Trying to get EveHQ to help keep track of my towers, it seems that director or CEO roles are required in order to get fuel and silo status. This seems silly, especially since having the 'Starbase Fuel Technician' role already lets you query/take from fuel bays, just with the extra step of having to actually be there. Is there a historical reason for this, or just that nobody's said, "Hey, what gives" before?

Historicly, the API has not looked at fine-grain corp rights, just at director/ceo status. Changing that history would require effort that has been directed at other aspects of the API. This has been raised before, then dismissed as not being important enough to change.

Most of the corp APIs are like this. Also, there is nothing for silos in the API.

Just monitor fuel levels on a web page and give access to that to whoever you want. There, easy solution.

You can find out what is in your silos and how much via the API.

Through the asset API, yes. Problems with the asset API is there is no real good way to associate it with a tower and its only updated once a day.

Yeah, you've got to get the silo's itemID first.

And even then, it would potentially work if you have 1 or 2 towers in a system with only a few silos. But if you have more towers and a lot of silos, there is nothing linking the silos to wich pos they are anchored to. You have to do it manually.
It's possible if you have patience to anchor and link a few at a time but then, the pos api is updated only every 6 hours. And assets 24h. ------ This sig space is Read-only ! omgalink - Online Skillsheet |

Edited by: Aximag on 09/12/2009 02:02:21 As long as you don't unanchor a silo, a POS, or anything else, the itemID stays the same -- forever. So you only have to get the itemID once. I do it right after anchoring it. You can get it in game.

Sigh... but all this still boils down to the API requiring that you be either CEO or a director. In a small corp where everyone knows each other (or you're the only person there anyways), this isn't a big deal. In a large corp of hundreds, being given that level of trust simply isn't going to happen :(

This is why many corporations use pos-tracker
