Hi All,
I had a bit of an idea while reading a rant about how unfair PvP is..
Why not change insurance a bit in order to make it more "civilian" and new player friendly?
Change it so that...
You can only take insurance out on "civilian ships" like industrials and miners. I doubt that many armed forces insure their tanks, do they?
New players can have it on every ship type for a limited period, say.. 6 months? After that you're in the same boat as everyone else.
Many Industrialists and new players complain about getting ganked and how unfair PvP is for them. Many veterans actually want things to become harsher, for losses to be even more crippling. Well this wouldn't be such a major change for the veterans because T2+ insurance is already fairly meaningless, but I think its an interesting idea that might benefit both parties?
What do people think?
Brief change in topic:
A few changes to 0.0 would be nice too. Like get rid of local altogether, unless you're in a home or ally sov system and there's a module up. Or even pass it on to a gang link style ship mod? A dedicated intel ship?

Edited by: Pan Dora on 11/12/2009 19:34:30 Insurance of t2 pvp ship are not meaningless, insurance of 'civilian' ship that are.
EDIT:but suport to get ridding of local as intel gtherhing tool whille introcucing better active intel gatherhing tools. And not even local if you have sov, make people work for their intel.

Insuring industrials is pointless? I dont know tbh, I havent used or insured anything other than the odd hauler for quite a while.
If it is then perhaps its even better, new players can ease into the game and how it works but without the feelings of crushing defeat and depression at their early losses. A number of new players and industrialists quit for these reasons, they don't give EvE a fair chance because of an early loss that took them a month to acquire.
If it has potential to increase early player retention then imo its worth consideration.

Insurance needs some better changes:
1. removal of insurance for Concord kills (it stands to reason)
2. addition of player run insurance contracting system, possibly allowing corps to publish open contracts for multiple consumers to buy.
3. possibly a central killboard system, so players can control who sees the data, to allow insurance providers to request access to such data to assess the approprite terms and conditions.
Internet Spaceship Spreadsheets FTW!

And where I proposed removal of insurance of 'civilian ships'?
wait! Its you that proposed removal of insurance for everything else? Maybe I can blame you for the game losing player.
Or I can just accept that someone rage quiting because of the first ship loss, caused by his own mistake in not taking the proper mesures to secure himself, dont belong to a game world designed to be(not only to feel like) dark, cold and harsh.

Ore, we can leave something that isn't broken alone, and miners and haulers can start paying attention to their surroundings?
I made a pun \o/ A man with a Domi analyzes every problem in the terms of drones. |

I'm afraid that the changes wouldn't be subject to your epeen. Neither would they be player run, pretty much every player run entity in game is completely untrustworthy.
What ever you think about how observant industrialists and new players should be is irrelevant. The fact is that many new players just aren't that observant, they basically don't know how it the game works and certainly aren't going to be skilled enough to avoid a gank trap straight away. So this change at least softens the blow while they are learning.
Combined with other measures it may also help to encourage industrial players out to null sec.

Stop using comparisons to the real world to justify changes to the game mechanics
Insurance isn't in EVE to simulate real life it's in EVE because it's a mechanic that CCP wants and it works similar to a real world thing so they name it that way.

Why? Because you say so?
Its a suggestion thread - I'm not saying that they will, but if CCP did choose to change things then I agree its most likely to be for its in-game merits over any real-life relevance. But even from a fictional internet spaceships point of view it doesn't really make sense for any sensible business to offer insurance on a warship, there wouldn't be much profit in it.
Anyway, I'm not going to censor my threads just because you don't like it.
