always discuss about what is possible and what not instead of searching for solutions that work?

Rigth after people stop to just post a ideia and thinking it will magicaly become reality without devs work or possible causing other issues.
BTW your ideia need some adjustments, planets diameter are much bigger than 10km. Acordly with wikipeida Earth's average diameter is about 12,742 km. _

He said 10k km but yeah, some planets are 10 times that. Solution can be warping within planet diameter from planet center. That way you will be one planet radius away from surface.

And again you proved that critizizing ideas instead of searching for a solution is what you people do here. Use your brain and simply set a scale factor of lets say 2 times the planet radius or planet radius +5k km for the warp distance. Really sad that so many people here dont try to think.

Im just a player that like how this particular feature is now. Why should I search for 'solutions' for it? The only problem for me its possible wasted worktime of devs in something that have so low impact im my gameplay. Really sad that so many people try to think and fail.

My main issue was that you never warp under or over the planet, stay on topic. -

One option is to get an interceptor and fly around the planet in realtime, make a few bookmarks and start selling them on contract :)
