I was wondering if anyone else all of a sudden started having CPU crashes with 2 accounts. I ran a copy of coretemp while running two windows like I always do. As soon as both accounts entered a mission and started fighting, the core temp jumped to over 100 degrees and crashed.

You aren't alone. Quite a few people are experiencing close to 90% +CPU useage with quad cores from just one client...including me. Larsonist > i still enjoyed the pew pew though, all the pos sh!t ive been doing lately had me feeling like smeagle without his precious. |

Edited by: Josh Silver on 08/12/2009 20:14:34 Confirming crazy CPU issues with the Dominion client.
Sitting idle in empty 0.0 system, no fleet, doing nothing at all exefile.exe eats 50-60% of my Phenom II constantly. What a waste of energy, and the fan noise is driving my crazy, too :(
(this is with medium graphics, all funky stuff turned off)
edit: docked in station it's back to the normal 2-4%, the same as idling in space used before Dominion.

Yep, there's been a jump in CPU usage. I haven't noticed it much since I run an i7 with a Noctua cooler (the one with two fans, can't remember the name) and as such I have excessive cooling available, but looking at the CPU usage, there's a clear increase after Dominion.

That's odd. Even at full load, your CPU should NEVER reach 100 C. That's when the thermal limit is reached, approxmiately, depending on what CPU you have. At such temps it automatically shuts off.
I suggest making sure the CPU fan/heatsink is on correctly and if it is, try to reapply thermal paste.

This is also true. Check your cooling. If you are getting CPU/heat related crashes, either cancel your overclocking or consider picking the thing apart and apply new thermal paste. In case it's all peachy already, consider buy a better cooler. Stock coolers are generally sufficient for everday usage, but are very noise and cannot handle the slightest overclocking. ---- The Demigodess with a Conscience - An EVE IC Blog Personal Killboard |

Right, freshly restarted computer: One client, barely registers on CPU. About 10% load on two cores and a few percent on two other cores. Other 4 threads are empty. (4x2 threads on an i7) So scratch my previous statement. ---- The Demigodess with a Conscience - An EVE IC Blog Personal Killboard |
