Edited by: Moksha Miller on 15/12/2009 15:10:55 This would apply to Mining barges and Exumers only ( strip miners ). Before lasers could be used a box would pop up with 2 windows, in the top window would be 3 letter or numbers or combination of the 2, the lower window would be blank and is for to type copy the upper box content (Copy and paste would be disabled). No copy no lasers. This box would appear after another hour of mining. Same thing copy or no use lasers. A five minute period would be allowed for to copy box and continue mining. If this were implemented long term macro mining would be impossible.

not to mention that every time i try and mine a new roid i would hae to do that , which would get anoying after more than once having to do it , i posted an idea a while back with a modulation aspect where as you mining there is a little window with sort of mini game to keep the lasers in focus , as long as you did you got top quality ore , if you didnt the ore you got was more or less worthless

No. The only way to stop the hour count would be to change ship or log off. So switching roids or turning off laser would not not need another pop up box.

No, captcha is not a viable solution. (this sounds like a variation of it)
Macro miners will figure a way around it in a day or so, and all you will do is **** off every legitimate miner in the game.
If you suspect a macro miner, report them. There are facilities in game to handle this.

A serious macro programmer can break anything CCP can reasonably do to the interface. As has already been mentioned, if they add a series of checks to deter a bot, then it would be hell on any real players. That would just annoy everyone else rather than actually "solve" macro-mining.
Assuming this is even on CCP's priority list, the only real system-driven solution I can imagine would be for them to run data-collection on player behaviors. They could look for signs of botting (i.e. on for unusually long hours, extremely repetitive activity, non-responsive to reasonable prompts) and then flag individual characters as potential bots. With that info, they can then investigate each case and do something about it.

Welcome to text input to allow mining thread 164767.
There are tools out there that can beet catcha with over 70% chance per attempt. Also a lot of the macro'ed accounts have a person watching them (something like one person per 20 accounts) so even if you could make a solution that stops a macro the supervisor could be used to get round it.
Make to to hard for the supervisor to get round it and you annoy a lot of other players. Since mining takes a completely different mind set, the majority would not switch to other activites, they probably quit. I know I would if I still had time to mine on a regular bases. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

reporting wont do anything!
i have reported several, they are still here. i pod them, take the standings hit, and watch their pod wander around.
5 months on, the same macro miners are STILL mining in the same system.

Sorry but you are incorrect. CCP is doing something.
Perhaps the person you suspect is a macro miner, has been investigated and really isent. (He probably just dosen't want to talk to you)

I stopped reading when you said "isent", since that isn't how you spell isn't.

Might not be a bad idea. What you're describing is a capcha (if I'm spelling that right). It's the same thing websites use to make sure a computer program isn't trying to take advantage of their login (random letters and numbers the user has to copy into the confirmation box).
