Someone has seriously missed the point with Moondoggie.
I HAVE a great web browser OOG , I donĘt need one in game.
What I need from the IGB is a tool that integrates with the Game, thatĘs what makes it different, thatĘs what makes it useful. The really useful bits have been removed and replaced with superficial improvements. I can now make a page that looks better but does non of the things it used to be able to do that relate to EVE.
Can we please have back:
Drag and drop characters / items etc from game into forms.
Auto refresh on session change.
Asap.
Thanks

I agree. The new browser is a great browser, but a crappy EVE tool/platform/thingie. I've suggested putting the old browser back in alongside the new one as an interim solution.
The most urgently needed features for the browser team to tackle in order to bring the new browser up to a useful level are:
1) drag and drop 2) context menus
I would put auto refresh on session change as a distant number 3 on that list. You can get sorta close to the old behavior with timed refreshes.

1) drag and drop 2) context menus (or at least an alternate way to access those functions) 3) events (session change, trust change, etc.) 4) shellexec:// (or enable plugins) 5) support for html title/alt tags 6) http auth popup/javascript popups (confirm, alert, etc.) 7) ship typeID in trusted headers 8) option to stored login data

While I can obviously see the benefits of "Drag and drop characters / items etc from game into forms", please DO NOT go back to the old browser.
Being able to visit dynamic pages like dotlan's maps is so incredibly useful now. _____________________

Seeing that this is the first iteration I have a feeling CCP has bigger plans for it. But yeah a few more features for the IGB would be awesome.

Given CCP's recent about turn with the capitals I just wanted to have said "don't just put the old browser back" ... not that I think they would. _____________________

people would go nuts if they put the old browser back ... after showing off the new one on TQ I don't think there's any way of going back

1) if you drag and drop onto a text box/text area does it not work? 2) using javascript's CCPEVE.showInfo brings up an info window which from there you can set destination etc... 3) again, javascript's CCPEVE object does this... 4) don't know about shellexec:// seems like a security vulnerability to me. 5) works fine for me. Title and alt tags show up fine. Now that the browser is standards compliant, you might need to make sure your title and alt tags are on IMG tag, not anchor tags, etc. 6) Javascript messagebox popup works, I use it currently. window.open commands don't for security reasons. 7) current ship id would be nice, I'll second this one. 8) cookies work so therefore storing login data works too, I use it currently.

1) do your research before replying? 2) I know that but that's not what I asked for, thank you very much 3) you are the only one then to know how it does it. please do teach us 4) seems like you have no clue 5) I'll concede that, the specifications do not require it for anchors but I've gotten used to it since the major browsers support it 6) just retested it, confirm() does not work, but alert() actually does. EDIT: prompt() does not work either 8) I know that, but weren't you the one complaining about security issues just above? Keeping someone permanently logged in via a cookie is a huge security issue.

I don't see how using php_session combined with cookies is a security issue. A lot of sites have the "Remember Me" cookie functionality. ALT and TITLE attributes go on IMG tags, not Anchor tags as per HTML 4.0 and XHTML 1.0 specs so I would put them there. confirm() and prompt() popups are turned off, only alert() works atm. If you need to prompt your user for action using confirm() you can easily do that using DHTML instead. HTTP auth popups are disabled and shouldn't be used anyway. Develop your own login system using a database or flatfile system and use a form for username and password like everyone else. To track events in the IGB for trusted/not trusted all you need to do is look at the headers. If HTTP_EVE_TRUSTED = false, fire an event for that, it's basic programming concepts here. Same for if a session expires. Hell, you can even use AJAX to do a trusted lookup by using javascript to hit a backpage that looks for trusted header and if not found the javascript function can fire an event. It's easy. You can also force a trust by adding a header to your response like (php example) header("eve.trustme:http://someurlhere.com");
Half the things you listed are still doable in Awesomium. If you can do it in Chrome browser, you can do it in Eve's IGB to most extent. -------------------------------------------

Again, I'm not asking what workarounds are possible, I do have a working IGB site for my corp, that's not the point. There are other websites that I do not have control over.
The OP was asking for features he would like added to the browser. The IGB is clearly not feature complete yet, therefore having a discussion outside of the test server threads and the wiki page (not everyone is on SiSi Dragonaire and you know we requested the same features on SiSi anyway) seemed like a good idea to me and I added my list.

I didn't try it out either before hand since I'm not currently building any IGB sites but did look in some so I understood what was coming. Also I'm not saying that many of the things that have been brought up shouldn't be fix/added but it did seem some of the posts were more like "whining" than "It's great what they did and I can't wait until they have X working". The second usually works better than the other. -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. Designer of Yapeal for Eve API.

I don't disagree with you. However, my experience is that user are much more insistent on features that used to be in the product and then are dropped. It is why changing codebases is so problematic for software developers. Those old enough to remember the MS-DOS - Windows transition, many vendors had problems. users may wonder how can something be "New and Improved" if it can't accomplish everything that the product it replaced did. I guess I see "there was a feature I was using and you dropped it" as being different and more compelling than "these are my new feature requests.", especially for things used by developers. Upward compatible is a Good Thing. |

The old sorry excuse for a browser sucked donkey balls and was completely useless.
Moondoggie is way better. There is no way I want the old browser back in any way shape or form. -- The future is black.

Once again for the slower readers, no one is saying roll back to the old browser.
Fix the new one add the functionality that was removed.

You are missing the point here, while lots of things can change in eve, your site cannot know what changes were made (in eve world) unless you are doing additional "costly checks" each and everytime someone logs in/or whenever you deem necesary ( lets take a simple example, a pilot going to another corp that belongs to another alliance and that alliance is not your "domain", you would not wish that "pilot" to be able to access your content ). I guess this is the "dangerous/security issue" part in using "cookies". But what the hell (if i remember correctly) wasn't supposed that moondogie don't cache anything "permanently" ?!
