Okay, wasnt sure where to post this but figured this place was best as its not totally EVE related...
Im currently running two 22" LCD monitors with native res of 1680x1050, Im considering upgrading one to a bigger and higher res, perhaps even HD but Im not sure if its worth it. I like having two of the exact same for asthetic reasons but I would also like to go extreme with a really crisp display...
So are they worth it, what res and size do most of you use?
Does increasing size mean an increase is res and would EVE (and other games of course) look a lot better by spending more, or should I just stick with my 2-22"?
Cheers!

I made the jump from 19" 1280x1024 (4:3) to 22" 1920x1080 (16:9). I really wanted a 1920x1200 monitor (16:10) but there were none between 17" laptops and 24" ones, and I got tired of waiting. I've never noticed any problems with running a 16:9 and every game I've thrown at it so far is quite happy playing in full screen at that resolution. Using DVI, it's a vivid, crisp and beautiful image.
Different people have different tastes, but I personally would sacrifice AA and shadow/texture quality before I sacrificed resolution in the name of performance (of course a GTX285 means sacrifices are a thing of the past ). Games look lovely at that res, though in fairness they weren't ugly before that.
Ultimately, no matter how powerful or pretty your PC or OS, the monitor is what you will be looking at for your time on the computer. I would always say it's worth getting the biggest and best monitor you can afford/have room for as it will give more enjoyment. More desktop real estate = better web browsing/word/photoshop/etc, nicer gaming and in the case of 1920x1080, full HD movies and Bleugh-Ray. I'd try and find a 16:10 (1920x1200) first, but if not, 16:9 is lovely too! -------------

If you have the extra money I have to recommend getting a nice LG 42" 120hz 2.7 ms 1080p tv. I have two of these hooked up to my computer and it is pure sex on multiple screens. Fullscreen eve is like having a window into space and I cannot explain in words how cod4 is sooooooo much better on a big screen. What sucks though is that I paid $1000 each for them just over a year ago when they first came out.

HD are 1280x720 and 1920x1080. Everything else is just random screen resolutions.
As for OP, get a 1920x1200 screen, you will not regret it.

Wow... that would be sweet but Im afraid a 42" wouldnt fit the area my computer is in without removing the second monitor, which I cant part with, one day though :)

Yeah I was pretty sure 1680x1050 wasnt HD, its pretty much standard res these days, so for a 1920x1200, whats the size on these are is there a fairly noticable difference?
Thanks for the input all!

1680x1050 is higher than 720p HD though!
30" 2560x1900. Do it.

Wait till you see the price and the fact every single one of them has a horrible response time and contrast ratio..

Cant reall do that either because there's a huge window behind my desk... but its an idea for the future...
I was afraid of this, I know the pirce would be high but response time (especially for sim and space games is crucial)

Well if you are willing to shell out the money and can fit in a 32" then let me reccomend this one. Mind that to get the 120hz you need an hdmi hookup as the pc input will only run the screen at 60hz which is the standard for computer lcd anyways. One last thing on using a big screen 1080p tv as a monitor is that you will need to increase your viewing distance slightly or you will notice the individual pixles.
For my 42" I had to go back a little over a foot from my normal hunched position that my previous small 22" monitor made me use to read the freakin text in eve at high resolutions. But the upside is now I can easily lean back in my comfy chair with a wireless kepoard and mouse and truely relax as I compute so I'll take the trade. For a smaller 32" you will probably only have to sit up staight in your chair to read stuff at max resolution.

TV in the 1930's-40's was called High Definition, so HD is a subjective term. Compared to anything lower, 1680x1050 is HD.

lol no. I have 2 22" monitors. Ones is a LG flatron with a native res of 1920 x 1080, the other is a hanspree with a native res of 1680 x 1050. Both are full HD 1080p capable. I can watch 1080p blurays on the 1680 x 1050 and its still in full HD.

Yes you can watch 1080P movies but its being down sized to fit. If you were to play the movie in full 1080p it would go off the edge of your screen.
The whole term HD is silly.
