would giving up 20% of my combat drones be worth it to throw one of these out? just getting started on pvp and it seems if the ship cant target me, it cant shoot me. is my logic flawed here?

Edited by: Jhagiti Tyran on 11/12/2009 03:02:23 Not sure if a single tracking disruptor drone is really worth losing any drone ability at all, I am not sure of the drones stats but I would be fairly sure it wont be as effective as either ECM drones or damage drones even with a full flight of TD drones.

on that note would mixing a webber drone with a flight of light drones be worth it.

I'm going to assume you're serious ;), amarr ewar drones are useless. The best thing you can do on a thorax for ewar is to field 5 vespa ec-600's (very effective). However you shouldn't use only one ewar drone, you will always need all 5 to be effective.

Traditionally drone bays require you to commit the full load to one specific task. Either all DPS, all EWAR. The only mixture that works is if you say have a 50m3 drone bay you use 25m3 for a flight of EWAR and 25m3 for a flight of DPS. Trying to field 3 DPS and 2 EWAR is not a successful strategy.

recall that only ECM and neut drones are not susceptible to stacking nerfs __________________________________________________________

While that is strictly true you do still need 5 for them to be effective. A single 1.5 point ecm drone wont do much.

I can't believe I haven't thought of this before... o_o The views expressed by me in my forum posts are in no relation to my Corporation or my Alliance. I swear my cat made me type them. |

There are actually a few unusual EW drone setups that are viable. One I've tinkered with and had a degree of success with is 2x TD drones, 2x webber drones and a TP drone. With all three types being heavy, it has some interesting potential. Heavy TD drones are equal to a pair of unscripted TD's, so they are actually pretty effective but are stacking penalized so no sense in using more than two. The web drones are not overly powerful but at a combined amount of around -35% target velocity, it does make a difference. The TP drone was for lack of a better idea but it does have some impact on how well you hit the target. Once again, a TP drone is roughly equal to a standard TP, only problem is standard TP's are kinda worthless anyways.
This drone combination is somewhat effective on longer ranged gunboats like the armageddon that benefit from holding a target at range longer while also halving their gun range and tracking speed. I wouldn't say this setup is preferable to 5x heavy combat drones, it's just something outside the box I've been experimenting with. You can certainly use this type of a setup on a ship with just 3-4x heavies since the TP drone is pretty worthless and you could drop a web drone. -----------------------------------------------------

thanks for the replies, something to consider.

not to sound condiscending, but is this true in your experience, or generally true? giving up all my drone dps sounds bad, but splitting it seemed a decent option.
